Sharon, Aged 22
The most important thing to keep in mind when going into high school is to be yourself. Besides, I don’t know what your middle school was like, but high school teachers will not care about things such as how much homework you already have in one night. It’s best to just learn to deal with things and manage your time wisely so you can achieve everything you need to.
Frank, Aged 21
I think almost every kid feels both nervous and excited before their first day. You will probably love it. I know I did. You should join in some sports or activities that will make your high school experience more enjoyable. Good luck!
David, Aged 19
I’m not going to lie. The first day is kind of frightening. But you’ll get used to it. Don’t be afraid of anyone; upperclassmen will pick on you more if you let them know you’re afraid. Just take it easy. Making some friends and staying with them will greatly help you get used to high school quickly. After the first week it’s really not bad at all. Don’t worry.
Eddie ,Aged 20
When I started high school I was really nervous too, especially since I had been homeschooled all through middle school and didn’t really know anyone. I suppose the best advice would be to just relax. The first couple of days can be a little bit hard, but things will become easier before you know it.
1. What can we infer from Sharon’s words about high school
A. Teachers are quite strict. B. Students often stay up at night
C. Teachers provide little care for students. D. Students should make good use of their time.
2. Who mentions the importance of friends
A. David B. Frank
C. Sharon D. Eddie
3. How did Eddie feel on his first day of high school
A. Excited B. Worried
C. Bored D. Relaxed

Football is my favorite sport. I loved to watch it, but I had never played in a football game before I went to college. I lacked self-confidence and I doubted if I could do well in a team, which was why I hardly did sports together with others. I just loved practicing playing football in the backyard of my house.
About one month after I went to college, one day some of my classmates said they'd play a football game with some players of another class. I really looked forward to it but never thought I'd join them to play. That day finally came and I went to watch with my classmates. However, just about ten minutes after the game started, one member of our football team got injured and could no longer play. The other members looked worried. Then one of them came to me and asked, “Can you play ” At first, I shook my head, but then I nodded. “Great! Come and play,” he said. I followed him, having no idea at all what to do. To my joy, he asked me to play in defense (防守). Defense was my favorite because I found it more fun and less complicated (复杂的). Then the game began again. There weren't a lot of big kids on the offensive line (攻击线) of the other team and I suddenly gained some self-confidence. About five minutes later, the ball was kicked toward the guard. I thought it was a good opportunity for me. I quickly ran past the guard and got the ball. When the guard came to the offensive line, I kicked the ball. I scored and all my classmates cheered. You may not believe it, but I scored twice that time. The final score was 6—2 and we won. My teammates thought that I did very well and none of them believed I hadn't played in a game before.
That game really changed me. I am a really confident person now and often play football games with my teammates.
4. Why didn't the author play sports with others before
A. He wasn't interested in sports. B. He wasn't popular with others.
C. He couldn't afford time for sports. D. He wasn't confident about his ability.

D. fell in love with joining others in playing football

As the world around them is changing, teenagers continue to need guidance and support from both parents. Studies show that teens who have an active relationship with their fathers are less likely(可能的) to involve themselves in dangerous behaviors and more likely to succeed in school and develop higher self-worth, because their fathers go beyond social expectations to devote attention to them.
Peer(同龄人)pressure has always been a big part of the teens’ experience. Even the best father can’t completely protect their kids from the growing influence of their peer group. However, studies show that teenagers whose fathers focus on their lives are more likely to resist (抵抗)the more bad effects of peer pressure, taking drugs, for example.
Teens may not like to admit it, but they are watching their parents closely and often follow their example. An interesting finding explains just how important parents are, especially Dad. Swiss researchers discovered that if Dad attends church, even though Mom doesn't, 44 percent of the kids are still more likely to keep going to church as adults. But if Mom goes regularly and Dad never shows up, only 2 percent of the kids continue to attend.Teenagers face a lot of difficult choices, especially in their later teens. Fathers don’t get to make those choices for them, but they can be influenced. For example, teenagers can learn a lot from their parents' concern on what to do when they finish high school. Should they go directly to college and, if so, where Should they consider going to trade schools, joining the army or looking for a job A father's guidance brings a long-term perspective that teens often lack to these important decisions.
7. Teenagers without father’s focus are more likely to ________.
A. have higher self-worth B. experience some dangerous things
C. become the best students in school D. resist all bad effects of peer pressure
8 What does the third paragraph tell us
A. More teenagers pay no attention to their parents
B. Teenagers often treat their fathers as role models
C. Teenagers never attend church with their mothers
D. Fewer teenagers like to attend church with their fathers
9. Which can replace the underlined word "perspective" in the last paragraph
A. point of view B. job
C. school D. lots of concern
10. What can we learn from the text
A. Fathers should make choices for teenagers directly
B. Teenagers care less about what their parents do
C. Mothers have no effect on their children’s life
D. Teenagers are greatly influenced by their fathers
【答案】7. B 8. B 9. A 10. D

C. Teachers provide little care for students. D. Students should make good use of their time.

Defense was my favorite because I found it more fun and less complicated (复杂).

8. What does the third paragraph tell us
A. More teenagers pay no attention to their parents
B. Teenagers often treat their fathers as role models
C. Teenagers never attend church with their mothers
D. Fewer teenagers like to attend church with their fathers
9. Which can replace the underlined word "perspective" in the last paragraph
A. point of view B. job
C. school D. lots of concern
10. What can we learn from the text
A. Fathers should make choices for teenagers directly
B. Teenagers care less about what their parents do
C. Mothers have no effect on their children’s life
D Teenagers are greatly influenced by their fathers
