My high school life has been filled with many ups and downs, whether they were social or academic. Even though my current high school was not my first choice, I never regretted attending Southside High School. "Since you have chosen it, then it is the best for you," said my parents.
Up until the junior year I did not realize my capabilities(能力) as a student. Being in the IB programme, I was told that my junior year would be the toughest in all the years of high school. With this "little" piece of information, I walked into my junior year, scared of my grades. As weeks went by, I started to believe that the junior year was not as hard as everyone had said, but I was wrong. My grades were rapidly declining(下降) and by the end of the first term I had had five Cs in seven of my classes! I could not believe it—I did not want to believe it. I tried my best to get better grades myself without any help from anyone, but my pride just made my grades worse. And I had to miss out on one of the most important speech and debate competitions that year. I was heartbroken. I realized that I could not survive my junior year on my own, so I had to get help fast.
Once I got a tutor, my grades went from Cs, Ds, and even some Fs, to As and Bs. I slowly started to gain my confidence back in all of my classes and even myself. By the time the third and fourth quarter came around, I had been on the honour roll twice, and I was receiving awards from speeches and debates competitions.
Southside has taught me to always keep my head up and never give up on myself no matter what life throws at me. I am proud to be a Southside Tiger.
24. What can we learn from the first paragraph
A. The writer always thought Southside High School was the best.
B. The writer's parents persuaded her into attending Southside High School.
C. The writer has met many challenges since she attended high school.
D. Life has become easier since the writer came to Southside High School.
25. How did the writer feel when she walked into her junior year
A. Excited. B. Worried. C. Curious. D. Uninterested.
26.Why was the writer's study worse and worse
A. She didn't work hard enough. B. No one would like to help her.
C. She missed many important speeches. D. She didn't ask others for help because of her pride.
27.What important lesson has the writer learnt at Southside High School
A. Students should better learn about life. B. Students should face challenges bravely.
C. Students should be proud of their schools. D. Students should be careful in choosing schools.
C
School is, waking up early in the morning, whether it is hot or cold, putting on the school uniform and rushing to the bus stop to catch the school bus and getting used to the words "Hurry up! You will be late!" You reach school and again the same words "Hurry up!" do not let you rest in peace.
Throughout the day, it is a mad rush. One period gets over, the other starts and you are ready for the second subject. When you forget to do your homework, you try to sit at the back and pretend to be looking for something on the floor or in your bag. You are lucky if you are not seen and it is bad luck if you get caught. If you are not lucky, be ready for a good scolding during break or after school. If you are lucky and your teacher is in a good mood, you may be left with a warning.
However, school is not so dull all the time; the games, library periods and break are welcome time. When you can relax, joke and have fun with your friends. There are some teachers, too, who can make school very exciting. For example, Mr. Taneja, has a typical style of talking, making us always hooked on the playground.
School can be fun, real fun, when picnics and field trips are organized. We wait for them eagerly and keep on requesting our class teacher to organize one for us. Debates, quizzes, cultural programs also add luster to an otherwise dull school life. Fun increases after real hard work and you tend to enjoy more than those who had been lazy and have wasted their time. I think this period of your life is the most wonderful period——full of dreams and hope.
28. How is the school life described by the author in the passage
A. Dull and stressful. B. Stressful but interesting. C. Strict and fearful. D. Annoying but funny.
29. What can we conclude according to the second paragraph
A. Some students hope to get away with their fault.
B. Teachers should be more patient to their students.
C. Some students dislike finishing their homework.
D. Teachers should reduce the amount of homework.
30. Which subject does Mr. Taneja teach at school
A. Physics. B. Language. C. Chemistry. D. Physical Education.
31. What does the underlined word "luster" mean in the passage
A. Difficulty. B. Value. C. Pleasure. D. Trouble.
D
A new study, conducted by British company Mindlab International, has found that listening to music at work increases accuracy and speed, The Telegraph reported. Perhaps, some parents disagree with this idea, saying, “Switch off the music and concentrate!” Well, if that’s the case with your parents, you might now be able to convince them that you have science on your side.
The company gave 26 participants a series of different tasks for five days in a row, including spell checking, mathematical word problems, data entry, and abstract reasoning. The participants completed these tasks while listening to music or no music at all.
The results showed that while music was playing, 88% of participants produced their most accurate test results and 81% completed their fastest work. David Lewis, chairman of Mindlab International, told The Telegraph, “Music is a very powerful management tool if you want to increase not only the efficiency of your workforce but also their emotional state... they are going to become more positive about the work.”
However, you may have a list of your favorite songs, but not all kinds of music match all homework. For maths or other subjects involving numbers or attention to detail, you should listen to classical music, the study found. In the study, pop music enabled participants to complete their tasks 58% faster than when listening to no music at all. If you’re reviewing your English writing, pop music is the best choice, as it is the best kind for spell checking. It cut mistakes by 14%, compared to listening to no music. After finishing your homework, do you often take time to check your answers Maybe some dance music is suitable for you.
32. Which of the following can be the best title for the passage
A. Music Helps Us to Learn B. We Cannot Live Without Music
C. Different Music, Different Lives D. Music in the Classroom
33. What did the participants have to do in the study
A. Persuade their parents to listen to music.
B. Listen to the same music together.
C. Try their best to choose the most suitable music.
D. Finish tasks with music or without music at all.
34. What does the underlined word “they” refer to in Paragraph 3
A. Tools. B. Results. C. Tests. D. Participants.
35. When you review your English writing, what kind of music is the best choice
A. Classical music. B. Dance music. C. Pop music. D. Rock music.

第一节 应用文写作
Hello,everyone,
I’m honored to stand here to tell you something about my school life in the past two weeks. Our school is very beautiful. There’s advanced equipment in the classroom and it helps our teachers make their classes lively and interesting. My classmates are so excellent and diligent that I have to work extremely hard to keep up with them. Fortunately, my teachers and classmates are all friendly and enthusiastic. I have already made several new friends here.
However, the food in the cafeteria is very poor and I hope it can get improved. Besides, we have much homework every day. How I wish we could have more time for physical exercise!
