Everyone can be angry. But if you take the time to actually examine your anger instead of just “feeling angry” you’ll have a better understanding of yourself. Knowing why you feel so angry can provide you with some surprising answers. These answers can enable you to grow spiritually and mentally.
I can give you a personal example. I went to a meeting once and I was verbally attacked(言语攻击) over an application I supported at my workplace. Various people went on and on about how terrible this system was and that it never worked. That didn’t bother me that much. But I was absolutely furious at the comment, “Your job is pointless.”
I was upset that they would treat me that way. But once I took the time to think about what was really making me so mad, I learned a lot. I realized that the comment was more true than I wanted to admit. In the big scheme of things, my job was pointless. It wasn’t what I really wanted to be doing with my life and this is what frustrated me the most. Here I was pouring part of my heart and soul into a job I didn't even want to do. I was using it as crutch(依靠) because I didn’t have the confidence in myself to take the scary(令人害怕的) road toward what I really wanted to do. As soon as I realized that, a lot of my anger just melted away. I also realized that I needed to start focusing on what I really wanted to do.
I now consider this incident as a great gift. It got me back on track to move in the direction I want to go with my life. I probably wouldn't be where I am today if I hadn’t taken the time to figure out why I was really so angry.
4. What does the underlined word “furious” probably mean
A. Surprised. B. Relaxed.
C. Amazed. D. Angry.
5. Why did the author admit that his work was pointless
A. Because he didn’t do his job wholeheartedly.
B. Because he didn’t make enough money.
C. Because he couldn’t get on well with his colleagues.
D. Because he didn’t have the chance to realize his potential.
6. What can we infer from the last paragraph
A. The author isn’t easy to become angry any longer.
B. The author has achieved success in his present career.
C. The author received a lot of gifts after the incident.
D. The author was forced to quit his job.
7. Where is this text most likely from
A. A diary. B. A guidebook. C. A magazine. D. A novel.
D 5. A 6. B 7. C
根据前一句“That didn’t bother me that much.(这并不会让我很烦恼)”以及本句的But可知,本句以前一句存在转折关系。 A. Surprised.吃惊的;B. Relaxed.放松的;C. Amazed.吃惊的;D. Angry.
根据第三自然段“It wasn’t what I really wanted to be doing with my life and this is what frustrated me the most.(这不是我真正想做的事情,这是我最沮丧的)”以及“I was pouring part of my heart and soul into a job I didn’t even want to do(我把我的一部分心血倾注在一份我甚至不想做的工作上)”可知,作者不愿意全身心投入到这份不喜欢的工作中,所以作者认为自己的工作没有什么意义。
根据文章最后一自然段“I probably wouldn't be where I am today if I hadn’t taken the time to figure out why I was really so angry.(如果我不花时间弄清楚为什么我真的那么生气的话,我今天可能就不在这里了)”可知,作者如果当初不反思自己生气的原因,就不会有今天的状况。
根据文章第一自然段“Knowing why you feel so angry can provide you with some surprising answers. These answers can enable you to grow spiritually and mentally.(知道你为什么这么生气可以给你一些令人惊讶的答案。这些答案能让你在精神上和思想上成长)”可知,本文主要讲述了知道为什么生气,会让人在精神上和思想上成长。因此推断文章最有可能来自于一本杂志。故此题选C。
C
Can people in developing countries benefit from free trade I quite think so. The most common advantage of free trade is fewer or no barriers between countries. This allows a freer flow of labor and goods between member countries. As free trade agreements become more common around the world, the positive influence on developing countries has been considered as one of the greatest successes of them. There are several advantages for developing countries that take part in free trade.
As developed countries are able to move their operations into developing countries, new job opportunities open up for local workers. Increased levels of employment lead to a higher standard of living and more consumer purchasing. This finally does good to the country's economy and may help to develop locally-owned businesses. As locally-owned businesses develop, more local people can find jobs there.
Child labor exists in developing countries for many reasons, but one of the main reasons is lack of technology. Free trade allows companies to spend more money on equipment and pay higher wages to adult workers. With higher family incomes, children are able to attend school rather than work.
Not only does free trade allow foreign-owned companies to establish themselves in developing countries, it also allows native companies to sell products to foreign markets. This is particularly true for small businesses in developing countries. These companies no longer have to worry about barriers to market entry and can sell their products freely.
