Many factories and businesses around the globe have been struggling to deal with the
severe economic realities of the recession (衰退), so they are having their employees take compulsory unpaid leave to save money. For some workers, their salaries have been cut by 20 percent, forced to stay home one out of every five working days. For some businesses, though, the economic downturn is actually a goldmine.
Instead of going out to fancy restaurants to dine with the whole family, many choose to stay at home. “People are eating out less and staying home more, which is driving our sales.” reports Domino's Pizza chief manager Chris Moore. Pizza is very popular, and it is also very affordable for a family that has little extra money to spare. Domino’s business in England rose 15 percent in the first six weeks this year compared with the previous year. More believes that customers now will remain loyal when the financial situation rights itself. “By exceeding (超越) their expectations in terms of product quality and speed of delivery, these customers will stay with Domino's when the economy becomes better.” said Moore.
Delivered pizza is not the only winner in the stay-at-home economy. Almost all online games have been reporting record-high income since the middle of 2016. Online games are designed to enable players to let off steam by interacting with each other socially in the comfort of their own homes. A Shanghai-based online game producer recently joked: “The game businesses are worried about economic recovery.”
Another business that has boomed during the recession is camping equipment. Luxury (奢侈的) vacations for families are down, but people still want to get away from their dull lives. This means that sales of tents, sleeping bags, and other outdoor equipment have gone up as families are trying to still have fun even though their bank accounts aren’t as good as they once were. There have been reports that sales of fishing equipment are on the rise because many people believe this can help lower their grocery bills.
24. What is TRUE about Domino’s in economic hard times
A. It us giving its employees a 20 percent cut. B. It has added four or five new cheaper pizzas.
C. It has to close 15 percent of its stores. D. Its business is increasing quite rapidly.

A. Free one’s feelings. B. Make money from an online game.
C. Kill another player online. D. Save money
26. How does the author present his point
A. By making comparisons and contrasts. B. By offering suggestions.
C. By explaining causes and effects. D. By giving examples.
27. What is the best title for the passage
A. Domino’s Pizza. B. Camping Equipment. C. In-house Economy. D. Online Games.

We have heard some interesting news that 5G wireless technology might change our lives in the future.
5G-short for the 5th Generation Cellular Network Technology, promises the Internet speeds 50 to 100 times faster than 4G systems. While 5G is set to be used in some limited areas of America this year, much of the world is not expected to receive widely available service until 2023.
One project in Britain, however, is already testing this super fast technology on an unlikely group of the Internet users-cows. The project was developed by Cisco Systems, an American technology company. It also receives money from the British government. Cisco says the program seeks to explore the future of 5G connectivity in rural areas around the world.
Testing areas were set up on farms in three rural areas in England. The cows are equipped with 5G-connected devices that link up to a robotic milking system, which uses sensors and machine learning to fully automate the process. System designers say technology takes over after a cow feels ready to be milked and walks toward an automatic gate. The device is designed to recognize each individual cow. It then positions equipment to the right body position for milking. During the process, machines release food for the cow as a reward.
Other 5G technology tools include automated brushes that start when the cow rubs against them. Sensors also control the amount of light in the cows' living areas depending on the weather. And an automatic feeding system makes sure the animals always get enough food to eat.
Duncan Forbes, head of the project, told Reuters that the project shows the farm's cow operation can be greatly improved with 5G technology and that the experiment provides strong evidence that 5G technology can be widely used in the future, not just on farms in Britain, but in rural communities across the world.
28. What is the purpose of Cisco Systems’ program
A. To win financial support from British government.
B. To test the effects of 5G technology on animals.
C. To expand the future use of 5G in rural communities.
D. To promote its technological development in Britain
29. What does the underlined word “It” in paragraph 3 refer to
A. The technology. B. The company. C. The group. D. The project.
30. What can we learn about 5G according to the text
A. It is no better than 4G in terms of speed. B. It enables cows to control their own milking.
C.. It is already widely available in the world. D. It is based on sensors and machine learning.
31. In which section of a newspaper may this text appear
A. Entertainment. B. Lifestyle C. Education. D. Technology

