York Art Gallery CoCA celebrates our collection of British Studio Ceramics(陶瓷),which is the largest and the most important in the UK and covers the whole British studio ceramics movement.
Formed mainly of large gifts from private collectors, its exhibits(展品)show the unique personality of the creators, providing a chance for people to look into the socio-economic development of the British studio ceramics movement.
The collection is supported by wide and fascinating documents,as well as historical collections of ceramics which date back to prehistory.
CoCA is housed in two beautiful new gallery spaces on the first floor of York Art Gallery.
This programme will be supported by informal learning opportunities, academic research and events, all with the aim of promoting the understanding and enjoyment of this important but under-recognized area of ceramic art.
Click here to visit the Centre of Ceramic Art website.

The life of a premature(早产的)baby born during the winter storm in Texas was saved thanks to a team of medical professionals, including a doctor and two nurses who traveled from east Austin to Marble Falls in an effort to save the newborn baby's life.
When Arias began experiencing pains, she and her parents headed to the closest hospital,Baylor Scott & White.Arias gave birth to her daughter,Zaylynn, who weighed just over one pound and was in need of advanced special care. However, the hospital does not offer the specialized care premature babies require, short of proper equipment.
"We had five or six people out at the nurses' station calling hospital networks all over the state of Texas," said Meredith Schubert, the nurse on duty when Arias arrived. "Nobody could answer our cry for help."
They finally reached Dr.John Loyd, division neonatologist chief at Dell Children's Medical Center in Austin,Texas.Around 5 pm,after already having worked a long time,Loyd packed his SUV with equipment and he and two NICU(新生儿重症监护室)nurses set out for Marble Falls, about 55 miles away. The drive took Loyd and the nurses about two hours as they drove in the night through ice and snow.
After safely arriving at the Marble Falls medical center around 8 pm,the Dell Children's workers set up a simple NICU.Together, the Dell Children's and Baylor Scott & White teams worked around the clock to care for the mother and daughter.
Once the weather cleared enough to allow for a helicopter to safely land,Zaylynn was sent to Dell Children's,where there is a Level IV NICU.
"It was unbelievable when the helicopter lifted off. There were tears from all of us," said Schubert. "It was a huge relief(安慰)and sense of accomplishment and joy that she was doing so well and getting to the place that she needed to be."

Plant-eating dinosaurs probably arrived in the northern half of the world millions of years after meat-eating dinosaurs,a recent study found.Their late arrival was likely a result of climate changes that took place hundreds of millions of years ago.
The study used a new way to ascertain the age of dinosaur remains found in Greenland.Researchers found that the plant-eating dinosaurs were about 215 million years old.The mineralized(石化的)remains of bones are called fossils.Earlier, those fossils were thought to be as old as 228 million years. The findings could change how scientists think about dinosaur movements,or migrations.
The earliest dinosaurs all seemed to first develop about 230 million years ago or longer. They appeared in what is now South America. Then, the creatures moved north and spread all over the world. The new study suggests not all dinosaurs moved at the same time.
So far, scientists have not found any evidence of plant-eating dinosaurs living in the Northern Hemisphere before 215 million years ago.One of the best examples of these is the Plateosaurus,a two-legged,7-meter-long plant-eater that weighed around 4,000 kilograms.However,meat.eaters lived worldwide by at least 220 million years ago.
During the Triassic(三叠纪)period,230 million years ago,CO2 levels were 10 times higher than now.The Earth was hotter with no ice sheets at the poles and two areas of extreme deserts north and south of the equator(赤道).It was so dry in those areas that there were not enough plants for the plant-eaters to survive. But there were enough insects so that meat-eaters could.
About 215 million years ago,CO2 levels dropped. The drop resulted in more plant life in the deserts. The plant-eaters were then able to make the trip.Triassic changes in CO2 levels were from volcanoes and other natural forces. The changes were different from those in our times, when the burning of coal, oil and natural gas are considered the main causes of climate change.
8. Which can best replace the underlined word "ascertain" in paragraph 2? ______
A. Stress. B. Choose. C. Make use of. D. Find out.
9. What do we know about the Plateosaurus? ______
A. It was the largest living thing at that time.
B. It was a plant-eating dinosaur.
C. It lived at least 220 million years ago.
D. It was the earliest dinosaur in the south.
10. Why were meat-eating dinosaurs able to survive in the deserts? ______
A. They had enough food.
B. They had a strong body.
C. CO2 is harmless to them.
D. They were not afraid of dry climates.
11. What made the deserts covered with more plants? ______
A. The spread of small plants. B. Migration of dinosaurs.
C. The change of the atmosphere. D. An increase in rainfall.

