Generally speaking, newly born babies are not beautiful. They are wrinkled(多皱的)or hairless, or they have an angry look on their face. They seem to say, “Get away! I hate everybody.” But to a parent, that hairless, wrinkled, angry-faced baby is the most beautiful and perfect child in the world. When that proud father or mother asks you, “Well, what do you think…isn’t she beautiful ” What are you going to say Is this the time for the truth Of course not!
You look that father in the eye and say, “Yes, she is! She is really a beauty. She’s one in a million. She’s going to be a movie star! I can tell! She’s as beautiful as a picture.”
In English, this is a white lie. White lies don’t hurt people. They are not cruel or angry words. People use them to make a difficult thing a little easier. When people don’t want to meet someone, or eat something new that they really don’t like at a friend’s house, they tell a white lie. They are trying to be kind. They feel that being polite is sometimes more important. A doctor tells white lie in order to make a patient feel that his health is not so worse and then the patient may become optimistic.
From what is said above, we may draw a conclusion that we should not treat white lies as obstacles in life, and that sometimes telling a lie should not be associated with the issue of being dishonest. Some white lies can encourage you to be better.
24. What purpose does the first paragraph serve
A. To emphasize the beauty of newly born babies.
B. To show parents’ selfless devotion to their children.
C. To introduce the topic of a special kind of lie.
D. To use examples to prove lies are common in daily life.
25. Parents are usually when their new babies are born.
A. impatient B. tired C. delighted D. careless
26. The underlined word “white” in the last paragraph means “ ” .
A. kind B. impolite C. the white color D. angry
27. Which of the following is a white lie
A. You tell a parent that the newly-born baby is ugly.
B. Your friend’s bag isn’t beautiful but you say it is.
C. You broke the window but you say you didn’t.
D. You tell your friend that her new haircut is terrible.

By now, most people know they should be eating more vegetables. But are there ways to get more from the vegetables you already eat A research shows that when it comes to vegetables, it's not only how much we eat, but also how we prepare them, that decides the vitamins and other nutrients that enter our body.
Many studies show that people who eat lots of vegetables have less heart disease, and eye problems and even cancer. But raw vegetables are not always best. The researchers found that 198 Germans who eat raw food were short of lycopene, the matter found in tomatoes and other red vegetables. “There is an idea that raw foods are always going to be better,” says Steven K. Clinton, a professor at Ohio State University. “For fruits and vegetables, sometimes a little bit of cooking can be helpful.”
A number of factors decide how the vegetables do good to people's health before they reach the table, including where and how they were grown and stored before being bought. No single cooking way is best. Some nutrients are easily lost in cooking if they are cooked in different ways.
Vitamins C and B are often lost. In January another report said that boiling was better for carrots than frying or serving them raw. Frying was the worst way to cook.
What cooked with the vegetables can also be important When the vegetables were cooked with fat, the diners can get more nutrients. Fat can also make the taste of vegetables better, meaning that people will eat more of them. Putting on some other things that make it taste better—a little salt—can make the food taste better.
28. The writer mainly wants to tell us that ________.
A. people should eat more vegetables B. the way people eat vegetables is important
C. eating vegetables is good for us D. how much vegetables one should eat
29. The people who eat the raw vegetables for a long time will ________.
A. have the eyes problems B. have heart disease
C. be in need of lycopene D. hate eating tomatoes
30. The following decide how the vegetables do good to people EXCEPT ________.
A. the place where the vegetables are grown B. the way how the vegetables are stored
C. the way how the vegetables are prepared D. the price at which the vegetable are sold
31. From the last paragraph, we can know ________.
A. it's better to cook vegetables with the fat
B. the more fat in the cooking, the fewer vegetables people will eat
C. it's better to cook the vegetables without salt
D the fat will increase the nutrition of the vegetables

