1).本主题是科学家与科学研究，本主题介绍了英国著名医生John Snow是如何通过考察、分析、探究的科学方法，发现“霍乱”成因并进行控制该传染病。文本属于科学报告，学习后能够从中理解John Snow的科研步骤，感悟科学家周密观察、勇于探索、认真分析、无私奉献的科学精神。
2).本主题学习大致按照以下流程开展：看视频引入有关“霍乱”的话题并预测成因→略读文本概括文本大意,梳理文本结构→细读进一步了解文本细节（John Snow的科研过程）→重述John Snow发现“霍乱”成因的过程→体会John Snow优秀的科学精神。
3).教学重难点：运用所学语言复述大意和对科学家的特征合理地表达个人观点。
2. 前备知识
1).预习时间：20分钟。
2).预习内容：教材P91-92词汇;课前上网查找有关霍乱知识的文章或找医生了解什么是霍乱。
3. 课中学习
Step 1 warming up (4 mins)
1. Watch a video clip about cholera and think how serious it was.
2. Guess what is the cause of cholera.
Step 2 Reading (18 mins)
1. Skimming (8 mins)
1). Based on the title of this passage, skim to find out what this passage is mainly about. (DO1).
2). Match each paragraph with the stage of John Snow’s scientific research. (DO1）
Paragraph 1 A. collect data

5). Put the following events in the order that they happened. (DO2)
