The last few days before Christmas passed quickly and it was soon Christmas Eve. That night when everyone
went to bed, Bunny couldn’t sleep. He still couldn’t think of what he wanted his Christmas gift to be. He wondered
how Father Christmas would know what to bring him if he didn’t know himself.
As he was sitting up in bed. Bunny heard a big noise on the roof(屋顶) and a sound downstairs. It was Father
Christmas, he realised. Bunny jumped out of bed and raced down the hall to the stairs hoping to have a look at the
old man with his own eyes.
By the time Bunny reached the bottom of the stairs, though, everything was again silent. Beautiful gifts were
piled(堆积) under the Christmas tree, but Father Christmas was gone. He looked for him for a few minutes, but it
was already too late. Bunny turned to climb back upstairs when he heard a cry.
“Hello,” said Bunny. “Is somebody there?”
He was answered by another cry. Bunny looked around the big pile of gifts to see what was making the noise.
Right under the tree was a funny looking brown animal with big feet and sad eyes. Bunny might have mistaken it
for a dog, if it hadn’t been for the antlers(鹿角) on its head.
“Are you a reindeer(驯鹿)?” asked Bunny.
“Yes,” replied the animal, “my name is Ralph.”
“And you were pulling Father Christmas’s sledge(雪橇) ”

Before you make friends, you have to decide who you want to be your friends. Most people like to have friends
who like to do the same kind of things they do.
The quickest way to make a friend is to smile. When you smile, people think you are friendly and easy to talk
to. It may not be easy at first to smile, but remember most people will stay away from a scary or angry look.
One easy way to start a conversation with someone is to say something nice about him. Think about how great
you feel when someone says something nice to you. Doesn’t it make you want to keep talking to that person
Ask your new friends questions about themselves. Who’s their favourite singer, where do they live, what do
they do after school are all good questions to start a conversation. Make sure you have something to add to the
conversation, too. When someone asks you a question, do have an answer for it. There is nothing that will stop a
conversation quicker than a shrug for an answer.
Kids who show an interest in other kids and who are kind and friendly make good friends. Remember, everyone
wants to be around people who like to do similar things and people who are nice to them.
28. This passage gives us some advice on ________.

Do you want to live another 100 years or more Some experts say that scientific advances will one day enable
humans to last tens of years beyond what is now seen as the natural limit of the human life span.
“I think we are knocking at the door of immortality(永生),” said Michael Zey, a Montclair State University
business professor and author of two books on the future. “I think by 2075 we will see it and that’s a conservative
estimate(保守的估计).”
At the conference in San Francisco, Donald Louria, a professor at New Jersey Medical School in Newark said
advances in using genes as well as nanotechnology(纳米技术) make it likely that humans will live in the future
beyond what was possible in the past. “There is a great push so that people can live from 120 to 180 years,” he said.
“Some have suggested that there is no limit and that people can live to 200 or 300 or 500 years.”
However, many scientists who specialize in ageing are doubtful about it and say the human body is just not
designed to last about 120 years. Even with healthier lifestyles and less disease, they say failure of the brain and
organs will finally lead all humans to death.
Scientists also differ on what kind of life the super aged might live. “It remains to be seen if you pass 120, you
know; could you be healthy enough to have good quality of life?” said Leonard Poon, director of the University of
Georgia Gerontology Centre. “At present people who can get to that point are not in good health at all.”
32. By saying “we are knocking at the door of immortality”, Michael Zey means ________.
A. they believe that there is no limit of living
B. they are sure to find the truth about long living
C. they have got some ideas about living forever
D. they are able to make people live past the present life span
33. Donald Louria’s attitude towards long living is that ________.
A. people can live from 120 to 180 years B. it is still doubtful how long humans can live
C. the human body is designed to last about 120 years D. it is possible for humans to live longer in the future
34. The underlined word “it”(Paragraph 4) refers to ________.
A. a great push B. the idea of living beyond the present life span
C. the idea of living from 200 to 300 years D. the conservative estimate
35. What would be the best title for this text

第二节 读后续写(满分 25 分)

Sometimes people complain that getting to work in a big city is no easy matter, just like the popular saying goes,
“Taking a bus is too crowded, getting a taxi is too expensive, buying a car is not practical.” It seems that traffic jams
and cities go hand in hand. Everyone complains about being stuck in traffic; however, like the weather, no one seems
to do anything about it. Needless to say, traffic jam occurs where there are lots of people but limited spaces. However,
there are indeed some things you can do to reduce the time you spend in traffic jams.
For example, the highway is not always the fastest way to get from Point A to Point B. Research the area and
check online maps to see if you can find a shorter route to work, which usually flows more smoothly during rush
hour and can help reduce much of your driving time. From the above you may know that alternative route is of great
importance.
Let’s take another example. Most of the population works from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., which means that the
majority of traffic jams happen around 7 a.m., and 6 p.m. So if you want to avoid a traffic jam, talk to your manager
about arriving at the office earlier and leaving earlier. If some of us and companies can do like this, the conditions
of heavy traffic can be changed in a way.
Finally, you can take gymnastics, dance or yoga classes after work to avoid traffic jams. Actually, there are
many reasons for us to take exercise classes and go to the gym, instead of shopping and entertaining friends after
