Parents often believe that they have a good relationship with their teenagers. But last summer, Joanna and Henry noticed a change in their older son. Suddenly he seemed to be talking far more to his friends than to his parents. "The door to his room is always shut," Joanna noted.
Tina and Mark noticed similar changes in their 14-year-old daughter. "She used to cuddle up (依偎) against me on the sofa and talk," said Mark. "Now we joke that she does this only when she wants something. Sometimes she wants to be treated like a little girl and sometimes like a young lady. The problem is understanding which time is which."
Before age 11, children like to tell their parents what's on their mind. "In fact, parents are first on the list," said Michael Riera, author of Uncommon Sense for Parents with Teenagers. "This completely changes during the teen years," Riera explained. "They talk to their friends first, then maybe their teachers, and their parents last."
Parents who know what's going on in their teenagers' lives are in the best position to help them. To break down the wall of silence, parents should create chances to understand what their children want to say, and try to find ways to talk and write to them. And they must give their children a mental(思想的) break, for children also need freedom, though young. Another thing parents should remember is that to be a friend, not a manager, with their children is a better way to know them.

People often go to cafés to relax themselves and keep themselves from falling asleep, but Mr Healing, a popular café chain in South Korea actually does the opposite. Customers can come in, order a drink, lie down on a comfortable massage (按摩) chair, and take a nap.
Many people suffer from a lack of sleep as a result of overworking, so any opportunity to relax and even take a nap is greatly appreciated. Mr Healing is the perfect place to go when you're on a short work or school break and need to catch up on sleep. The café offers massage periods in various modes, depending on how much time you have and how you choose to spend it.
The 20-minute session is priced at $3.5, the 30-minute massage costs $7, and the 50-minute session is $9, all of which also include a drink. Once you make your choice, you are taken to the "healing centre". You are asked to take off your shoes as well as any jewellery that might damage the chairs, after which you can choose a massage mode, from "stretch" or "sleep". You can start with stretch for a few minutes, and then switch to sleep if you want to take a short nap. After it comes to an end, you are taken back to the café area to enjoy a coffee or one of the many other refreshing drinks on the menu.
Mr Healing cafés are so popular in South Korea that customers are advised to make reservations in advance to be sure that a massage chair is available(可用的). "I have to sit on a chair and stare at a computer monitor all day due to my job, so the healing room is truly effective to relieve tiredness and stress from weekdays," said Park Hye-sun, a 24-year-old officer.
Some have described Mr Healing and other similar cafes in South Korea as simple fashions, but others see them as a sustainable business model, because they offer a service that people really need.

Many college students turn to ADHD(注意缺陷障碍)medicine during the exam week, which is regarded as “smart drugs” that will help their academic(学术的)performance. The thinking is that if the drugs help students with ADHD improve their focus, they should provide the same benefit for people who don’t have the disorder.
But a new study shows that drugs can actually damage brain fun_ction of healthy students who take the drug hoping to boost their intelligence. “It’s not a smart drug which will suddenly improve their ability to understand information they read,” said Lisa Weyandt, a professor at the University of Rhode Island.
To test whether this effect is real or not, researchers organized 13 students to take part in two five-hour study sessions(一段时间)in the lab. The students took the standard 30mg ADHD drugs before one session, and a sugar pill before the other. Students on ADHD drugs did experience an increase in their blood pressure and heart rates. “The medicine was having an effect on their brain,” Weyandt said. The students also showed an improvement in their ability to focus, the researchers found.
However, students on ADHD drugs experienced no improvement in reading comprehension, reading fluency or knowledge reviews, compared to when they’d taken a sugar pill. “We read aloud stories to them and asked them to recall information from the stories, ”she said. “That didn’t improve.”
Worse, the ADHD drug actually harms students’ memory. It’s often misused because people pull all-nighters and they’re tired, and they think it’s going to keep them awake. Maybe it does, but it’s certainly not going to help their academic work. The brain is still developing until the mid to late 20s. It’s important to keep it healthy. There’s also a chance that ADHD drugs could endanger a student’s heart health.
32.Why do some college students take ADHD drugs
A.To improve their sleeping. B. To get higher marks.
C.To make them feel relaxed. D.To treat brain disorder.
33.Which of the following is closest in meaning to the word “boost”in Paragragh 2
A.Analyze. B. Affect. C.Improve. D. Understand.

A.They became more focused.
B.Their blood pressure was reduced.
C.Their reading fluency was greatly raised.
D.They could remember better and more quickly.
35.Where can we read this text
A.In a drug instruction. B.In a biology textbook.

A young man and a young girl fell in love. But the man came from a poor family. The girl's parents weren't too happy. So the young man decided not only to please the girl but to please her parents as well. Over time, the parents saw that he was a good man and was worthy of their daughter's hand.
But there was another problem: the man was a soldier. Soon, the war broke out and he was being sent overseas for a year. The week before he left, the man went down on one knee and asked the girl, "Will you marry me " She wiped tears and said yes, and they were engaged. They agreed that when he got back in one year, they would get married.
But a tragedy struck. A few days after he left, the girl had a major vehicular accident. It was a head-on collision. When she woke up in the hospital, she saw her father and mother crying. Immediately, she knew that she must have been badly injured.
She later found out that she suffered the brain injury. The part of her brain that controlled her face muscles was damaged. Her once lovely face was now disfigured.
She cried as she saw herself in the mirror. "Yesterday I was beautiful. Today, I'm a monster." Her body was also covered with so many ugly wounds. Right there and then, she decided to release her fiancé (未婚夫) from their promise. She knew he wouldn't want her anymore. She would forget about him and never see him again.
For one year, the soldier wrote many letters—but she didn't answer. He phoned her many times but she didn't return his calls.
But after one year, the mother walked into her room and announced, "He's back from the war." The girl shouted, "No! Please don't tell him about me. Don't tell him I'm here!"

Dear John,
I am sorry to hear that you are suffering from Dou Yin addiction. Actually, it is commonly seen that more and more teenagers get crazy about DouYin and spend a lot of time watching and sharing videos online, which makes them unable to focus on study. Therefore, I think it is a must for you to take action. You should start some other hobbies, such as reading, listening to music or playing chess. Besides, you had better make more friends through face-to-face communication.
I sincerely hope that these ideas can help you with the problem.
Best wishes!
Yours,
Li Hua
