Traveling on an airplane can be a very tiring task even in the best of circumstances, which is why when Sophie Murphy boarded a recent flight from Sydney to Melbourne and noticed an awful “tension” in the cabin, she first thought it was caused by typical bad-tempered passengers. But as the flight neared its end, it became obvious that something was very wrong.
A teenage boy with Down syndrome(唐氏综合症)who was traveling with his family had become upset and would not return to his seat, regardless of the cabin crew's warnings over the loudspeaker when it was almost time to land. The pilot was forced to circle above the airport, delaying the landing and angering people on the already tense flight.
“If it was a cartoon, ” remembered Murphy, “there would have been smoke coming out of people's ears.”
As the boy's elderly parents and adult brothers and sisters tried to persuade him to get off the floor and back into his seat, but in vain, Murphy, 42, who had been a teacher for more than 20 years, stood up and quickly headed to the back of the plane.
She found the boy in the passage, lying on his belly, and lay down on her stomach to face him. She began chatting calmly with him, asking his name, his favorite book, and his favorite characters. He told her he felt sick and she tried to comfort him. Minutes later, he allowed her to hold his hand and then together they got properly back into airplane seats. Murphy asked for sick bags, and held them as the boy threw up several times, including on her. As she helped him clean up, she repeatedly told him everything would be okay and that they'd get through it together.
After the plane was finally able to land, no one was impatient to step off the flight as one might expect. Instead, calmed passengers--obviously following Murphy's amazing example--allowed the boy and his family to depart first, smiling at them as they passed. His parents tearfully thanked Murphy for what she had done, and a doctor sitting nearby also let her knew he had even taken notes on her expert way of handling the situation.
4. The landing was delayed because ________.
A. a family ignored the warnings
B. a boy refused to sit in his seat
C. smoke was coming out of the engine
D. the pilot was forced to change the destination
5. Murphy successfully handled the “awful tension” by________
A. fighting against unfair treatment
B. calling on other passengers to join her
C. communicating with the boy
D. asking an experienced doctor to help
6. What changed the angry passengers' attitude at last
A. The boy's improvement. B. The plane's safe landing.
C. The crew's behavior. D. The teacher's efforts.
7. Which of the following words can best describe Murphy
A. Generous and cautious. B. Patient and enthusiastic.
C. Wise and cooperative. D. Kind and cool-headed.

Before Avatar was reissued in China in March, Cameron was interviewed by China Daily. Cameron says that he has felt “truly incredible about what has happened in China”. He adds he feels impressive about Chinese film authorities' effort to promote local cinemas and bring people back to theaters.
“You guys (Chinese people) are leading the charge. That's fantastic. I love it that you've got the virus under control enough and you've got the economy recovering as well as cinema recovering.”
China took decisive action shortly after the COVID-19 outbreak earlier last year, enforcing a six-month-long closure of more than 75,000 screens in around 12,000 cinemas until it became safe again for moviegoers to return.
Driven by a bunch of Chinese films ranging from the patriotic anthology My People, My Homeland to the recent Spring Festival hit Hi, Mom, the country has seen an inspiring revival from the impact of the pandemic, becoming the world's largest movie market in terms of yearly box office gross since October last year.
“The Chinese film industry is growing in strength and ability to tell these Chinese stories at a world-class level,” says Cameron.
“I'm honored that they (referring to the China Film Administration and Chinese distributors) chose Avatar to be one of the films to sort of remind people what the cinematic experience is,” he adds.
He says the actual production of the four Avatar sequels started around three years ago — with a year and a half for performance capture, followed by the live action filming of the human characters. “But there's no cameras involved in the performance capture process. We're capturing data of the performances. That's how we bring those beautiful, big, blue Na'vi people to life,” says Cameron.
But he reveals that he has also seen the project delayed for four months due to the pandemic, and the good news is that the first Avatar sequel will be released in December 2022.
8. Which of the following is NOT the reason of the recovering of Chinese film industry
A. Chinese film authorities spare no effort to promote it.
B. Chinese people are fond of watching films.
C. Chinese people have controlled the virus well enough.
D. China took instant action to prevent the virus.
9. What can we learn about Avatar
A. The Avatar sequels started 4.5 years ago.
B. The live action filming is shot before performance capture.
C. The performance capture is finished vividly.
D. The project Avatar was never stopped even during the pandemic.
10. The attitude of Cameron towards the film industry of China is ________.
A humorous B. indifferent C. positive D. neutral
11. The passage is mainly about ________.
A. the reasons for Avatar being released smoothly in China
B. the view of Cameron on Chinese film industry
C. the present situation of Chinese film industry
D. the introduction to the release of Avatar

