A
There is so much to see and do on the Disney Dream. During my 2-day cruise(乘船游览) I tried to experience as much as I could. Here are some of my favourite things about the Disney Dream.
AquaDuck
The first water coaster at sea will not disappoint you! The coaster spans(横跨) 765 feet, giving you a bird’s-eye view of the decks(甲板) below. At one point, the ride takes you 12 feet over the side of the ship.
Oceaneer Club & Oceaneer Lab
I was totally blown away by the childcare on the Disney Dream. The best part is the Oceaneer Club and Oceaneer Lab for kids aged 3-10. Once inside, kids are free to run from club to club. There are games, activities and crafts(手工) that will keep your children entertained for hours.
Pink at The District
There are five places at The District, but my favourite was Pink—the champagne bar. This place is the perfect spot for an after-dinner drink with friends.
Nemo’s Reef
One of my biggest disappointments at other cruise ships is the lack of water play for young kids. Every ship usually has a pool and water slide, but they are often overcrowded. Nemo’s Reef is a covered water play area with no standing water. Even my six-year-old son had a good time!
“Disney’s Believe” Stage Show
Entertainment on cruise ships can be not very good, but not on the Disney Dream. What’s new on the Disney Dream is “Disney’s Believe”—a musical show featuring your favourite Disney characters.
If you’re on the Disney Dream next time, don’t miss them. Have fun!

A. People loving travelling.
B. People loving watching birds.
C. People wanting an exciting ride.
D. People wanting to run on the decks.
22. Where would one go to have a drink with friends
A. AquaDuck.
B. Pink at The District.
C. Nemo’s Reef.
D. Oceaneer Club & Oceaneer Lab.
23. Why did the author think highly of Nemo’s Reef
A. It’s not open to adults.
B. It has standing water.
C. It has water play for kids.
D. It has many Disney characters.
B
I picked up my two best friends and we were off on a road trip. I had just returned to America from a year abroad in China. So, naturally I wanted to take a trip to Canada.
Montreal, the second largest city in Canada, is a four-hour drive from my home in New Hampshire. We felt a thrill as we crossed the border into Canada. It was the first time I had ever driven across an international border. We turned on the radio to try and find some Canadian stations.
After dropping off our bags at our hotel, we were immediately walking down the famous St Catherine Street. While we walked, two things surprised us: how cold it was and how well everyone dressed. The streets of Montreal are like a fashion show. Both men and women look like they stepped out of the pages of a magazine.
All of that fashion has to keep them warm since Montreal is so cold. Last year it broke the record for the most snowfall in North America. To hide from the cold we went into a small diner because we wanted to order Poutine, a very popular snack in Montreal. It is French fries covered in cheese and brown gravy(肉汁). It is delicious.
However, we had a hard time ordering the dish since the official language of Montreal is French. It is actually the fifth largest French-speaking city in the world. But since the rest of Canada speak English, plenty of people were there to help.
We spent the rest of the weekend going to many historic sites and monuments in Montreal. But at night we’d head to the very modern dance clubs and bars. Montreal is a city that sits between the past and the future and the traveller can choose whichever direction he wants to go.
24. How do you understand the underlined sentence in paragraph 3
A. The men and women are really the fashion models of a magazine.
B. The portraits of the men and women are printed in the magazine.
C. They are so well dressed that they look like models in a magazine.
D. The men and women like to copy characters in magazines.
25. Which of the following can NOT be concluded from paragraphs 3 and 4
A. The author and his friends couldn’t wait to explore the city.
B. The author wasn’t used to the weather of Montreal.
C. The citizens from Montreal care much about what they wear.
D. Montreal often holds fashion shows.
26. What can we infer from the passage
A. The author often went to China for a visit.
B. The people they met in the diner were kind and helpful.
C. All the people in the diner were locals.
D. The author went to Montreal on business.
27. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage
A. The author listened to Canadian radio programmes and chose their first stop as advised.
B. The author took a trip to Montreal—the third largest city in Canada.
C. Montreal broke the record for the most snowfall in the world last year.
D. Montreal is a city which is both traditional and modern.
C
When you come to London for a trip, it’s best to plan a day out so as to maximise(最大化) the number of things you can see. Time permitting, we can offer advice by email if there’s anything you particularly want to see.
