Wild animals are our friends, but many of them are getting fewer and fewer. We should try to protect them.
The four animals below are now in danger.
Tibetan Antelopes(藏羚羊) Tibetan antelopes mainly feed on grass. They are usually found in groups of about 20. People killed them for their warm and soft wool(羊毛) to make expensive clothes. The number of them is smaller and smaller year by year. There are less than 75,000 Tibetan antelopes left in the world, down from a million 50 years ago.
Golden Monkeys Golden monkeys have golden-orange fur. They move around in the daytime, usually in groups of as many as 100 to 200 heads, or 20 to 30 heads. They feed on fruit and young leaves of bamboo. But people are destroying (毁坏) the environment where they live. Trees and bamboo are disappearing, so golden monkeys have less and less to eat.
Elephants Elephants are bigger than any other animal on land. They have long trunks (象鼻) and tusks (长牙). They have poor eyesight (视力) but very good hearing and smell. Elephants are very friendly towards each other and towards their neighbours. They usually live in a group for many years. Now, there are very few elephants in the world. The number of them is becoming smaller and smaller because their living areas are used for farming. Also, people hunt them for their tusks.
Wolves Wolves are not very big. They have very good eyesight, hearing and smell. Wolves are friendly to each other and seldom attack people. They do not kill people for fun. Wolves are in danger too. They are losing their living areas because people cut down forests. Soon they will have no home or food.

In nature, you may see many insects and animals of different colours.Have you ever wondered why
Locusts are super delicious food for birds, but it is not always an easy job for birds to catch them.It is neither because locusts are good jumpers or runners nor because they are smarter than their enemies. The reason is that the colours of locusts change with the colours of crops(庄稼).When crops are young, locusts look green. But when autumn comes, locusts change to the yellow and brown colour as crops do.
Brown bears, tigers and other animals move quietly through forests. They can’t be seen easily by their enemies. This is because they have colours similar to the trees. For the same reason, polar bears that live on a land of snow and ice are white.Butterflies and bees living among the flowers are colourful like flowers.Soil insects are mostly dark-coloured and they live under the soil(土壤)in a dark and wet environment. However, insects with colours different from plants can easily be found and eaten by others. So in order to survive, they have to hide themselves in the daytime and appear only at night.
Have you ever noticed some even stranger acts The cuttlefish in the sea can send out some very black ink when it faces danger. As the ink spreads over, its enemies will find themselves suddenly in a dark world. At the same time the ink fish immediately swims away. That is how it keeps itself safe though it is not strong at all.

Elephants are the biggest land animals. They are grey and have no hair. Their skin is thick (厚的). They come from Africa and Asia, but we can also find them in other countries. African elephants have very big ears while Asian elephants have small ears. Elephants have a very long nose and some have two long white teeth. Elephants eat a lot of food, but they don’t eat meat. They eat leaves, grass and fruit. They eat about 140 kilos of food a day. A big elephant is over 3.5 metres tall and weighs (重) 6,000 kilos. Elephants love water and they are good at swimming. Nowadays elephants are in danger. They have less and less land to live on, because people are taking away their land and forests. People cut down many trees, so elephants are losing their homes. People also kill elephants for their long teeth. Today there are only about 3,000 elephants (over 100,000 before) in the wild. There will not be any elephants if we don’t protect them. If we don’t help these wild animals, they will die out (灭绝) soon. So we should help them. In order to protect elephants, we must save the trees and not buy things made of ivory(象牙).
