We need you guys to do the same thing tonight. I want everything you're going to bring put out in the living room before you go to bed. Before you pack everything though, you need to put aside the clothes for tomorrow. I don't want to wait for you to search for other clothes or to unpack your bag to get something. Our flight is at 7:00 am, and it will take about a half hour to get to the airport from here. We'll probably need another hour to get through security. Also, I know I said that we would go out for our meal tonight, but there is just too much to do. I asked your father to pick up some Chinese food for dinner instead. I can't be bothered to cook something since I just cleaned everything. If you want a specific dish at the restaurant, you will need to call your father. Otherwise, he will just pick up something that we can all share. Are you clear on everything I said?

On February 22, 2021, cancer survivor Hayley Areeneaux was selected to be one of four crew members of the SpaceX Inspiration4 — the world’s first civilian astronaut mission. The 29-year-old will make history as the youngest American — and the first with a false limb — to travel to space.
Hayley’s space dreams began two decades ago, following a visit to the NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. However, the young girl’s dreams were derailed a year later when she was diagnosed with osteosarcoma — a type of bone cancer.
Fortunately, the fatal disease had been caught early and the experts at St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis were able to reduce its spread through chemotherapy and by replacing the diseased bones with metal rods (杆) in her left leg. Arceneaux said she never thought she would be able to go to space. But when the call came “out of the blue” from Jared Isaacman, CEO and founder of Shift4 Payments, asking her if she would like to go to space, she said without hesitation, “Yes, yes, absolutely!”
Isaacman had always intended to go to space. Hence when SpaceX announced the world’s first all-commercial astronaut mission, the 37-year-old billionaire, instantly booked the available four seats. The flying enthusiast announced that he would donate three seats to members of the general public. Hayley, the first crew member to be announced, will represent the pillar (支柱) of “hope” — a nod to her survival of cancer and frontline work as a physician at St. Jude. The remaining passengers, representing the pillars of “generosity” and “prosperity”, will be chosen randomly to raise $200 million for St. Jude, which treats children at no charge.
Before the mission launch later this year, the crew will undergo intense training. The mission, which will orbit Earth every 90 minutes, will be carefully monitored by SpaceX mission control scientists from Earth. Upon the mission’s completion, the Dragon will reenter Earth’s atmosphere for a soft water landing off the coast of Florida.
24. What do you know about Hayley Arceneaux

A new UBC Okanagan study finds children not only gain the benefits of working with therapy (治疗) dogs – they enjoy it too.
“While we do frequently see children improve in therapy dog programs, we didn’t have data to support that they enjoyed the time as well,” says Nicole Harris, who conducted this research while a master’s student in the School of Education.
The research saw 22 children from the Okanagan Boys and Girls Club take part in a series of sessions to help them build their social skills. Over six weeks, the children were accompanied by therapy dogs as they completed lessons. Each week the children were taught a new skill, such as introducing themselves or giving directions to others. The children would first practice with their assigned therapy dog before running through the exercise with the rest of the group. In the final phase, the children, accompanied by their new furry friend, would practice their new skills with university students located in the building.
“Therapy dogs are often able to reach children and facilitate their growth in surprising ways. We saw evidence of this in the social skills of children when they were paired with a therapy dog,” says Dr. John-Tyler Binfet, associate professor in the School of Education and director of BARK. “The dogs helped create a non-threatening climate while the children were learning these new skills. By interacting with them, the children’s moods improved and their engagement in their lessons increased.” While the children were learning and practising their new skills, the research team collected data.
At the end of the six weeks, Harris interviewed eight children, aged 5 to 11 years old, who regularly attended the sessions. Each child indicated the social skill-training program with therapy dogs was an enjoyable and positive experience and the dogs were a meaningful and essential part of the program.
As a full-time elementary school teacher, Harris notes that schools have become increasingly important in helping students develop social and emotional skills, and this research could contribute to the development of future school-based or after-school programs.
28. What was Harris’s research meant to explore
A. When and how children could learn new social skills well.
B. Whether working with therapy dogs was pleasant to kids.
C. Why therapy dogs benefited kids’ learning of social skills.
D. What helped children learn and practice new social skills.
29. What does the underlined word “facilitate” in paragraph 4 mean
A. Promote. B. Maintain. C. Influence. D. Determine.
30. What do we know about the process of the research
A. The behavior of 22 children aged 5 to 11 was recorded.
B. The participants were taught a skill and tested 6 weeks later.
C. University students were also involved to help with the study.
D. Most participants were interviewed at the end of the research.
31. What does Harris think of the research
A. It’s an important part of elementary school education.
B. It should be carried out in elementary school separately.
C. It can help develop students’ social and emotional skills.
D. It serves as reference for developing school programs.
B 29. A 30. C 31. D