An increase in employment levels and incomes in developing countries can lead to better medical care there. The final result is an increase in the average life span and a drop in infant deaths.
As is shown above, we can say that free trade really benefits developing countries.
8. What does the underlined word "them" in Paragraph 1 refer to
A. Positive advantages. B. Developing countries.
C. Free trade agreements. D. Barriers between countries.
9. According to Paragraph 2, free trade allows developing countries to have ________.
A. more higher-skilled jobs B. higher employment rates
C. higher market competitiveness D. more foreign-owned companies
10. If developing countries take part in free trade, children there ________.
A. don't have to work B. can receive higher wages
C. don't have to attend school D. can learn more about new technologies
11. What does the writer mean by saying the underlined part in Paragraph 4
A. Small businesses can get more skilled employees.
B. Free trade provides small businesses with new markets.
C. Foreign-owned companies can sell their products to developing countries.
D. Free trade can lead to greater competition between foreign and local companies.
C 9. B 10. A 11. B
根据画线词上文“As free trade agreements become more common around the world, the positive influence on developing countries has been considered as one of the greatest successes of them”可知,随着自由贸易协定在世界范围内越来越普遍,自由贸易协议对发展中国家的积极影响被认为是其最大的成功之一。
根据第二段“As developed countries are able to move their operations into developing countries, new job opportunities open up for local workers. Increased levels of employment lead to a higher standard of living and more consumer purchasing. This finally does good to the country's economy and may help to develop locally-owned businesses. As locally-owned businesses develop, more local people can find jobs there. (随着发达国家能够将其业务转移到发展中国家,为当地工人提供了新的工作机会。就业水平的提高导致生活水平的提高和更多的消费。这最终对国家经济有益,并可能有助于发展当地的企业。随着当地企业的发展,更多的当地人可以在那里找到工作)”可推知,自由贸易可以提高发展中国家的就业率。故选B。
【10题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段中“With higher family incomes, children are able to attend school rather than work.(随着家庭收入的增加,孩子们能够上学而不是工作)”可知,如果发展中国家参与自由贸易,那里的儿童就不必工作。故选A。
根据第四段中“it also allows native companies to sell products to foreign markets”以及“These companies no longer have to worry about barriers to market entry and can sell their products freely.”
D
First of all, students should respect their teachers. They should pay attention in class. That means saluting(向……致敬)the teacher, standing from your chair when the teacher enters the classroom, attending any lesson attentively, etc. In the class of a certain subject or a teacher you don't like very much,if it's total anarchy(混乱),how can we talk about respect?
Play by the rules
If your teacher wants you to use wide-lined paper,do it!If he/she tells you to sharpen your pencils only before class starts, listen to him/her. If he/she doesn't accept late homework,do yours on time. Sometimes classroom rules seem strict or even silly, but most teachers know what's necessary to make things run smoothly and what it takes to let the learning begin. And the better the learning environment is,the smarter you'll be!
Expect him/her to like you
Teachers are teachers because they like kids. Given the chance, most teachers want to be your friends too. Respect your teacher, but don't be afraid of him/her. He/She wants you to have a great school year just as much as you want to have!
Put first things first
Friends are a fun part of school. But sometimes they' re not the most important part. When your teacher is teaching, give him/her your full attention. Even when it's hard to do — recess will come soon, and that's the time for playing with your friends.

A. Don't play if you haven't completed your homework.

D. Make the learning environment as good as possible.
14. According to the last paragraph, what do you think the first thing is?
A. The teacher.

C. A magazine. D. A novel.

12. Which of the following would be the best title for the text
A. Advice Before You Go to School
B. What You Should Do at School
C. How to Get Along with Your Teacher
D. How to Plan Your Time at School
13. What do you think the title“Play by the rules”means
A. Don't play if you haven't completed your homework.
B. Follow what the teacher says.
C. Work is work and play is play.
D. Make the learning environment as good as possible.
14. According to the last paragraph, what do you think the first thing is?
A. The teacher.
B. The teacher's lecture.
C. The students.
D. Friends.
15. The underlined word“recess”in the last paragraph most probably means“___________”.