Can wine really improve our health and increase our life span Scientists are beginning to say "Yes!”
Researchers have found that red wines rich in flavonoids (类黄酮) are best for our health. Flavonoids are best known for their antioxidant (抗氧化) qualities and help the body resist viruses. Red wines also contain antioxidants, which help the body resist cancer and cardiovascular (心血管) disease. Red wines such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Syrah and Pinot Noir contain the highest concentrations of antioxidants and flavonoids. Other red wines, such as Merlots and Red Zinfandels, contain fewer flavonoids, but more than most white wines. So the best bet for drinking wine for our health is to stick to red wines containing more antioxidants and flavonoids.
Although white contains components that are central to good health, it doesn't mean that we can get drunk every night. Don't overdo it — but adding a glass of wine to your daily diet can definitely make a difference to your health. Paracelsus, the noted 16th-century Swiss physician, wrote, “Wine is a food, a medicine and a poison — it's just a question of how much you drink." Most health officials agree that one or two four-ounce glasses of wine per day can be beneficial to men, while women should limit their consumption to one four-ounce glass per day.
Cardiovascular expert, Professor Roger Corder, has spent years studying the evidence of health benefits from red wine. Specifically, he wondered why the French have a lower rate of heart discase, despite the fact that their diet is extremely rich in fats. He concentrated his research on the southwest portion of France, where life expectancy (平均寿命) seemed to be highest. He discovered that the region produces local wines, which contain the highest levels of antioxidants of any wines in the world. This led him to further research on the amazing medical benefits of red wine.
While wine may not be able to help a man escape from death or growing old, we certainly can consider adding a glass of wine or two to our daily diet.
12. The underlined word “bet” in the second paragraph, most probably means_______.
A. hope B. result C. choice D. deal
13. What does the author want to tell us in the third paragraph
A. Red wines are not always good for our health.
B. We need to control the amount of wine we drink.
C. Wine is as important as food and medicine.
D. Men need to drink more wine than women.
14. Why do the French have a lower rate of heart disease
A. Because they have a more balanced diet.
B. Because the region where they live has the best climate.
C. Because they drink more red wine than others.
D. Because the red wine they drink contains the highest levels of antioxidants.
15. What is the main idea of the passage
A. Which kind of red wine we should drink.
B. The amount of red wine we should drink.
C. The health benefits of red wine.
D. The history of red wine.

It is calculated by measuring the level of the oceans over long periods of time and under all types of weather conditions. ____16____ For instance, the height of Mount Everest is considered to be 29,028 feet (8,848 meters) above sea level.
____17____Other factors that cause changes include water temperature, air-pressure, seasons of the year, the presence of ice and snow, and the amount of salt in the water.
____18____Therefore, sea level can vary depending on where it is being measured in the world, and it is not a constant(常数).
____19____ One of these is for aviation (航空) where it is often important for a pilot to be able to determine his or her height above this level at any given time. Another important function of sea level is to determine how much the sea is rising due to factors such as the melting of the polar ice caps. Mostly, it is calculated in order to determine heights of geological formations (地质建造)and land.
____20____ Death Valley, California, for instance, is 282 feet (85.5 meters)below sea level, and there are many other similar locations, throughout the world. The Dead Sea is the lowest of these, measuring an amazing 1,371 feet(418 meters) below sea level.

Jatin and his younger sister, Neha, lived with their parents in a poor neighborhood. Their mother was very sick and their father was struggling to find a job, and they had only a little money with which to buy food. As they had not paid the rent for several months, the landlord was breathing down their necks (盯着他们).
One day, Jatin took Neha's shoes to a shoe repairman to be fixed, but he lost them on the way home. It wasn't until he got home that he realized he had lost the shoes. He was afraid that his parents would be angry and disappointed. So he begged his sister to keep it secret. Neha agreed and the two decided to share Jatin' s running shoes. Neha's school hours were in the morning, so she would wear them first. After school, she would rush back and give them to Jatin. He could then run to his school, which began in the afternoon. Although he ran as fast as he could, Jatin often arrived late and was warned by the school.
A long distance race was going to be held for the boys in the city. When Jatin learned that the third prize was a new pair of shoes, he decided to take part. He ran home excitedly and promised his sister that he would win her the new shoes.
The day of race arrived. Jatin had a strong start, but halfway through the race he began to get tired and his legs began to ache. Getting more and more exhausted he thought only of Neha and his promise to her. Dreaming of the new shoes he would win for his sister gave him strength, and he stayed right behind the two fastest runners, determined to finish third.
【答案】4. B 5. C 6. D 7. D

Sea level, also referred to as mean(平均的) sea level is the level at which the oceans exist when averaged between high and low tides.
A. The measurement of mean sea level has many uses.
B. These devices measure the average height of the sea.
C. The actual level of the sea is constantly changing as tides rise and fall.

第二节(满分25分)

Suddenly, as the finish line drew near, another runner collided(碰撞) with Jatin from behind and Jatin fell on the ground.

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】Paragraph 1:
Jatin looked up and he saw the other boys rushing ahead. Refusing to give up at this final and key point, Jatin struggled to jump to his feet and ran as fast as he could, though it was so painful for him. Eventually, he was the fourth one to dash across the finish line. Jatin couldn't help sobbing at the thought of letting his sister down. But much to his surprise, the judge announced the third didn’t belong to the runner who collided with Jatin because he broke the rule and Jatin won the third prize. Jatin felt overjoyed and relieved during the award ceremony, holding the shoes close to his chest.
Paragraph 2:
Filled with pleasure, Jatin walked home in no time. He could not wait to see his sister and share the good news. On his arrival, Jatin found Neha was walking about outside nervously and anx- iously. “Neha, see what I have got for you." Jatin said excitedly, taking the prize out of his bag with his trembling hands. The instant Neha saw the shoes, her face lit up. “Thank you! Jatin." Tears of joy welled up in their eyes as the brother and the sister hugged tightly together.