Improvements to energy efficiency, such as LED lights, are seen by many authorities as a top priority for cutting carbon emissions. Yet a growing body of research suggests that a rebound effect could wipe out more than half of the savings from energy efficiency improvements, making the goals of the Paris Agreement on climate change even harder to hit.
A team led by Paul Brockway at the University of Leeds, UK, looked at the existing 33 studies on the impact of the rebound effect. First comes the direct rebound: for instance, when someone buys a more efficient car, they may take advantage of that by driving it further. Then comes the indirect rebound: fuel savings leave the owner with more money to spend elsewhere in the economy, consuming energy.
Although the 33 studies used different methods to model the rebound effect, they produced very consistent estimates of its impact, leading the team to conclude that the effect wipes out, on average, 63 percent of the anticipated energy savings.
“We're not saying energy efficiency doesn't work. What we're saying is rebound needs to be taken more seriously,” says Brockway.
The idea that increased efficiency may not deliver the hoped for savings dates back to the Jevons paradox(悖论), named after the economist William Stanley Jevons, who, in 1865,observed that more efficient coal use led to more demand for coal.
If the rebound effect does prove to be as big as suggested, it means future global energy demand will be higher than expected and the world will need far more wind and solar power and carbon capture technology than is currently being planned for.
But that doesn't mean nothing can be done to limit the rebound effect. One answer is to double down on energy efficiency and do twice as much to achieve the same effect.
32. Which of the following is a rebound effect
A. A man uses LED lights to cut carbon emissions.
B. A company uses coal more efficiently to reduce waste.
C. A family saves money by using energy saving devices.
D. A lady spends savings from her fuel efficient car on more clothes.
33. How did Paul Brockway's team carry out their research
A. By interviewing economists.
B. By analyzing former studies.
C. By modeling the rebound effect.
D. By debating about the Jevons paradox.
34. What would Paul Brockway probably agree with
A. Authorities should dismiss energy efficiency.
B. Worldwide efforts to preserve energy are in vain.
C. The rebound effect helps protect the environment.
D. More attention should be paid to the rebound effect.
35. What's the author's attitude towards limiting the rebound effect
A. Positive. B. Pessimistic.
C. Doubtful. D. Disapproving.
D 33. B 34. D 35. A

根据第二段“Then comes the indirect rebound: fuel savings leave the owner with more money to spend elsewhere in the economy, consuming energy.(然后是间接反弹:节省的燃料使车主有更多的钱花在其他经济领域,消耗能源。)”
根据第三段“Although the 33 studies used different methods to model the rebound effect,(尽管这33项研究使用了不同的方法来模拟反弹效应,)”中的model the rebound effect可知,研究团队是通过模拟回弹效应进行他们的研究的。
根据第四段““We're not saying energy efficiency doesn't work. What we're saying is rebound needs to be taken more seriously,” says Brockway.(Brockway说:“我们并不是说能源效率不起作用,我们的意思是需要更加认真地对待经济反弹。”)”
根据最后一段“But that doesn't mean nothing can be done to limit the rebound effect. One answer is to double down on energy efficiency and do twice as much to achieve the same effect.(但这并不意味着我们不能采取任何措施来限制反弹效应。一个解决办法是加倍提高能源效率,并采取双倍的措施来达到同样的效果。)”中的双重否定句可知,作者对于限制反弹效应是持积极(positive)态度的,并提出了对应的解决办法。故选A项。