If you are only in London for a day, a weekend or a week, use our SHORT STAY pages where we show you how to fill as much into your days as possible.
The best season to come is late summer or autumn—recently we have been having Indian summers (秋季的小阳春天气) from mid-September to the end of October with clear blue skies and 20 degree temperatures. Finally the weather breaks as the storm fronts move in off the Atlantic, then clears up for Christmas. February to April can be terrible, and the weather is very unpredictable. Ask the Meteorological office here for facts and figures but they are so often wrong.
When it’s raining there are plenty of museums and galleries to visit, and the tube(地铁) system is generally very good outside of rush hour.
It’s best for you to be near a tube station when choosing a hotel, because buses can be slow and unreliable(不可靠的) and taxis are expensive. The yellow circle line on the tube map marks the division (分界线) between central and not-so-central London. Outside of that area your transport bill will rise. The best restaurants are in Islington and the southwest of London which is where the life is.
28. The Meteorological office in the third paragraph is a place where .
A. people can know what London is like
B. people can get information about tourism
C. people can know what the weather is like
D. people can get information about transportation
29. When considering where to live, visitors need to pay more attention to in London.
A. the traffic
B. the living conditions
C. the food
D. the price
30. Which of the following statements is NOT true
A. There are many museums and galleries in London.
B. The tube system in London is very good at any time.
C. One can get more information by sending email.
D. Autumn is the best season for visiting London.
31. The passage is mainly written for those who .
A. are going to serve as tour guides
B. are planning to live in London
C. are going to visit London
D. are going to work in London
D
American cities are similar to other cities around the world. In every country, cities reflect the values of the culture. American cities are changing, just as American society is changing.
After World WarⅡ, the population of most large American cities decreased; however, the population in many Sun Belt cities increased. Los Angeles and Houston are cities where population shifts(转移) to and from the city reflect the changing values of American society. In the late 1940s and early 1950s, city residents (居民) became wealthier. They had more children so they needed more space. They moved out of their apartments in the city to buy their own homes. They bought houses in the suburbs(郊区).
Now things are changing. Many, unlike their forefathers, want to live in the cities. They continue to move to Sun Belt cities and older ones of the Northeast and Midwest. Many young professionals are moving back into the city. They prefer the city to the suburbs because their jobs are there; or they just enjoy the excitement and possibilities that the city offers.
This population shift is bringing problems as well as benefits. Countless poor people must leave their apartments in the city because the owners want to sell the buildings or make apartments for sale instead of for rent. In the 1950s, many poor people did not have enough money to move to the suburbs; now many of these people do not have enough money to stay in the cities.
Only a few years ago, people thought that the older American cities were dying. Some city residents now see a bright, new future. Others see only problems and conflicts. One thing is sure:many dying cities are alive again.
32. What does the author think of cities all over the world
A. They are alive.
B. They are hopeless.
C. They are similar.
D. They are different.
33. Why did American city residents want to live in the suburbs after World War Ⅱ
A. Because older American cities were dying.
B. Because they were richer and needed more space.
C. Because cities contained the worst parts of society.
D. Because they could hardly afford to live in the city.
34. According to paragraph 4, a great many poor people in American cities .
A. are faced with housing problems
B. are forced to move to the suburbs
C. want to sell their buildings
D. need more money for daily expenses
35. What can we conclude from the passage
A. American cities are changing for the worse.
B. People have different views on American cities.
C. Many people are now moving from American cities.
D. The population is decreasing in older American cities.

What happens when you want to go from one place to another, but there’s water in the way That’s the problem people faced for hundreds of years in the area that is now New York City. In the city, there is a natural canal(运河) called the Narrows, separating Brooklyn on one side from Staten Island on the other.
