Forrest Gump
The 1994 movie which was based on the book by Winston Groom won six Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Actor for the star Tom Hanks. Although the movie's critical and box-office success gave the book a huge boost, it's the film that made its mark on pop culture history.

Field of Dreams
It’s hard to describe the plot of this movie: Ray Kinsella hears a voice telling him to build a baseball field in his Iowa cornfield, and what happens next explores the themes of lost dreams, childhood heroes, and healing the pain of the past. The 1989 movie adherest W. P. Kinsella's 1982 original, Shoeless Joe, but cuts out some extra characters.

B
Math had never been something I was good at since middle school. Classes became harder in high school, and I was even further from a math teacher’s dream student. So at the start of my freshman year, I had an aversion to math. It wasn’t that I didn’t want to do well, but simply that I didn’t think I was able to do well. “I can’t” became my state of mind in all things related (有关) to math.
However, I was soon to learn that “I can’t” was not a choice in Mr. A’s class.
Mr. A always greeted (迎接) us with open arms as he said, “Welcome! Smile! It’s a great day to be alive! It was clear that Mr. A had a true passion (热情) not only for math but for teaching. If Mr. A ever experienced bad days in life, he never showed it. Mr. A greeted us with that same smile every day. He encouraged each student, from the top achiever to the “I can’t” student.
I found myself looking forward to math class, although I still hated the subject itself. Being in Mr. A’s presence made me feel good, as if I had the chance to succeed. As the year progressed, I spent increasingly more time on my homework, and I met with Mr. A weekly. My classmates began to do the same, and it became “cool” to have lunch and talk with Mr. A. We didn’t know it at the time, but he was changing our attitudes (态度).
Though my story is not one of overnight success and I didn’t become a straight-A math student, my hard work did begin to pay off and my grades slowly began to climb. There were hard times, of course. Difficult math questions sometimes succeeded in bringing me down, but Mr. A kept reminding (提醒) me, “Kate, smile! It’s a great day to be alive!”
4. What does the underlined word"aversion"in paragraph 1 probably mean
A. Interest B. Responsibility.
C. Dislike D. Misunderstanding.
5. What first made the author look forward to math class
A. Mr. A’s attitude. B. He interest in math.
C. Her friends’ encouragement. D. The top achievers in her class.
6. How did the author feel about her talk over lunch with Mr. A
A. It was straight. B. It was awkward.
C. It was challenging. D. It was impressive.
7. How did the author change in math
A. She made slow progress.
B. She fell in love with math.
C. She became a straight-A math student.
D. She became comfortable with difficult math questions.
C
In the movie Alice in Wonderland, Alice comes across a Cheshire cat and asks the cat which road she should take. The cat responds, “Well, that depends on where you're trying to get to.” Alice replies, “I don't know.” The cat responds, “Then any road will do.”
You see, knowing where you're going increases your chances dramatically of getting there, and there is no better way of "GETTING THERE" than setting your goals for the upcoming year. Think of your goals as destinations and the action steps as your GPS guiding and directing you. If you are like many other people, for years you have resisted the need to set goals and even laughed at the thought that setting goals and, even more importantly, committing them to writing have positive effects on your life. However, a closer look might convince you that setting goals is a sensible thing to do.
In 1979, a class of Harvard MBA students was asked: Have you set clear, written goals for your future and made an action plan to accomplish them The following will astonish you. Only 3 percent of the class had written goals and a plan in place, 13% just had goals, and an amazing 84% had no specific goals at all.
Ten years later the members of the class were interviewed once again and the following results will no doubt give the reason for our setting goals. The findings were that the 13% who had goals were earning, on average, twice as much as the 84% who had no goals at all. And the 3% percent who had clear, written goals with a plan to achieve them were achieving ten times as much as the entire 97% combined.
Goal setting will increase your chances of arriving successfully at your destination. Remember, always set SMART goals. Goals should be: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-bound!
8. Why does the author mention Alice in Wonderland
A. To criticize those with no goals. B. To show its popularity.
C. To recommend it to readers. D. To introduce the topic.
9. What does the underlined word "them" refer to
A. Goals. B. Effects. C. People. D. Action steps.
10. What did the second interview find out
A. People with goals were certain to succeed. B. Action helped with the realization of goals.
C. People with goals earned the most. D. The income gap among students was bigger.
11. Which of the following can best serve as the title
A. Why we set goals. B. Who can achieve success.
C. What an action plan is. D. How to set SMART goals.
D
When your pen is broken, the batteries (电池) in your toys run out, or you have some leftover food, what will you do with these things You will probably throw them all into one bin. But actually, all of these pieces of rubbish need to be sorted (分类) separately.
Rubbish sorting is a big problem worldwide. In recent years, some Chinese cities have been working hard on it. Shanghai has worked with Alipay to create a “green account (账户)” service. Account owners get points by correctly sorting their rubbish. Through the Alipay app, they can exchange the points for milk, phone cards or other products. The city is asking all people living there to sort their rubbish into four groups: wet, recyclable, harmful and dry.
Wet waste is something you don't want but that pigs can eat. Plastics, glass, paper and other things that can be reused are recyclable waste. Harmful waste includes things like medicine, batteries and bulbs. Finally, any waste that’s not wet, recyclable or harmful will go in the “dry waste” bin.
Many other Chinese cities are also sorting their rubbish in this way. For example, Shenzhen has been doing this since 2012. Students there also receive waste-sorting guidebooks that they must study.
In fact, there are still many workers specially working for sorting rubbish by hand in China. There is still a long way to go. But it’s never too late for every Chinese to learn how to sort rubbish properly and protect the environment.
If you don't sort your rubbish, all of it will go to a landfill (垃圾填埋场) and be buried together.
These landfills can take up much ground that could be used for planting. The electronic waste you throw away, such as batteries or used mobile phones, can cause pollution. Other pieces of rubbish, like the metal part of a pen, can be used to make other things if they are properly recycled.
12. Shanghai creates the “green account” service in order to ________.
A. work with the Alipay app. B. punish those who don't sort rubbish.
C. exchange useful products. D. encourage people to sort their rubbish.
13. After drinking up the milk, you can put the milk box into a “________ waste” bin.
A. wet. B. recyclable.
C. harmful. D. dry.
14. The last paragraph is mainly about ________.
A. why we should sort rubbish properly.
B. where our rubbish can be dealt with.
C. how some waste can be recycled.
D. what waste can cause pollution.
15. Which is NOT TRUE about rubbish sorting in China according to this passage
A. There is still a long way to go in rubbish sorting.
B. There are many workers sorting rubbish by hand.
C Students have to take waste-sorting classes in school.
D. Shenzhen has been doing rubbish sorting for nine years.

Math had never been something I was good at since middle school. Classes became harder in high school, and I was even further from a math teacher’s dream student. So at the start of my freshman year, I had an aversion to math. It wasn’t that I didn’t want to do well, but simply that I didn’t think I was able to do well. “I can’t” became my state of mind in all things related (有关的) to math.

10. What did the second interview find out
A. People with goals were certain to succeed. B. Action helped with the realization of goals.
C. People with goals earned the most. D. The income gap among students was bigger.
11. Which of the following can best serve as the title

C. harmful. D. dry.

D. what waste can cause pollution.
15. Which is NOT TRUE about rubbish sorting in China according to this passage

D. Shenzhen has been doing rubbish sorting for nine years.
