On a wild mountain, two goats met on a road just over a high cliff(悬崖). The road was so narrow that there was neither room for them to pass each other nor to turn round and go back. What do you think the two goats did
One of them with great care laid himself down on the narrow road, pressing as close to the rock as he could. Then the other goat softly walked on his friend, till, safely past him,he could lightly jump away.
The goat that had lain down then stood up slowly from his place, safe and sound, free to jump again from rock to rock, and enjoyed the sweet grass on the hills happily.
However, two other goats met on the banks of a rushing river. A tree had fallen across the river, and became a bridge from the one side to the other.
The two goats looked at each other, and each wished to pass over first.
They stood for a while one foot on the tree, each thinking that the other would turn back. But neither of them would give way, and they met at last on the middle of the narrow bridge!
They then began to push and fight with their horns, till at last their feet missed, and both the goats fell into the running river, and were lost in the water!

It is very important to have a law to base your life on. As for me, the law of life is that success is a journey, not a destination. It means that the most important is not where you are in the end, but what you have accomplished while you are trying along the way.
One person who shares my law of life is Mark McGwire, a US baseball player. He once played for St. Louis Cardinals. He wasn’t caught up in the home-run competition in the 1998 season, but he tried his best to play every game. And, most of the time, he helped his teammates instead of promoting (提升) personal performance, because he wanted to make it a good season for the whole team.
I also think the Cardinals as a whole is following my law of life. They play every game with their full potential (潜力) instead of letting a few winning games go to their heads. They stay focused on the games in the World Series. Even if they lose some games, they never give up.
It doesn’t matter whether you have the ability to be on the top in the end or win the championship. All that matters is that you work hard the whole time. There are a few people in the world who have already understood that success is a journey, not a destination. But wouldn’t it be a much better world if everyone did After all, it’s not about who wins or loses, but about how well you play the game. I hope I can apply this to my own life.
61. According to the passage, the writer thinks that _______.
A. it’s important to win in the end
B. it’s important to try your best on the journey to success
C. you will succeed if you put your heart into it
D. it’s important to make your plan clear
62. Which of the following is NOT true about Mark McGwire
A. He is a baseball player in America.
B. He didn’t focus while playing every game.
C. He tried his best in every game.
D. He wanted his team to get a better result in the 1998 season.
63. The writer mentioned the Cardinals to show that________ .
A. everyone believes in his law of life B. sports players know how to win
C. they have the same opinion as his D. teamwork is very important
64. The underlined phrase “go to their heads” means “_______” in Chinese.
65. What’s the best title for the passage
A. Try to Be on the Top B. Win Every Game
C. Success Is a Destination D. The Law of Life
B 62. B 63. C 64. A 65. D

根据第二段“He wasn’t caught up in the home-run competition in the 1998 season, but he tried his best to play every game. (Mark McGwire并没有赶上1998年赛季的本垒打比赛,但是他还是认真地在每一场比赛中拼尽全力)”可知,Mark McGwire并没有因为没有赶上大赛,而自暴自弃,消极面对,而是在每一场比赛中都集中注意力,认真应对。故选B项。
【63题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段“I also think the Cardinals as a whole is following my law of life. (我认为红雀队的队员们也与我秉持一样的人生法则)”和第一段“As for me, the law of life is that success is a journey, not a destination.
根据第一段“It is very important to have a law to base your life on. As for me, the law of life is that success is a journey, not a destination. (有一项人生准则指导自己的人生是非常重要的。我的人生准则就是,成功是一段旅程,而非终点)”和最后一段“I hope I can apply this to my own life. (我希望能将这样的人生准则实践到自己的生活中去)”可知,作者在这篇文章主要谈论关于成功的人生准则的意义。由此可知,The Law of Life(人生准则)适合作本文最佳标题。故选D项。

The Garbage Project started at the University of Arizona in 1973. Since then, the students and teachers in it have studied the modern garbage in different cities.
To study the garbage, the students had to travel to landfills (填埋场) , the places where cities bury their garbage. While the students were studying the garbage they wore special clothes. Students were very careful when they opened bags of garbage.
One important thing the students have learned from studying the garbage is that the garbage in landfills disappears very slowly. That was surprising to both the students and many scientists who had thought that about 70 % of the garbage in landfills would disappear quickly. Even in cities where it rains a lot, the students found newspapers from 1948, 40-year-old hot dogs, and vegetables from 1970. And the students also found many more empty bottles of cola than they expected.
How to dispose of our garbage well depends on what kind of garbage it is: regular garbage, dangerous materials, or recyclable materials, such as newspapers and glass bottles. Regular garbage goes to regular landfills. Dangerous materials are harmful to people's health and the environment. They shouldn't go into regular landfills.
Homes are full of dangerous waste. One kind of the dangerous waste in homes is batteries. When batteries are buried directly in a landfill they often break open. The poison inside them moves through rain water to the bottom of the landfill. Then it can pollute the natural water in the ground.
Another dangerous waste from homes is motor oil. When people pour old motor oil on the ground or throw it in the garbage it pollutes the environment.
Our garbage problem is not new, but as the world's population continues to grow, it will become a bigger and bigger problem.

A. 1973 B. 1970 C. 1948 D. 1940

Last month, US National Academy of Sciences announced its new members. Chinese scientist Yan Ning, a 41-year-old biology professor at Princeton University, is one of them. Yan’s team found the structure (结构) of an important human protein (蛋白质) in 2014. They were the first people to find it. The protein may help scientists treat cancer.
Yan Ning studied at both Tsinghua University and Princeton University. Before the age of 30, she became the youngest professor at Tsinghua. Last year, she started to teach at Princeton. Her protein studies earned her many honors both in China and abroad. Yan’s power of concentration has helped her make these achievements. She said she used to spend 48 hours straight working in her lab, taking only short breaks to eat and nap. “Doing research is indeed hard and challenging,” Yan told people. “But the harder it is, the more fun I have.”
However, in her personal life, Yan is far from being the serious and boring type. She has a sense of humor and what seems like a young girl’s heart. She often posts on Weibo. And she is not afraid to express her opinions about things she doesn’t like. “Bravely be yourself.” She said.

The two goats looked at each other and each wished to pass over first.
They stood for a while one foot on the tree, each thinking that the other would turn back. But neither of them would give way, and they met at last on the middle of the narrow bridge!
They then began to push and fight with their horns, till at last their feet missed, and both the goats fell into the running river, and were lost in the water!
Both might have been saved, if either of them had known how to give way at the right time.

63. The writer mentioned the Cardinals to show that________ .
A. everyone believes in his law of life B. sports players know how to win
C. they have the same opinion as his D. teamwork is very important

When batteries are buried directly in a landfill, they often break open. The poison inside them moves through rain water to the bottom of the landfill. Then it can pollute the natural water in the ground.
Another dangerous waste from homes is motor oil. When people pour old motor oil on the ground or throw it in the garbage, it pollutes the environment.
Our garbage problem is not new, but as the world's population continues to grow, it will become a bigger and bigger problem.
