I have dreamt of taking a trip to Hawaii since I graduated, but the best thing always needs waiting. I took a trip with my friends to Haleakala National Park, which lies in Hawaii.
When we arrived at Haleakala National Park, we were advised to watch the early morning sunrise. I was lost in the sightseeing that afternoon, so I could hardly wait to see the sunrise. In the next morning, we all got out of bed very early and got to the seaside at 3 o’clock. In the first half an hour, we imagined how wonderful it would be when the first light came out through the thick clouds and how soft it would be when the light touched our skin, so we waited and waited. However, another half an hour later, I gradually lost my patience since there was nothing but the chilly darkness, and I felt that I was frozen to death. But my friends were still extremely cheerful.
Nearly another one hour later, “Amazing!” Judy burst out and we all shouted to welcome the light, which was really unbelievable. Until today, I dare say that it is the most impressive sunrise in my life. However, waiting in the morning darkness is also one memory I cannot wipe from my mind forever.
Waiting sometimes is really a hard thing for most of us as it needs patience and strong-willed determination, but what about the result after that It might turn out to be pleasing, unbelievable and satisfying. So, it is really worthwhile to wait for the best.

Earthquake rescue robots have experienced their final tests in Beijing. Their designers say with these robots, rescuers will be able to save lives during an earthquake.
This robot looking like a helicopter is called the detector-bot. It’s about 4 meters long, and it took about 4 years to develop the model. Its main functions (作用) are to collect information from the air, and send goods of up to 30 kilos, to people trapped by an earthquake.
This robot has a high definition 360 degree panoramic (全景) camera. It can work day and night and will also be able to send the latest pictures from the quake area.
Dr. Qi Juntong, Chinese Academy of Science, said, “The most important feature of this robot is that it doesn’t need a distant control. We just set the destination (目的地) information on it, and then it takes off, and lands by itself. It flies as high as 3,000 meters, and as fast as 100 kilometers per hour.”
This robot has a different function — it can change as the environment changes. Its main job is to search for any signs of life in places where human rescuers are unable to go.
As well as a detector (探测器) that finds victims and detects poisonous gas, a camera is placed in the 40 centimeter long robot, which can work in the dark.
Another use for the rescuers is the supply part, with its 10 meter long pipe. People who are trapped in the ruins, will be able to get supplies including oxygen and liquids.
Experts have said that the robots will enter production, and serve as part of the national earth-quake rescue team as soon as next year.
28. According to the passage, this robot________.
A. is carried by the helicopter B. weighs about 30 kilos
C. is a machine with a length of 10 meters D. hasn’t been put into production so far
29. The underlined word “which” in paragraph 6 refers to________.
A. a camera B. a robot C. a rescuer D. a detector
30. Which of the following is true of the robot
A. It is designed to prevent the earthquake.
B. It is unable to send goods.
C. It can take and send pictures even in the dark.
D. It can be used to take in poisonous gas.
31. The text is mainly about _____________.
A. what the robot looks like B. an introduction to the robot
C. how the robot is made D. information about earthquakes

Sometimes life can seem challenging (挑战的) and we usually get the feeling of “the grass on the other side is always greener”! We usually feel upset with the troubles that life throws at us.
The best thing to do at that point of time is to close our eyes and start counting of all the blessings in life that God has given us.
If we think deeply, our life is full of blessings that we hardly recognize. Listening to the singing of birds early in the morning, we realize that there are many people who spend their life in a world that is silent while many others spend their lives in a world that is dark and may have never seen a rainbow or the setting sun.
When you go out for a drive, pull down the window and look at the poor beggar standing under the hot sun, begging for filling his hungry stomach. We get three meals a day without realizing its importance. Isn’t that a blessing
Whenever you are sad, look at the eyes of your parents and family filled with love and concern for you. There are many people who have never experienced the love of a family. Isn’t that a blessing
As Mother Teresa once said, “We don’t need to do great things. We need to do small things with great love”.
The key to a happy life is when we consider others problems to be our own and try to help them. When we love people without any expectations and help them, our heart is filled with a sense of happiness and peace seeing the smile on their face.
So the next time whenever life knocks you down, close your eyes and…start counting!
32. What does the author intend to tell us
A. True happiness lies in achieving wealth.
B. Blessings should be treasured in our life.
C. The singing of birds can make us happy.
D. Love from our family gives us courage to face life.
33. The underlined part “the grass on the other side is always greener” in paragraph 1 probably means that__________.
A. however happy we are, we never seem to be satisfied
B. though we are rich, we are poor in mind
C. we can have a better life if we work harder
D. there exists a greener grass on the other side
34. What can be learned from the text
A. We have already known that life is filled with blessings.
B. It is a blessing to have three meals a day.
C. It’s natural to see a rainbow or the setting sun in life.
D. Mother Teresa calls on us to do great things in life.
35. What would be the best title for the text
A. Troubles in Life B. Secrets of Life
C. A Sense of Happiness D. Count Your Blessings

第二节 (满分 15 分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
We have all heard the expression: “Remember to stop and smell the roses.” But, how often do we really take time out of our busy fast-paced lives to notice the world around us I have reflected back on one situation many times since it happened and have learned several powerful lessons from it.
I am as guilty as anyone of ignoring the world around in this manner, especially when I am driving on California’s overcrowded streets. A short time ago, however, I witnessed an event that showed me how being wrapped up in my own little world has kept me from being fully aware of the bigger world picture around me.
I was driving to a business appointment and, as usual, I was planning in my mind what I was going to say. I came to a very busy crossroads where the stoplight had just turned red. “All right,” I thought to myself, “I can beat the next light if I race ahead of the pack.” My mind and car were in auto pilot, ready to go when suddenly my absent-minded state was broken by an unforgettable sight.
A young couple, both blind, was walking arm-in-arm across this busy crossroads with cars whizzing by in every direction. The man was holding the hand of a little boy, while the woman was holding something tightly in her hands that sling to her chest, obviously carrying a child. Each of them had a white walking stick extended, searching for clues to navigate them across the crossroads.
Initially I was moved. They were overcoming what I felt was one of the most feared handicaps — blindness. “Wouldn’t it be terrible to be blind ” I thought. Without realizing the danger they were in, they were walking right the path of oncoming cars. I was frightened for them because I didn’t know if the other drivers understood what was happening.
However, as I watched from the front line of traffic, I saw a miracle unfold before my eyes.
Every car in every direction did the same thing. They stopped at the same time. Everything seemed to freeze. Amazed, I looked at the cars around me, and noticed that everyone’s attention was fixed on the blind couple while no one got mad and none was shouting and yelling.
注意:
1. 续写的词数应为80左右。
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Never noticing something different, the couple adjusted their route as they followed the coaching.
