We flew through some clouds. They were very white, like cotton, and beautiful. Then we began to come down because we were near Singapore. We went through the clouds and flew over Singapore. It was very interesting. When we got out of the plane,I said, “I like flying!”

Scientific experts have warned that deadly pandemics(大流行病) are likely to keep happening if action is not taken to protect natural environments. The warning came in a report from the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services, an international expert group that advises governments. The group has more than 130 member states.
The experts called for major efforts aimed at preventing pandemics rather than trying to contain them after they happen The report urges major worldwide efforts to stop habitat destruction that can lead viruses to jump from wild animals to humans.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has estimated that three out of every four new or emerging infectious diseases in people come from animals. Scientists have said COVID-19 probably started in bats and began spreading among humans.
In their report, the experts predict that about half of an estimated 1.7 million undiscovered viruses in nature might be able to infect people. Activities such as poaching(偷猎) or clearing forests to grow soy or palm oil can bring humans and disease closer together.
Peter Daszak was the report’s lead writer. He is president of EcoHealth Alliance, an international health, environment and development organization. He said in a statement that even though the experts call for urgent action, “this report is not a misfortune suggesting the world’s going to end and it’s too late.” Instead, Daszak said it should be seen as “an optimistic call for action.”
He noted that the current method for dealing with pandemics is to wait for them to emerge and then try to identify them before they spread. COVID-19 has demonstrated the problems with that plan. Officials attempted to contain COVID-19 after the disease was discovered last year, but it was already too late. “And here we are waiting for a vaccine(疫苗) and drugs to work,” Daszak said. “It’s not a good strategy. We need to do more.”
24. Why does the aim of urging habitat protection need major world efforts
A. To prevent viruses spreading from animals to humans.
B. To stop illegal poaching and forest destruction.
C. To control pandemics after they happen.
D. To strengthen international cooperation.
25. How many natural viruses might infect humans
A. About 1.7 million. B. About 0.85 million.
C. About three fourths. D. About 130.
26. What might be good strategy according to Peter Daszak
A. Waiting for pandemics to appear.
B. Expecting effective vaccines and drugs.
C Investigating pandemics after they appear.
D. Acting earlier and more actively to explore more
27. What can be a suitable title for the text
A. Advice from Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform.
B. Experts’ Views on Disease Control and Prevention.
C. More Deadly Pandemics if Nature Not Protected.
D. Unstoppably Increasing Pandemics.
A 25. B 26. D 27. C
根据第二段第二句“The report urges major worldwide efforts to stop habitat destruction that can lead viruses to jump from wild animals to humans.(该报告敦促世界各国作出重大努力,阻止栖息地破坏,栖息地破坏可能导致病毒从野生动物向人类传播。)” 故选A项。
根据第四段第一句“In their report, the experts predict that about half of an estimated 1.7 million undiscovered viruses in nature might be able to infect people. (在他们的报告中,专家们预测,自然界约170万未被发现的病毒中,大约有一半可能会感染人类。)”可知,约有85万种天然病毒可以感染人类。故选B项。
【26题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段中“Officials attempted to contain COVID-19 after the disease was discovered last year, but it was already too late. “And here we are waiting for a vaccine(疫苗) and drugs to work,” Daszak said. “It’s not a good strategy. We need to do more.”(去年发现COVID-19后,官员们试图控制疫情,但已经太晚了。达扎克说:“我们在这里等待疫苗和药物发挥作用。”“这不是一个好策略。我们需要做得更多。”)”可知,彼得·达扎克认为应该尽早行动,积极探索更多策略。故选D项。
【27题详解】
主旨大意题。根据第一段中“Scientific experts have warned that deadly pandemics(大流行病) are likely to keep happening if action is not taken to protect natural environments. (科学专家警告说,如果不采取行动保护自然环境,致命的大流行病可能会继续发生。)”可知,本文主要讲述了科学家们对不采取环保措施将导致更多大流行病进行了警告。所以短文的最佳标题为“如果大自然得不到保护,就会发生更致命的大流行病”故选C项。
C
Nothing succeeds like success, as every parent of a straight-A student knows, but trying to stress academic excellence by telling your child, “You’re so smart!” may be counterproductive. Why According to a 2017 study, children who think their intelligence is fixed are less likely to pay attention to and bounce back (重新振作) from mistakes than children who think intelligence can grow and change.
In the study, researchers looked at 123 children. The team assessed the children to determine whether they had a “growth mindset” (believing that you can work harder to get smarter), or a “fixed mindset” (believing that your intelligence is unable to change). They then asked the children to complete a fast-paced computer accuracy task while their brain activity was recorded. During the recording, researchers noted that brain activity stopped within a half-second after making a mistake, as children became aware of their mistake and paid closer attention to what went wrong. The larger the brain response was, the more the child focused on the mistake. Based on the data, they concluded that children with a “growth mindset” were much more likely to have a larger brain response after making a mistake. While children with a “fixed mindset” were able to "bounce back”, only if they gave their full attention to the mistake.
For parents, the lessons are clear: Don’t pay your children compliments that suggest that intelligence is fixed. If your child hands you an A score, don’t say, “You’re so smart!” Instead, say, “Wow, that studying really paid off!” or “You clearly mastered this material-way to go!” Note the effort, not the intelligence.
Besides, many parents shy away from addressing a child’s mistakes, telling them “It’s OK. You’ll get it the next time.” without offering them the chances to figure out what goes wrong. Instead, it’s better to reassure your children that mistakes happen, and work to figure out where and how they make the mistake.
28. Which of the following best explains “counterproductive” underlined in paragraph 1
A. Opposite. B. Competitive.
C. Successful. D. Unknown.
29. How did the children with a "growth mindset" react in the study
A. They made fewer mistakes.
B. They tried to avoid mistakes.
C. They had smaller brain response.
D. They focused more on the mistake.
30. What should parents say when children make a mistake according to the text
