Do you think it enough to have eight hours of sleep per might Napoleon didn't agree with it. His saying went something like this: "Six hours for a man, seven for a woman and eight for a fool." But Napoleon's words weren't right, either. The ideal amount of sleep is different for everyone and depends on many factors, including age and genetic makeup.
In the past 10 years, my research team has surveyed sleep behavior in more than 150,000 people. About 11 percent slept six hours or less, while only 27 percent clocked eight hours or more. Most people fell in between. Women tended to sleep longer than men, but only by 14 minutes. Bigger differences are seen when comparing various age groups. Ten-year-olds needed about nine hours of sleep, while adults older than 30, including senior citizens, averaged about seven hours. We recently-found the first gene related to sleep length—if you have one kind of this gene, you need more sleep than if you have another.
Although it's common to hear warnings about .getting too much sleep—and 80 percent of the world uses an alarm clock to wake up on workdays—it's not difficult to figure out how much sleep we need. We sometimes overeat, but we generally cannot oversleep. When we wake up naturally, feeling comfortable, we have slept enough. In our modern society, we sleep about two hours less per night than 50 years ago. This sleep deprivation greatly decreases our work performance and harms our health and memory.
4. What main point does the writer try to make in Paragraph 1
A. Napoleon has his own sense of sleep time.
B. The quality of sleep time is more important.
C. Having 8 hours of sleep per night is common sense.
D. Different people needs different amount of sleep time.
5. What do we know from Paragraph 2
A. Women sleep much more than men. B. The older one is, the longer one sleeps.
C. Most people sleep between 6-and 8 hours. D. The sleep time is decided by gene.
6. What does the underlined phrase “steep deprivation” in Paragraph 3 mean
A. Too much sleep. B. A light sleep. C. No enough sleep. D. A deep sleep.
7. Where does this passage probably come from
A. A guidebook. B. A school report. C. A novel. D. A scientific research.
C
About six years ago I was going through a tough time, trying to work two jobs to afford my rent. On a cold Sunday morning, I went to GameStop-a video game retailer(零售商), to cancel the game I’d booked. A woman in a car parked outside called me when I exited the store. Though it was in broad daylight, I was shy about it and kept some distance when I walked over. She said she couldn’t walk and requested me to purchase a Kinect, a popular game, for her as her son’s Christmas gift. Because of her leg disease it was painful for her to move around. She called ahead but the employee(雇员)wasn’t willing to help. She gave me about $ 100 in cash and her credit card.
I walked back in and bought the Kinect. Then it occurred to me that this woman, a complete stranger, trusted me. What was it that stopped me from lying about the payment method and just pocket her cash She couldn’t know I wasn’t a cheat; and how could she possibly believe in someone so much
I handed her the cash back explaining I had to pay with her card-it was above $ 100 at the time, and handed over the game and her credit card. “This is what my son’s been longing for. Thank you! By the way, just from glancing at you, I know you are the one who will be a friend to someone in need. You have a face of an angel!” she said. She gave me $ 10 and refused to take it back. Then she drove away.
She had no idea how much of a difference even $ 10 made. I was able to buy a few cheap groceries for the week and it really made a hard time in my life a little better. She may think I helped her; however, I truly feel like the one who was being gifted something amazing.
8. What can we infer from Paragraph 1
A. The author canceled the video game for saving money.
B. The author worked so hard that there was no time for games.
C. The author was unwilling to help and kept a distance from the woman.
D. The woman requested the author to purchase a Kinect for her son’s birthday.
9. What can we know about the woman
A. She gave the author $ 10 for the video game.
B. She chose the author because he was handsome.
C. She might not know exactly how much the video game would cost.
D. She didn’t buy the video game by herself because of her laziness.
10. Which of the following words can best describe the author
A. Kind and honest. B. Brave and curious.
C Humorous and wise. D. Determined and energetic.
11. What can be the best title for the text
A. Kinect, a popular game. B. Help others, help yourself.
C. A stranger who had faith in me. D. An experience that changed my life.

Through our lives, we can gain a lot and lose so much. But being honest should always be with us, as honesty is always regarded as a virtue. Every time I talk about the topic, something crowds in my mind as if it had just happened.
I was 16 when one morning, Dad told me I could drive him to Mijas and then take the car in a nearby garage to get it serviced. At that time, I had just passed the driving test, and I hardly had a chance to use the car, so I said yes without hesitation.
I drove my father to Mijas, promising to pick him up again at 4 pm, then I went to a
nearby garage, and put the car in there. Since I had several hours to spare, I decided to go to a movie theater near the garage to see the movie. However, I was so absorbed in the plot of the movie that I forgot the time. When the last movie finished, I looked at my watch: 6 pm. I was two hours late!
I thought my father would be very angry if he knew what I was doing. And he would never let me drive again. So I decided to make up an excuse. Then, I drove to the appointed place, my father was sitting in a corner, waiting patiently. I first apologized for being late, then told him that I wanted to get there as soon as possible, but that something was wrong with some of the main parts of the car.
I would never forget the way he looked at me. “I'm very disappointed that you thought you had to lie to me, Jason.” My father looked at me again and said, “When you didn't show up on time, I called the gas station and asked if there was anything wrong They told me you never picked up the car. So, you see, I know there's nothing wrong with the car at all."
Paragraph 1
A wave of guilt swept over me and I had to admit the fact that I had gone to the movies and that was the real reason why I was late.

In our modern society, we sleep about two hours less per night than 50 years ago. This sleep deprivation greatly decreases our work performance and harms our health and memory.

What was it that stopped me from lying about the payment method and just pocket her cash She couldn’t know I wasn’t a cheat; and how could she possibly believe in someone so much
I handed her the cash back, explaining I had to pay with her card-it was above $ 100 at the time, and handed over the game and her credit card.

【答案】Dear editor,
Nowadays, school activities are becoming increasingly popular in senior high school. We also have many kinds of school activities in our school, such as the English Corner, Sunshine Radio Station, Happy Reading Club and so on.
I’m interested in the English Corner , because it can not only help me make some new friends, but also improve my spoken English. In addition, I’m fond of the Sunshine Radio Station where I can have an unforgettable experience and make good friends. I hope my dream of being a host may come true one day. These school activities make me feel more confident.
If you want to take part in school activities, I have some suggestions. First, you had better choose the activity which you like best. Second, try to make the best of your interest.
Yours,
Li Hua

【答案】A wave of guilt swept over me and I had to admit the fact that I had gone to the movies and that was the real reason why I was late .Dad listened carefully as a sadness passed through him,“I'm angry, not with you but with myself. You see. I realize that I have failed as a father if after all these years you feel that you have to lie to me. I have failed because I have brought up a son who cannot even tell the truth to his own father. I'm going to walk home now and think where I have gone wrong all these years”.
But father, it's exactly eighteen miles home from here , and it's dark. You can't walk back. " I begged .My protests, my apologies and the rest of my words were useless. I had let my father down. and I was about to learn one of the most painful lessons of my life. Dad began walking along the dusty roads. I quickly jumped in the car and followed behind. I apologized all the way, telling him how sorry I was, but he simply ignored me. For 18 miles he kept walking. Seeing my father in so much pain was the most awful experience that I have ever faced. However it was also the most successful lesson.
I apologized all the way, telling him how sorry I was, but he simply ignored me,Dad listened carefully as a sadness passed through him. as引导的状语从句,I realize that I have failed as a father if after all these years you feel that you have to lie to me.that引导的宾语从句。
