of Rio, but she couldn’t see the thief. She was angry and unhappy. “My manuscript! It’s in that bag!
Months and months of work!” she thought.
Then slowly, Gisela walked home to her apartment building. Ricardo was waiting for her at the door!
Gisela was surprised at the sight of him. Ricardo smiled and said, “I have your bag and you have …”
Gisela said, “Sorry. A thief had your bag!” Ricardo laughed. “The thief can have my old shirts and
jeans! A big mistake!” he said. Gisela smiled at Ricardo and said, “Thank you. I have my manuscript.
A lucky mistake for me!” Gisela asked Ricardo how he found her address. It turned out that he got it
from the label!
The bus stopped and Gisela opened her eyes.
睁开了眼睛),由于前文已经有铺垫“Immediately the bus stops, I will take the bag and run.”,可知,
Then slowly, Gisela walked home to her apartment building. (然
后,Gisela 慢慢地走回她的公寓大楼),本段应该根据前文铺垫“But when Ricardo looked down at the label
of the bag he found something was wrong.(但当 Ricardo 低头看袋子的标签时,他发现有些地方不对。)”
Gisela

When we were very small, we realized that having friends was important. Some of us even had imaginary(想
象中的)friends. The need for friends continued as we grew into our teens. Friends played a big part in forming our
personalities(性格). As adults, it is still important for us to have friends.
True friends are people who like us though we made mistakes and who listen to us and tell us the truth. Friends
support our decisions and tell us when we’re foolish. They laugh with us and share our sadness. They are our partners
and share interests with us. They stimulate us when we are feeling down. They are people we aren’t afraid of telling
our secret wishes to or what is really on our minds.
Friends are our supporters. When you can depend on friends, you feel safe and warm. Friends offer acceptance
and emotional(情感的) support. At times, they also help with our everyday lives, cooking a meal, doing chores, or
giving us a lift when we need one. Friends also are there to offer advice, an ear to listen, or a shoulder to cry on.
Friends also help us reduce stress. Not only do they listen to us when we feel stressed, but they also discuss what

The arts, especially music, should be part of every school's lessons at every grade level. Students would be much
smarter if they had some musical experience. They could improve their classroom skills, like paying attention and
following directions. People develop all these skills when they learn music. Making music also lets children use their
imagination. It provides students with a chance to try out their own ideas.
Music not only makes children better students, but also gives them something positive to do. In a music program,
children can be part of a band instead of joining a gang(团伙). Parents can enjoy listening to their children's music
instead of seeing them glued to a computer or TV screen. In a school band, students get to be part of a team. They
can get along well with old friends and make new friends through music.
Music builds self-confidence, too. It gives children a sense of achievement and success. Making music is
something for them to be proud of, and it lets kids practice performing in front of an audience. Music gives children
an opportunity for self-expression, and that helps develop their self-confidence.
Once again, music is important because it can make children better students, give them something positive to
do, and build their character. That is why music should be offered in every single grade in every school.

Please Don’t Be Afraid To Travel On Your Own
You want to travel. You make an unclear plan. 16 But either way, you’re leaving in six months time. You
start doing research every single night.
Of course, as this will be your first ‘real’ travel experience, you naturally prefer to travel with other people.
17 But the first friend you ask, perhaps your closest friend, turns you down and so you move on to the next friend.
18 The third friend, the fourth friend and even that guy that you don’t really like say no as well.
19 You hope that one of your friends will change their mind and decide to join you. Maybe you decide to
forget about your trip altogether, fully believing that you can only travel so far away from home with a friend or
travel companion(同伴) by your side.
Don’t give up just yet. Here’s my advice to you. You may be on your own when you board that flight to Bangkok
or Mexico City, but believe me, once you arrive, you’ll never actually be alone. That’s how travel works. Unless you
stare at the ground and never talk to anyone, you’re going to meet people when you travel, lots and lots of people
from all over the world. 20
A. Don’t give it up.
B. Maybe you’ll fly to Thailand or to Mexico.
C. Meeting new people is one of the worst things to do.
D. But they too, tell you they have no interest to join you at all.
E. They will be interested in meeting and hanging out with you.
F. So you start asking your friends to join you in your journey.
G. Maybe you decide to put off your trip for another six months.

Gisela was going home to Rio de Janeiro after a month’s vacation in London. Ricardo lived in Rio de Janeiro.
After two months in England, he was going home. He found his seat on the airplane. Gisela was sitting in the seat
near him.
“Hi!” Ricardo said to Gisela. He smiled at her. Gisela looked up, but she didn’t smile. “Hello,” she said, and she
looked down at her book again. “My name’s Ricardo,” Ricardo said. Gisela looked up at him. “Is it ” she said. Then
she looked at her book again. “What’s your name ” he asked. Gisela didn’t look up from her book this time.
“Gisela.”“ That’s a pretty name,” Ricardo said.
Ricardo talked about his name in England. “I like London. Do you like London, Gisela ” Gisela put down her
book and sighed(叹气). “Yes,” she said. “I like London. And I like quiet people!”
Later, there was a movie. Ricardo was watching the movie, and after a time he slept. Gisela began to think about
her manuscript(手稿). She was writing her first book. “I can finish the story in Rio,” she thought.
Many hours later, the airplane arrived at Rio de Janeiro airport. Gisela and Ricardo went into the building and
waited for their bags. Gisela’s bag was blue. Suddenly, she saw a blue travel bag. “Here it is!” she thought, “Good.
Now I can go and Ricardo can’t follow me.” She quickly took the bag and left the airport.
Ricardo watched Gisela. “Wait for me, Gisela!” he thought. Then, suddenly, he saw a blue bag. “That’s my bag!”
he thought. But when Ricardo looked down at the label of the bag he found something was wrong.
Gisela got on a bus. The bus was very hot and Gisela’s eyes closed. She slept after the long journey from London.
A man on the bus was looking at the blue travel bag. “Maybe there’s money in that bag, or some expensive clothes,”
he thought. “Immediately the bus stops, I will take the bag and run.”