The American robotics company Boston Dynamics recently made public a new robot called Stretch. It is designed to do only one job:to move containers,or boxes,in large storage buildings called warehouses(仓库).
Michael Perry is vice president of business development for Boston Dynamics. He said Stretch is the first robot designed for one job that the company has built. He added that the robot was developed because of requests from companies around the world.
"We heard pretty much universally across warehousing that truck unloading is one of the most physically difficult and unpleasant jobs. And that's where Stretch comes into play," Perry told Reuters.
Stretch has a small base that allows it to move around small spaces in existing warehouses without having to redesign them. The robot also has an arm with highly developed cameras that can identify(确定)and deal with boxes of many shapes and sizes.
Perry said Stretch can pick up boxes that weigh about 23 kilograms. He added that the robot can move about 800 boxes in one hour.Boston Dynamics is known for YouTube videos of its dog-like "Spot" and humanoid "Atlas" robots.Perry said now is a good time for its latest robot to benefit from increasing demand for speedy home delivery(运送).
Experts say the warehousing industry experienced strong growth in 2020.That growth is expected to continue this year. They say online buying during the COVID-19 health crisis drove the need for a huge expansion(扩大)in delivery services.
Boston Dynamics has not decided on a price for Stretch. But the company said the system can be set up without costly redesigns or investments in new buildings or structures.
12. What makes Stretch move easily through small places? ______
A. Its short arm.
B. Its small base.
C. Its highly developed cameras.
D. Its ability to identify boxes.
13. What do Spot,Atlas and Stretch have in common? ______
A. They have the same shape.
B. They are all famous online.
C. They are of the same weight.
D. They come from the same company.
14. What can be inferred from paragraph 6? ______
A. The new robot is increasingly needed.
B. Users worry about the price of robots.
C. Robots have replaced people in carrying heavy goods.
D. COVID-19 has changed the way of shopping completely.
15. Which of the following can be the best title for the text? ______

How to Be Creative During Difficult Times When we are struggling,or when we have a hard time focusing,we may turn to others for help.We may even wish we had a hero to help us.Well, today we offer you some advice.
Turn yourself into your own hero!
That is the idea behind Kendra Levin's self-help book The Hero Is You.When you make yourself a hero, you get not only a focus but also a purpose. (1) For example,it can give us hope as stories often do.In stories, writers often give their hero, the main person in the story,a purpose. (2)
Write out your task and idea.
In stories, heroes also have a task--what they want to achieve--and an idea--what they see for themselves.Levin suggests that we write out our task and idea, not just for a project but for our lives as well. With a clear task and an idea, events in our lives no longer feel like separate events. (3) There's just a lot of value in having a task and an idea.
Know your advantages and weaknesses.
(4) In difficult times,we can make our lives easier by focusing on our advantages. It is even more important to identify weaknesses. All heroes have them.On their journey they face their weaknesses and learn from them.
Have small goals within a larger goal.
Levin tells us that the hero's journey is not a one-time thing. (5) So,she suggests having small goals that you can measure in some way.Our life's journey is ongoing and ever-changing.We should be realistic with our goals and be kind to ourselves, especially during difficult times.
A.You can never really finish all tasks.
B.They become a part of our larger story.
C.It is a journey you are on your whole life.
D.When we know our advantages,we can use them fully.
E.Making ourselves the hero in our own story helps us in many ways.
F.The more we know about the world, the better we understand ourselves.
G.Levin suggests we do the same for ourselves and identify our purpose.

As I(34)that moment today,I can see that our(35) is a lot like that thread. We are all just a single string(细绳)in the world. We can't always see where we are going or what we are(36) to.However, don't feel(37) in the tapestry of life.Accept your(38) in it willingly. You may only be a single piece of thread but your love and your life help to(39) the whole thing together. You are put here for a purpose. 详解:
(1)when改为since.
(3)but改为and.
(4)the改为a或sweet改为sweetest.
(6)what改为which.
(7)去掉to. hear sb.do sth.
(8)part后面加in. take part in参加,故part后面加in。
