A
My brother in law opened the drawer of my sister’s cupboard and took out a package. He said,“This is a new silk slip (衬裙). Jane bought it in New York nine years ago. She never wore it. She was saving it for a special occasion. I guess this is the occasion.”
It was an exquisite (精美的) handmade silk slip. The price tag on it was still attached.
He took the slip from me and put it on the bed, with the other clothes we were taking to the mortician (殡仪员). His hands lingered on the soft material for a moment, and then he shut the drawer and turned to me,“Don't ever save anything for a special occasion. Every day you’re alive is a special occasion.”
His words have changed my mind. I’m spending more time with my family and less time on meetings. I’m trying to recognize these moments now and cherish them. I’m not saving anything. I wear my good skirt to the market if I feel like it. I can pay $28.49 for a small bag of groceries. I’m not saving my good perfume for special parties. If something is worth seeing, hearing or doing,I want to see, hear and do it now. “Someday”_has_disappeared_in_my_vocabulary.
I’m not sure what Jane would have done if she had known she’d not be here for the tomorrow. I’m guessing Jane would have called family members and a few close friends. She might have apologized to her former friends for their past quarrels. She’d have gone out for a Chinese dinner, her favorite food.
I’m trying hard not to put off, hold back,or save anything that would add laughter to our lives. Every morning I open my eyes,I tell myself that every day, every minute, every breath is a gift.

Parsley (欧芹) is an ancient green and a respected addition to many foods. But at other times, its job is just to make a mealtime plate look pretty. Poor parsley, valued for its looks, then is thrown away. Yet parsley is a good source of vitamins and other nutrients. The taste is a little strong for some people, but others chew on parsley to freshen their breath.
Curly parsley is the king that often ends up being used just for appearance. Flat leaf parsley is easier to work with for cooking. This kind is often called Italian or French parsley. Do you know about a third kind of parsley?Hamburg parsley has flat leaves that can be used for the same purposes as other parsley. But hamburg parsley has a large root which is used as a vegetable to add flavor to soups.
Parsley is used in foods such as tabouli,a traditional Lebanese salad and is often served with lamb, fish and beef dishes. Parsley is a herb if you use just the greens. If the root is used, then parsley is considered a vegetable.
Some gardeners suggest that to get the best tasting parsley, you should plant new seeds every year. You can get parsley to grow faster by pouring warm water over the seeds. Leave the seeds in the water overnight. Then you can grow them in containers indoors or plant them outside. Parsley grows best when temperatures are below twenty one degrees Celsius. It likes to grow in sunny places. The seeds need rich soil. Plant the seeds about fifteen to twenty five centimeters apart. Water them regularly during the first month. After that, parsley does not need very much water. You can harvest parsley by cutting most of the plant or leave more of the plant in the ground for a second crop.
35. From the passage we can learn that ________.
A. people don’t like parsley’s strong taste at all

D. only ancient people used parsley as an addition

C. Parsley. D. The Use of Parsley.
37. It seems ________ to the writer that parsley is valued for its looks.
A. regretful B. unbelievable C. confusing D. doubtful
38. The last paragraph mainly deals with ________.
A. how to use parsley B. whether people like parsley
C. how to plant parsley D. how the author feels about parsley
C
Most people think of racing when they see greyhounds (灰狗) and believe they need lots of exercise. They can actually be quite lazy! Greyhounds are good at fast races but not long distance running. They do need regular exercise but they like to run for a short burst and then get back on the bed or a comfortable seat. Another misunderstanding is that greyhounds must be aggressive (好斗的) because they are big in size. In fact greyhounds love people and are gentle with children.
Greyhounds can live for 12 14 years but usually only race for two or three years, and after that they make great pets. They don’t need a lot of space, don’t make a lot of noise, and don’t eat a lot for their size.
Normally, greyhounds can be as tall as 90 cm. There is,however,a small sized greyhound, which stands only 33cm. Greyhounds come in a variety of colors. Grey and yellowish brown are the most common. Others include black, white, blue, red and brown or a mix of these.
Greyhounds have smooth body coats, low body fat and are very healthy. Because they’re slim (苗条的) they don’t have the leg problems like other dogs the same height. But they do feel the cold, especially since they would much rather be at home in bed than walking around outside.
39. The text is written mainly ________.
A. to tell people how to raise greyhounds B. to let people know more about
greyhounds
C. to explain why greyhounds are aggressive D. to describe greyhounds of
different colors
40. It can be inferred that greyhounds ________.
A. love big doghouses B. like staying in bed all day
C. make the best guard dogs D. need some exercise outdoors
41. Why does the author say that greyhounds make great pets
A. They are big in size. B. They live a very long life.
C. They can run races for some time. D. They are quiet and easy to look after.
42. If you keep a pet greyhound,it is important ________.
A. to keep it slim B. to keep it warm
C. to take special care of its legs D. to take it to animal doctors regularly

依据第一段中的“Poor parsley,valued for its looks,then is thrown
away.”
依据第一段中的“Poor parsley,valued for its looks... and other
由第一段前两句 “Most people think of racing
when they see greyhounds and believe they need lots of exercise. They can
actually be quite lazy!”
由第一段中“They do need
regular exercise…”
根据第二段第二句 “They don’t need a lot of
space,don’t make a lot of noise,and don’t eat a lot for their size.”
When I was in high school, most of my had bicycles. I hoped I could also have . One day I saw a second hand bicycle, was only one hundred yuan. I asked my father the money. So he said he could only give me half of the money. should find the other half myself. So I went to sell newspapers after the school. My father was when I showed him the money a month . He me the other fifty. You can imagine happy I was when I rode to school on my own bicycle.
五、One possible version:
Good morning,everyone,
The_topic_of_my_speech_today_is_“Thoughts_on_becoming_a_grown up”.
As a child,I always hoped that I could grow up as soon as possible so that I could have whatever I wanted and do whatever I liked. Now I’m a grown up,but I find things do not go as I expected. Although I can enjoy more freedom,at the same time I realize that being a grown up not only means this, but also more responsibilities. I hope to do more for my parents and society in the future to make my life more meaningful. To reach the goal,I must first try my best to pass the college entrance examination and enter a good university.
Thank you for your listening.