A. You are so careless.
B. Your studying paid off.
C. You’ll get it the next time.
D. Let’s find out how you made it.
31. What should be avoided according to the study
A. Overstressing the intelligence.
B. Paying compliments to children.
C. Addressing children’s mistakes.
D. Offering chances to find mistakes.
A 29. D 30. D 31. A
根据前文“Nothing succeeds like success, as every parent of a straight-A student knows, but trying to stress academic excellence by telling your child, “You’re so smart!”(每一位优等生的家长都知道,凡事皆有成功之分,但试图通过对孩子说“你真聪明!”来强调学业优秀)”结合but表示转折意义,可推测,counterproductive指的是“相反的”意思。故选A。
根据第二段“The larger the brain response was, the more the child focused on the mistake. Based on the data, they concluded that children with a “growth mindset” were much more likely to have a larger brain response after making a mistake.(大脑的反应越大,孩子对错误的关注就越大。基于这些数据,他们得出结论,具有“成长型思维模式”的儿童在犯错后更有可能有更大的大脑反应。)”可知,“成长心态”儿童在研究中更关注的是错误。故选D。
【30题详解】
细节理解题。根据最后一段“Instead, it’s better to reassure your children that mistakes happen, and work to figure out where and how they make the mistake.(相反,最好是让你的孩子知道错误发生了,并找出他们在哪里犯了错误,是如何犯的。)”
根据第一段“According to a 2017 study, children who think their intelligence is fixed are less likely to pay attention to and bounce back from mistakes than children who think intelligence can grow and change.” 故选A。
D
Tommy, a 26-year-old chimp(猩猩),lives in a small cage in a used truck sales lot in New York. Retired from movie work and whatever else once occupied him, he has no chimp friends to keep him company — just a TV. He is worlds away from the rainforest of Western Africa, where chimps spend most of their lives in trees, hunting, and socializing together.
His owner hasn't broken any laws, but an animal rights group called the Nonhuman Rights Project (NhRP) is trying to change the view. The group says chimps have such a humanlike intelligence that they should be recognized as “legal persons" and be placed in an animal shelter and wander free.
You've probably heard the term “animal rights”, but animals don't actually have rights in many countries. Animal-welfare laws punish people who mistreat animals, but that's not the same as chimps having a right to liberty or anything else.
NhRP's first step is to ask a judge to end people's unjust arrest on behalf of Tommy and other privately owned chimps. If the court decides to recognize chimps as legal persons, NhRP's next step will be arguing for what rights the chimps should be granted. "The right that we believe they should have most of all is the right to bodily liberty," says Wise, a NhRP group member. "They should be able to choose how to live their lives.”
Tommy's owner, Pat Lavery, says he rescued Tommy from a careless owner about a decade ago and denies the chimp is mistreated or unhappy. "He likes being by himself," he says.
“There's a danger in making a jump to say they're just like people," says Richard Cupp, a professor who writes about animals and the law. "If we' re really focused on chimps being very, very smart, then who knows if maybe someday we might …say, ‘Hey, here's a particular human being that's not very smart at all, maybe the chimps have higher status than this person.’”
32. What can we know about Tommy
A. He is living a very lonely life.
B. He dislikes living in the rainforest.
C. He likes watching movies very much,
D. He was illegally bought by Pat Lavery.
33. What can we infer from the text
A. Great progress has been made on improving animal rights.
B. Pat Lavery is thought to mistreat Tommy by NhRP.
C. Animal rights are going from bad to worse.
D. Animal rights have been admitted in western countries.
34. What's the final goal NhRP wants to achieve
A. To ensure chimps' bodily safety. B. To stop illegal hunting of chimps.
C. To help chimps find their families. D. To help chimps enjoy their freedom.
35. What's Richard Cupp's attitude towards NhRP's efforts to win rights for chimps
A. Hopeful, B. Uncaring.
C. Worried. D. Supportive.
A 33. B 34. D 35. C
根据第一段“Retired from movie work and whatever else once occupied him, he has no chimp friends to keep him company — just a TV.”(从电影和其他曾经占据他的工作中退休后,他没有黑猩猩朋友陪伴他——只有一台电视。) 故选A项。
根据倒数第二段“Tommy's owner, Pat Lavery, says he rescued Tommy from a careless owner about a decade ago and denies the chimp is mistreated or unhappy.”(汤米的主人帕特·拉弗里(Pat Lavery)说,大约十年前他从一个粗心大意的主人手中救出了汤米,并否认这只黑猩猩受到了虐待或不开心。)
根据第二段“The group says chimps have such a humanlike intelligence that they should be recognized as “legal persons" and be placed in an animal shelter and wander free.”(该组织说,黑猩猩具有类似人类的智力,它们应该被认定为“法人”,并被安置在动物收容所,可以自由漫步。)根据倒数第三段“They should be able to choose how to live their lives”他们应该能够选择如何生活。可推断,NhRP的最终目标是帮助黑猩猩获得自由。故选D项。
【35题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段““There's a danger in making a jump to say they're just like people," says Richard Cupp, a professor who writes about animals and the law. "If we' re really focused on chimps being very, very smart, then who knows if maybe someday we might …say, ‘Hey, here's a particular human being that's not very smart at all, maybe the chimps have higher status than this person.’””(“轻率地说它们和人类一样是有危险的,”研究动物和法律的教授理查德·卡普(Richard Cupp)说。“如果我们真的把注意力集中在非常非常聪明的黑猩猩身上,那么谁知道也许有一天我们会说,‘嘿,这有一个人一点也不聪明,也许黑猩猩的地位比这个人高。’”)可推断,Richard Cupp对NhRP为黑猩猩争取权利的努力持担忧的态度。故选C项。
第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
It would be easy to think that since houseplants live inside , they don’t really experience seasons as their outdoor relatives do. It’s true that they’re provided a lot more protection inside. ___36___They do,they do and they’d appreciate a few seasonal changes. If you’ve given your houseplants outside time in summer , bring them in before temperatures reach a low of 55 degrees Fahrenheit.___37___ For example, clear the dead leaves, which can attract pests. In this way, you won’t bring in whatever may be harmful to your indoor environment.
___38___Fall is the perfect time to leach out(滤掉)any salt by letting the water run freely out of the bottom of the pot. The water will also clean off any dust that collects on the leaves.
Give them a trim( 修剪). Remove any dead or dying leaves :cut the leaves that are brown or yellow at the base. For brown or yellowing tips, you can just cut off the unhealthy leaves. ___39___
Be mindful of extreme temperatures. Being extremely hot or cold can stress plants out. ____40____Make sure they aren’t on the top of radiators(散热器)or by heaters; likewise, make sure they’re far from doors that are open to the outside.
A. Be careful with watering.
B. Give them a good shower.

