As computers become more and more popular in China, Chinese people are increasingly depending on computer keyboards to input Chinese characters. But if they use the computer too much, they may end up forgetting the exact strokes (笔画) of each Chinese character when writing on paper. Experts suggest people, especially students, write by hand more.
Do you write by hand more or type more In Beijing, students start using a computer as early as in primary school. And computer dependence is more wide spread among university students. Almost all their homework and writings are typed on a computer.
All the students interviewed say they usually use a computer.
It's faster and easier to correct if using a computer. And that's why computers are being used more and more often to modern education. But when people are taking_stock_of computers increasingly, problems appear.
“When I'm writing with a pen, I find I often can't remember how to write a character, though I feel I'm familiar with it.”
“I'm not in the mood to write when faced with a pen and paper.”
Many students don't feel this is something to worry about. Now that it's more convenient and efficient to write on a computer, why bother to handwrite
Many educators think differently. Shi Liwei, the headmaster of a famous primary school in the capital said, “Chinese characters enjoy both practical value and artistic beauty. But those characters typed with computer keyboards only maintain their practical value. All the artistic beauty of the characters is lost. And handwriting contains the writer's emotion. Through one's handwriting, people can get to know one's thinking and personality. Beautiful writing will give people a better first impression of them.”
To encourage students to handwrite more, many primary schools in Beijing have made writing classes compulsory (必修的) and in universities, some professors are asking students to turn in their homework and essays written by hand.

Nowadays many people have changed their hobbies and the way they enjoy their free time. Because of the television and the Internet, many people spend less time reading, so the aim of this article is to give reasons why people should read just for pleasure. The reasons that I give you are quite simple: to improve your knowledge, to have more fun, to make your imagination fly, to find new ways to express your ideas, and to have a better understanding of life.
Firstly, you can improve your knowledge when you read. There are many kinds of good books to choose from. People who read more usually have a better idea about life than those who do not read so often.
Secondly, you can have fun and increase your imagination by reading books. Children have very good imaginations, so parents need to read lots of stories that feed their imaginations. Adults should try to develop their imaginations by reading books that make them think amazing things.
Finally, no matter how old you are, it can help you to have a better understanding of life and express your ideas to others in a simple and correct form.
So I suggest that you read more. I know that many of us like to play on the Internet when we are free, but we shouldn't forget to read books. Try to choose good books in the beginning, and then I'm sure that you will never stop reading.
5.Why do many people spend less time in reading now
A.Because they are all busy with their work.
B.Because there aren't any good books to read.
C.Because they are more interested in the Internet.
D.Because the books on the Internet are more interesting.

Researchers are placing robotic dogs (机器狗) in the homes of lonely old people to determine whether they can improve the quality of life for humans. Alan Beck, an expert in human animal relationship, and Nancy Edwards, a professor of nursing, are leading the animal assisted study about the influence of robotic dogs on old people's depression, physical activity, and satisfaction “No one will argue that an older person is better off being more active, challenged, or stimulated (刺激),” Edwards points out. “The problem is how we promote(使……成为现实) that, especially for those without friends or help. A robotic dog could be a solution.”
In the study, the robot, called AIBO, is placed for six weeks in the houses of some old people who live alone. Before placing AIBO in the home, researchers will collect baseline data for six weeks. These old people will keep a diary to note their feelings and activities before and after AIBO. Then, the researchers will review the data to determine if it has inspired any changes in the life of its owner.
“I talk to him all the time, and he responds (回应) to my voice,” says a seventy year old lady, “When I'm watching TV, he'll stay in my arms until he wants down. He has a mind of his own.”
The AIBOs respond to certain orders. The researchers say they have some advantages over live dogs, especially for old people. Often the elderly are disabled and cannot care for an animal by walking it or playing with it. A robotic dog removes exercise and feeding concerns.
“At the beginning, it was believed that no one would relate to the robotic dog, because it was metal and not furry,” Beck says. “But it's amazing how quickly we have given up that belief.”
“Hopefully, down the road, these robotic pets could become a more valuable health helper. They will record their masters' blood pressure, oxygen levels or heart rhythms. AIBOs may even one day have games that can help stimulate older people's minds.”
9.The purpose of Beck and Edwards' study is to ________.
A.understand human animal relationship
B.make lonely old people's life better
C.find the causes of old people's loneliness
D.promote the animal assisted research
10.In the research, the old people are asked to ________.
A.note the activities of AIBOs
B.keep AIBOs at home for 12 weeks
C.record their feelings and activities
D.analyse the collected information
11.What is the advantage of AIBO over live dogs
A.It is easier to keep at home.
B.It can help the disabled people.
C.It responds to all the human orders.
D.It can watch TV with its owner.
12.The author seems to suggest that the future robotic dogs may ________.
A.cure certain diseases
B.keep old people active

Ⅳ.概要写作
阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。
Most kids have problems with friends from time to time, so if you feel sad about this, remember lots of kids feel the same. If you are feeling left out and sad a lot of the time, tell your mum or dad or your teacher and ask her/him to help you.
No one wants to play with me today. Why Sometimes the friend you usually play with wants to play with someone else. This is OK. It is normal for people to want a change, but you might feel a bit sad or upset. Maybe your friend wants to join in a game or try his skills with others. Maybe he meets someone after school and wants to know him better. Maybe you hurt his feelings and he can't talk to you about it because he doesn't know how to begin.
What can you do Try asking your friend, nicely, if you have upset him at all. Ask if he would like to talk about anything. If he still wants to play without you, then say that's OK. Look for other people in your class and go and stand near them. If they are playing a game, watch for a while and then see if you could join in.
Look for someone to help—if you can't find anyone to play with, get a rope or a ball and practise your skills. Maybe someone else will come to talk or play with you.
Be positive—don't think you will never have another friend. There are lots of people out there just wanting to make new friends!
If you make friends with some different people, then you can arrange to play with them again. Take something to play with to school the next day. If your friend is still not wanting to play with you, then you can ask other kids to play with you or play with the toy or the game yourself.
