Animals are our friends. Sometimes they make trouble, but sometimes they can help us. Here are two real stories from our readers.
The first story is from Ray. “My cat, Tiger, hates it when I use my iPad because it takes my attention away from him. One year, I had a fall at home and was on the floor for 16 hours. During this time, I couldn’t move to use the phone for help. Tiger stayed by my side until he disappeared under my bed. ‘What’s he up to ’ I wondered. To my surprise, he started to push something towards me. It was my iPad. He probably didn’t know what it was, but he knew that it made me happy. Thanks to Tiger, I was able to talk with my friend, Becky, who then told my doctor.”
The second story is from Colin. “Years ago, my friend Julius saved a bird— a wild ‘Mom’ cockatoo (鹦鹉) from the side of the road and kept it as a pet in a big cage(笼子) . It lost one of her wings, so she couldn’t return to the wild. Soon, two wild cockatoos came visiting and one ‘Dad’ bird wanted to find his way into the cage. The ‘Mom’ cockatoo in the cage was soon expecting. But as she couldn’t fly, ‘Dad’ cockatoo built a home in the tree. ‘Baby’ cockatoo would spend his days flying off with his dad, leaving his mom behind. She would sit and wait until they returned home each afternoon. The family stayed together happily.”

Do you know the world’s smallest reptile(爬行动物) The world’s smallest reptile is a kind of chameleon called B. nana. The male(雄性的) chameleon has a body of only 1.35 cm!
B. nana hunts insects for food in the rainforest(热带雨林) . It is so small that it could easily become food for a larger insect or spider. So, B. nana needs to be careful all the time.
Unlike some other chameleons, B. nana doesn’t have the ability to greatly change its colors. Its brown skin looks like the color of dead leaves. This small reptile can hide(藏) well under leaves or grass.
B. nana was first discovered in 2012. Since then, the mountain area where it lives has been put under protection by the government. Still, only two of them so far have been found in the wild. Scientists suggested that the chameleon should be listed as the critically endangered(极其濒危的) animal in the IUCN Red List to help protect it.

“It is well worth the effort”意为“付出努力是值得的”, 推知后半句意为: 日出的确很美。故选A。
Look at the sign “No swimming”可知, 人们不能游泳。warn sb. (not) to do sth.
used to do sth. 过去常常做某事; be used to doing sth.
have been to 意为“已经去过”, 表示人已经回来, 故选A。
故选A。
故选A。
故选A。
根据第二段开头“The first story is from Ray. ‘My cat, Tiger...”
根据第三段中“It lost one of her wings, so she couldn’t return to the wild.”