Over the past ten months of pandemic life, cooking has become a shelter for me. New York Times food editor Sam Sifton referred to Korean fried rice and said it "improves moods, atmospheres and weeks alike". ____36____ I'd argue it improves physical health, finances and skills, and reduces stress. Really, cooking is a rewarding thing you should do these days.
Cooking food for yourself is beneficial to your physical health. When you cook your own food, you control exactly what goes into your body. It's the best possible way to “dial in” or clean up your diet. ____37____ A recent survey has found that twice as many Americans are cooking at home than a year ago, and that nearly a quarter are doing so in an effort to eat healthier.
____38____ It's considerably cheaper than ordering from restaurants, or buying prepared food from supermarkets. It's found that ordering takeout is five times more expensive. The difference is more obvious if you’re cooking for a family.
In terms of improving cooking skill, you can't help but improve if you do it over and over again. 【
故填is reflected。
故填which。
故填has developed。
分析句子结构可知,此处考查的是it is adj. to do sth,所以空格处要填形容词。

Everything about moving day was a puzzle. I didn't know anything about our new building on a new street. Our old life was broken into pieces and packed up in piled boxes. I wondered if it would ever fit back together again.
Mom introduced me to our new neighbours, the Chens. Mrs Chen worked with Mom at the job she'd just started. Mr Chen was a famous craftsman(匠人) from China.
Mom said it was a fresh start, but it felt broken to me. I just wanted things to go back to how they had been before.
After the first day at my new school, I walked home alone. Mom had told me she had to work. I was still hoping she'd meet me after the bell. I had to open the door myself with the new key. I felt a bit hungry and went straight into the kitchen, ripping tape from the packed boxes while I searched for a clean plate. My fingers slipped, and something went crashing to the ground.
“Benjamin” cried Mom from the doorway. I didn't hear her come in. “What just broke ” she asked, kneeling to pick up the pieces. In her hands, I recognized the shattered pieces. It was Grandma's bowl. “I can't believe you broke this,” she said.
“Well, I can't believe we have to live here now! I can't believe I have to switch schools, and I can't believe you didn't even meet me after my first day” I ran into my room, slamming the door behind me.
The broom swept across the kitchen floor. Then the click of Mom's bedroom door closed behind her. I sneaked out into the kitchen and found the fragments in the dustbin. There were so many pieces in here, but maybe I could put them back together. Turning the pieces, I tried to match them, but this bowl would never look the same again.
“I'm sorry I yelled,” said Mom, as she opened her door. “Please just throw out the pieces. We can't make a fresh start with broken things.”
As I wandered down the hall, Mr Chen was emptying his garbage.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
Paragraph 1:
“Are you sure you want to throw that out ” he asked.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 2:
I brought the repaired bowl into her room.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 1:
“Are you sure you want to throw that out ” he asked. My throat twisted into a knot. “It's broken,” I murmured. “That's a simple e.” In their apartment, Mr Chen spread the broken pieces out like a jigsaw puzzle. After finding each match, he taught me to delicately rebuild the bowl, filling in the crack lines with a special paint. Finally, the bowl was together again. I held it gently in the palm of my hand and admired it for long. Slightly different, it was as beautiful as before. I couldn't wait to show it to Mom and rushed back home.
Paragraph 2:
I brought the repaired bowl into her room. Obviously, she was more than surprised to see the bowl again. “It's amazing” she marveled, running her fingertip over the fixed cracks. “Mr Chen helped me mend it. He is a superb craftsman,” I said with a grin. “Definitely. After being repaired, it looks much stronger than before” said Mom, smiling radiantly. I sat on the edge of her bed, and Mom reached out to me. Our hands joined with crisscrossed fingers, we both knew this was a new beginning.

D What helped children learn and practice new social skills.

32 Which of the following is a rebound effect
