Are you the only child in your family Have you heard of the two-child policy and the three-child policy Everyone knows the one-child policy, which is a population control method in our country. Chinese government wanted to control the increasing population at that time. Many Chinese couples understood that and followed this policy for nearly 40 years. However, as time goes by, some problems appear in our society. China has a population of more than 1.4 billion, but its number of people in employment is only a little larger than 0.8 billion. China is now getting into an aging (老龄化的) society. There will be more old people in the following years. But the society will be short of doctors and nurses to take care of them. The population of China will become smaller and smaller if the one-child policy continues. It’s the main reason that leads to the two problems above.
That’s why Chinese government began the two-child policy on 1st January, 2016 and the three-child policy on 31st May, 2021, which allows a couple to have more than one child. The government hopes these can help solve the social problems gradually (逐渐地). These policies will help offer enough workers in the future. It is reported that there will be around 2.5 million newly-born babies each year.

Lin Xiao, 21, a student at Guangzhou University, has a big family: her parents, a younger brother and two younger sisters. Lin took her role as the “big sister” seriously. When her first sister was born, Lin took turns with her mum holding the baby late into the night. “I almost did everything that was supposed to be a parent’s job, but I felt proud of myself,” she said. Not all of Lin’s classmates shared her experiences because of the family planning policy (计划生育政策), a law that was carried out in China about forty years ago. But the situation is changing. A policy began on 1st January, 2016 said all couples can have two children. And on 31st May, 2021, the three-child policy is carried out, allowing a couple to have three children. These policies are expected to help raise the population of China. China has been facing an aging population and labor shortages (劳动力短缺) because of the low birth rate. These two policies may also be the gifts for the current families. Researchers found that growing up with a brother or sister can have good influence on one’s mental heath (心理健康). That’s because brothers and sisters give kids something that parents don’t. And having a brother or a sister protects teenagers against loneliness, fear and so on. Liu Fang, 20, from Shenzhen University, has a sister 2 years younger than her. When her sister disagreed with parents over choosing a college major, she helped her to communicate with parents. “If necessary, I would always have her back,” said Liu. The best part of having a sister is that you have a partner, friend and supporter throughout your life.” “But children with brothers or sisters also have to understand and look after each other”, said Laura.

五、读写综合
A 46.There are four / 4 children in Lin Xiao’s family./ Four / 4.
47.China started the three-child policy on 31st May, 2021. / On 31st May, 2021.

49.Liu Fang’s sister / She is eighteen / 18 years old. / Eighteen / 18.
50.Liu Fang / She helped her sister to communicate with parents.
B However, since it was carried out, people have found more disadvantages than advantages. Nowadays, the three-child policy is come up with, allowing every couple to have three children. On the one hand, it can solve the problem of an aging population in China. On the other hand, three children in a family can share their responsibilities to take care of the old.
In my opinion, the three-child policy has its own advantages and disadvantages. More children mean more fun. Kids will not feel lonely with sisters or brothers around. However, raising three children will cost much money and the parents have to spend more time on looking after the newly-born child.