根据上文提示“It’s true that they’re provided a lot more protection inside.”(的确,他们在里面得到了更多的保护。) However, this doesn’t mean that they don’t know what’s going on.(然而,这并不意味着他们不知道发生了什么。)切题。该项中的However与上文构成转折关系,this指代的是上文中的provided a lot more protection inside。故选F。
根据上文提示“If you’ve given your houseplants outside time in summer , bring them in before temperatures reach a low of 55 degrees Fahrenheit.”(如果你夏天让室内植物在室外生长,那就在温度达到55华氏度之前把它们带进来。)再根据下文提示“For example, clear the dead leaves, which can attract pests.”(例如,清除会吸引害虫的枯叶。) But you have to give them a thorough check.(但你得给他们做个彻底的检查。)

此处考查固定短语be interested in“对……感兴趣”,故将interest改interested。
2.考查代词。结合上下文可知,此处意为“推荐我自己”,应用反身代词,故将me改为myself。
3.考查时态。结合上下文以及once“曾经”可知,本句讲述过去的事情,应用一般过去时,故将am改为was。

9.考查代词。此处考查固定短语keep up with…“跟上”,其宾语位于with之后,所以句中it是多余的,故删除keep后的it。

1.分析从句成分:从句is happening in and around our campus缺少主语

The warning came in a report from the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services, an international expert group that advises governments. The group has more than 130 member states.
The experts called for major efforts aimed at preventing pandemics rather than trying to contain them after they happen. The report urges major worldwide efforts to stop habitat destruction that can lead viruses to jump from wild animals to humans.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has estimated that three out of every four new or emerging infectious diseases in people come from animals Scientists have said COVID-19 probably started in bats and began spreading among humans.

A. Hopeful, B. Uncaring.
C. Worried. D. Supportive.