But the Narrows isn’t really so narrow. The water is almost a mile wide, and it’s more than 100 feet deep. 36 When they wanted to talk to each other, they climbed into their boats and sailed across.
By the late 1800s, circumstances had changed dramatically. Population growth meant there were now many people needing to travel between Brooklyn and Staten Island for work. 37
Between 1888 and 1920 there were two major efforts to build a train tunnel to connect the areas. 38 Proposals to build a connecting bridge made during the 1910s also ended in failure due to opposition from the US Navy.
Finally, after World War Ⅱ, there were so many people living in New York City that leaders decided Brooklyn and Staten Island needed a direct connection. Since tunnels were too expensive, they decided to build a bridge. The design selected had two separate roadways stacked(叠放) on top of each other. 39 Construction, which took five years, was completed in 1964 and cost $320 million. Today about 190,000 cars and trucks cross the bridge every day.
40 But in the case of the Narrows, figuring out a good solution took hundreds of years.
A. Sometimes getting from one place to another is very easy.
B. Both were quickly abandoned however due to the high costs involved.
C. Neither road was large enough to satisfy the existing transport demands.
D. It was anticipated that the new train system would help the areas grow even faster.
E. Taking a boat every time was very slow, expensive and, in bad weather, unreliable.
F. Both would hang in the air from thick steel cables, supported by two giant steel towers.
G. For a long time that wasn’t a problem, because only a few people lived in Brooklyn and Staten Island.

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
“Nothing will be the same again,” Ally whispered. She sank slowly into her father’s favourite chair and stared at the small American flag on his desk. It was the flag which Chief Russell had given to her after the funeral last summer, when he hugged her and told her how proud the Police Department was of her dad’s work for them. His tears had warmed Ally’s cheeks. Her own tears were still frozen inside her heart.
Ally looked at her father’s picture on the bookcase. Dad was sitting in the middle of a stream, wet through but smiling proudly. “I miss you, Dad,” she said softly. By this time last year she had already taken dozens of pictures. Ever since she could remember, she and dad had been a team, searching the woods behind the house each weekend for a look at the special wood warbler(莺).
Ally reached for the first photo album she and dad had put together. On the cover a tiny orange bird with blue-grey wings and sharp black eyes peered out of the photo, which her father had clipped(剪下) from a local newspaper. Ally smiled, remembering the excited look on his face when he first showed her the pretty bird. “Ally, I bet if we search real hard, we’ll see this little guy together some day.”
They’d never spotted the warbler, but her father had an amazing way of making each outing special. Staying with dad, Ally felt comfortable. “If only I could get that good feeling back,” she thought, sighing.
Staring at the bird, suddenly, she knew exactly what she had to do. Grabbing(抓住) the little flag, she placed her camera around her neck and hurried outside. Ally stuck the flag among the flowers in the garden. “Please let me see the warbler,” she said to herself. She gave her worried mum a kiss and then set off into the woods.

第二节(满分25分)
Familiar smells of the earth rose up to greet her.“Some things never change,” Ally thought. Quickening her pace, she hurried to the rock by the stream where she and her father used to sit and eat lunch. She sat on it, with her face towards the sun. Overhead the sky was filled with birds busily diving to gather dried grass to place in their nests. Their sweet songs echoed throughout the woods. Ally felt comfortable. She could almost hear her father’s laughter in the gentle breeze as she listened to the sweet song of the special bird. All too soon, the sun disappeared behind thick gray clouds.
Determined to start out again the next morning, she was about to head home when ringing birdsong floated down to her. It was prettier than any she had heard before. An excited feeling bubbled up inside Ally as she searched the sky. A flash of orange dashed down and rested on a nearby branch. For a moment Ally couldn’t believe her eyes, but it was true. The tiny wood warbler just sat there, looking around, as if it was waiting for something. Ally blinked back tears. “Thanks, Dad,” she whispered, slowly lifting her camera and taking careful aim. “Things will be different without you. I’ll always miss our time together, but I feel better now.”
