I’m a strong believer that learning different languages makes you look incredibly good when
you’re in a foreign country and can understand and speak the language. The list below is 4 apps
that will help you learn a foreign language! You can download them for free.
Babbel – Learn Languages
Babbel is an excellent language tool to help you progress step by step with learning a new
language. It helps you learn grammar along the way as you work your way through the tasks and
assignments. The downside is that for full access to everything you need to pay a monthly
subscription, but this will still be cheaper than taking physical lessons with a tutor!
Duolingo: Learn Languages Free
The app has many languages to choose from and will work through the basics all the way to
advanced words and sentences. It’s all completely free too! It’s incredibly well designed, looks
great and will help you learn, remember and progress with just a little bit of time every day.
Tandem: Language Exchange
Rather than have you work through tasks and memorize different things, the app lets you match
with people who share your interests but speak the language you want to learn. You can then have
text, voice and video conversations with people who want to learn your native language, and in
return you learn theirs, all by simply communicating with each other. It’s a great way to learn with
only $1 a day.
高一英语 第 3页 (共 10页)

This app is perfect if you want to learn English. There are all sorts of audio(声音的) and visual
learning aids. You’ll find yourself working through interactive tests and learning tools for
vocabulary and dialogue.

A.Babbel – Learn Languages B.Duolingo: Learn Languages Free
C.Tandem: Language Exchange D.Learn English – busuu
22.What is Duolingo different from the other three apps
A.It is completely free to use. B.It is specially for English learning.
C.It is unsuitable for beginners. D.It is the most effective app.
23.What do the apps have in common
A.They cover all languages. B.They are free to download.
C.They contain many tests. D.They focus on grammar.
B
In a movie, a woman reads a storybook to her friend’s daughter. As they approach the last page,
she reads, “...and Cinderella and the prince lived happily together ever after.” She closes the book
and looks at the young girl, adding, “You know, things don’t always happen like this in real life. I
just think you should know that now.”
We were all raised on fairy tales with glass slippers, brave princes and magic! It didn’t take too
long to realize that stories like that aren’t necessarily true. In the life, you learned that glass slippers
are really uncomfortable, no prince is perfect and magic doesn’t always work.
So what do you do when the way you planned things is not the way they turned out
Know that parts of your fairy tale have already been written, and sadly, there’s not a whole lot
you can do about those first few chapters. You didn’t get the best start. Your trust was unexpectedly
betrayed.(背叛) You didn’t get the job. Whatever falls and failures that happened in your past are
just that in your past. There’s still more to the story.
While your life has a lot of contributors(投稿者), you are the editor-in-chief. You take what’s
there and create the masterpiece. All the good pages and the bad can come together to make a
beautiful adventure.
When you find yourself wishing your life was more like the fairy tales, remember that in some
ways it already is. There will be dragons, bad witches, great romances, winding roads and friends
to help you along the way. So, keep rewriting your story every day that you’re alive. Whether it’s a
comedy, tragedy or a little of both, the pen is in your hand. How it all ends is up to you.

A good teacher is more than just someone who can pass on knowledge. As the Times
Education Supplement has found, the qualities that make a great educator are being intelligent,
concerned and maverick(标新立异的).
Earlier this year, the UK magazine did a survey of 1,200 educators across the globe to find
education's favorite 50 fictional(虚构的) teachers. As it turned out, Albus Dumbledore,
headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the Harry Potter series, finished at
the top of the poll.
The secret to Dumbledore's greatness came from the fact that he "was never proud or vain(自
负的 ); he could find something to value in anyone, however unimportant they seemed." Elphias
Doge, a Ministry of Magic jurist in Harry Potter, said of the professor after his death. He added
that there was "no doubt that he was the most inspiring and the best loved of all Hogwarts
headmasters."
Another beloved teacher who made the list is John Keating in the film Dead Poets Society,
who inspired students through poetry. "Medicine, law, business, engineering, these are necessary to
sustain(维持 ) life," he told students. "But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay
alive for." He also encouraged his students to look at things differently when they thought they
knew something. "Even though it may seem silly, or wrong, you must try," he advised.
As Mark Goldberg, the author of Keep Good Teachers, said, the key characteristics of these
great fictional teachers are qualities of "willingness to put in the necessary time, a love for the age
group they teach, and an in-depth wisdom."

In ancient Egypt, a shopkeeper discovered that he could attract customers to his shop simply
by making changes to its environment. Modern businesses have been following his lead, with more
tactics(策略).
One tactic involves where to display the goods. For example, stores place fruits and vegetables
in the first section. They know that customers who buy the healthy food first will feel happy so that
they will buy more junk food(垃圾食品) later in their trip. In department stores, section is
generally next to the women’s cosmetics(化妆品) section:while the shop assistant is going back to
find the right size shoe, bored customers are likely to wander over and find some cosmetics they
might want to try later.
Besides, businesses seek to appeal to customers’ senses. Stores notice that the smell of baked
goods encourages shopping, so they make their own bread each morning and then fan the bread
smell into the store throughout the day. Music sells goods, too. Researchers in Britain found that
when French music was played, sales of French wines went up.
When it comes to the selling of houses, businesses also use highly rewarding tactics. They find
that customers make decisions in the first few seconds upon walking in the door, and turn it into a
business opportunity. A California builder designed the structure of its houses smartly. When
entering the house, the customer would see the Pacific Ocean through the windows, and then the
高一英语 第 6页 (共 10页)
pool through an open stairway leading to the lower level. The instant view of water on both levels
helped sell these $10 million houses.
32.Why do stores usually display fruits and vegetables in the first section
A.To help sell junk food. B. To show they are high quality foods.
C. To save customers times. D. To sell them at discount prices.
33.According to Paragraph 3, which of the following encourages customers to buy
A. Opening the store early in the morning.
B. Displaying British wines next to French ones.
C. Inviting customers to play music.
D. Filling the store with the smell of fresh bread.
34.What is the California builder’s story intended to prove
A. The house structure is a key factor customers consider.
B. The more costly the house is, the better it sells.
C. An ocean view is much to the customers’ taste.
D. A good first impression increases sales.
35.What is the main purpose of the passage
A. To report researches on customer behavior.
B. To introduce how businesses have grown from the past.
C. To explain how businesses turn people into their customers.
D. To show dishonest business practices.

书面表达参考范文:
Dear Michael,
How is everything going I’m glad to know that you are interested in Chinese culture and that
you want to know something about my family spirits.
Actually, many good family spirits have been passed down from generation to generation in
my family. My grandparents and parents always lay emphasis on the importance of honesty,
bravery, perseverance and diligence and most importantly, they have set good examples to me. My
family spirits have a profound influence on me, and thus I always follow what they have taught me.
For example, be friendly to others and offer a helping hand when others are in need. Besides, I am
all the time positive and never stop chasing my goal whenever I run into difficulties. Thanks to
those good family spirits, both my life and study run smooth.
I hope you will be satisfied with my introduction. By the way, I sincerely invite you to come
to China and stay in my home for some time to experience more Chinese culture by yourself. You
are warmly welcome.
Yours,
Li Hua