Chinese students always complain that they’re under great pressure and don’t get enough sleep. But they may be surprised to learn that they’re much luckier than their peers in South Korea and Japan, according to a recently published report, conducted by Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences on the physical and mental health of senior high school students in the three Asian countries.
According to the study among nearly 6000 high school students in the three countries, Chinese students are the tallest but poorest in physical fitness. Chinese students are on average 168.17cm, compared with 167.61cm for South Korean students and 164.70cm for Japanese students. Chinese students asked for sick leave more than students in other countries. About 72 percent of Korean students never asked for sick and injury leave during high school, compared to 53 percent for Japanese students and 45 percent for Chinese students. Moreover, Chinese students drink alcohol and smoke earlier than Korean and Japanese students. Around 70 percent of Chinese students have drunk alcohol, compared to 50 percent for Korean and Japanese students.
According to the survey, Japanese and South Korean students suffer more pressure than their Chinese peers. Statistics show 16 percent of students in China said they experienced mental pressure often over the past year, while the numbers in Japan and South Korea were 33 percent and 47 percent respectively. Their worries come from “study”, “future after graduation”, “friendships” and “relationship with their parents”. To go with stress, 57.9 percent of Korean students sleep the least, less than six hours a day, compared with 46.6 percent of Japanese students and 30 percent of Chinese students.
More Chinese students were satisfied with their physical appearance, double that of students in the survey from Japan and South Korea. The report said that over half of students in South Korea had tried to lose weight in the past year, while in China the figure was only 22 percent. In measures of self-worth, such as “I think I am valuable” and “I think I am successful”, “I can complete many things”, “I won’t give up to failure,” Chinese students showed greater self-confidence than students in Japan and South Korea.
32. What’s the main idea of the second paragraph
A. Chinese teenagers are tallest, but most unhealthy.
B. Chinese students drink most alcohol and smoke earliest.
C. Japanese students ask for least sick leave.
D. Chinese students ask for sick leave most often.
33. What can be inferred from the passage
A. Chinese students are luckiest, yet most unsuccessful.
B. Chinese students are confident in themselves and luckier.
C. Japanese students are most stressed.
D. South Korean students sleep the least.
34. What does the underlined word “that” in the last paragraph refer to

Group Visits to the Exhibition & Tour部分Exhibition: Monday - Sunday 9:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m.

C 25. C 26. A 27. B

In January, another report said that boiling was better for carrots than frying or serving them raw.
D. the fat will increase the nutrition of the vegetables
B 29. C 30. D 31. A

According to the study among nearly 6,000 high school students in the three countries, Chinese students are the tallest but poorest in physical fitness.
34 What does the underlined word “that” in the last paragraph refer to
A. The height. B. The percentage. C. The weight. D. The number.
35. The worries that cause students to be stressed come from the following factors EXCEPT ________.
A. study and career B. physical appearance C. friendships D. family relationship
A 33. B 34. D 35. B

根据第二段“According to the study among nearly 6,000 high school students in the three countries, Chinese students are the tallest but poorest in physical fitness. 【解析】
【分析】本文是说明文。介绍的是放假时选择待在家里休息这一种新的放松方式。作者介绍了在家休息的好处和如何让在家休息变得有趣的几个方法。
【36题详解】
根据下一句“As a new word, staycation refers to people staying at home during their vacation time”(作为一个新的单词,在家休息是指人们在休假的时候呆在家里,)可知,上句是要引出这个“在家休息”这个新单词。
根据上一句“ There are shortcomings to every positive thing, however.”(然而任何积极的事情都有缺点,)可知,下文说明呆在家里的缺点,以及“You also might prevent yourself from enjoying things to the fullest,”(你也可能阻止自己尽情享受),D项:如果你是在家休息,你可能会接到工作单位的电话。符合文意,且D项中的“also might prevent”与上文一致,故选D。
根据下一句“It means you won’t be available for work or other activities.”(这意味着你将无法工作或进行其他活动。)
根据下一句“You would have done it on a vacation, right Treat yourself to this, at least for one day! ”(你会在每一个假期都会这样去做,对吗?至少有一天这样对待你自己!)可知,这是第二条的建议,让在家休息有趣。A项:每一餐都在外面吃饭。符合文意。选项言简意赅,短小精悍。故选A。
根据上一句“The most important thing to remember is to do things that make you and your family excited!”(最重要的是去做会让你和你的家人兴奋的事!)F项:确保所有的一切都很开心。