Named after the "quest(探索) for heavenly truth", Tianwen 1, China's first Mars probe(探测器), has given us breathtaking images of the red planet.
These are the first close-up images of Mars' surface taken by China, which were made public by the China National Space Administration (CNSA) on March 4, this year. The probe shot high-definition pictures while traveling in Mars' orbit. Craters(撞击坑), mountain ridges(山脊) and sand dunes(沙丘) can clearly be seen. CNSA estimated that the largest crater in the image could be about 620 meters in diameter (直径).
The pictures were taken at different distances from Mars. The two black-and-white images were taken by the high-resolution(高分辨率的)camera on Tianwen 1 when the probe was about 330-350 kilometers above the Martian surface. As for the color image, it was taken by Tianwen 1’s medium-resolution camera.
It is the shooting modes that determine if the images are black-and-white or colored. The high-resolution camera can take both color and panchromatic(全色的) images. Panchromatic images, which are black and white, are the clearest, containing the largest amount of data for scientific study. The medium-resolution camera, although featuring automatic exposure and remote control, can only produce lesser clear images. Scientists combined the panchromatic and color images, obtaining a clear and beautiful color image.
Tianwen 1 was launched on July 23rd, 2020 and landed on Mars on May 15th, 2021. The success of Tianwen 1 mission makes China another nation after the U.S. and the Soviet Union to land on Mars. Now China is among the leading countries in planetary exploration by virtue of advanced technology and Chinese spaceflight spirit.
Which of the following is NOT true
A. Panchromatic images are colored. B. The images were issued on March 4.
C. Tianwen 1 landed on Mars in May this year. D. China is the third nation to land on Mars.
33. What do we know about the pictures of Mars taken by Tianwen 1
A. CNSA released five high-resolution images of Mars recently.
B. Mountain ridges are not clear enough in the pictures.
C. The panchromatic images include more data.
D. They are the first close-up images taken of Mars.
34. How were these images taken
A. They were all taken by a high-resolution camera.
B. They were taken in different shooting models.
C. The colors of the images were adjusted by a remote control.
D. They were taken when the probe passed Utopia Planitia.
35. What is the author’s main purpose in writing the article
A. To describe the techniques Tianwen 1 used to take these pictures of Mars.
B. To tell us the difficulties in taking pictures of Mars.
C. To introduce pictures of Mars released by CNSA.
D. To inform readers of the importance of these images of Mars.
第二节:七选五 (共5小题,每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
根据短文内容,选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余选项。
If you are thinking about asking for a raise in salary, there are several things to keep in mind.
First, consider whether you deserve a higher salary. 36 Sit down and make a list of your job accomplishments. Be as specific as possible. For example, think about important projects you have worked on, things you have done to improve the organization of work in your department, or how your efforts have brought more money to the company. Also include any professional development opportunities you have taken advantage of recently and be ready to explain how they have improved your performance on the job. 37
Bear in mind that salary levels are based not only on performance but also on the market for your particular skills. Before you ask for a raise, you need to do some research. You should investigate the industry standards for salaries for people in similar positions with similar levels of experience. 38 Your initial request should actually be slightly higher than the amount you want in order to leave some room for negotiation. Then, if you have to go lower than this amount, you still end up with something close to what you want.
39 If you have recently been given new responsibilities, it makes sense to ask for a higher level of compensation. On the other hand, if the company is going through financial difficulties, a request for more money will probably not be met with a favorable response. It would be better to wait until the company is in a better financial position.
Finally, never give personal reasons for wanting a higher salary. Your need to pay your child's college tuition or buy a bigger house is of no concern to your boss. 40 That is where you need to keep the conversation.
A. A crucial point is the timing of your request.
B. Skills play a key role in your salary level.
C. This will help you determine what would be a reasonable amount of money to ask for.
D. Then you will be better prepared when you meet with your boss.
E. You probably do, but you should be able to explain exactly why to your boss.
F. Your salary level should be based on professional considerations alone.
G. Everyone is eager for a raise in salary.

“Why she let out my secret why she did that to me ’’ I vividly remembered that day when I was confused at the knowing looks which everyone gave me. That terrible experience was imprinted (铭刻) on my mind. I couldn't forgive the person with whom I had shared my secret. She lost all my trust and friendship.
Five years back, Sally was a new addition in our class. I don't know what but there was something sticky about her that attracted me towards her. She was the most friendly person I knew. We started as classmates but after a few months we were like best friends. We did homework together and dreamed of going to the same university one day. We hung out and went to the movies on weekends. That was a sweet time.
Nevertheless, I couldn't expect such an enormous betrayal from her. I didn't know what made me tell Sally about my personal life. I felt much regret to myself. She exaggerated (夸大) the matter, added her own spices to it and made it the hottest topic in school. It was like someone had stabbed a knife in my back. After she revealed my secret, everyone at school started laughing at me and gazing at me wherever I passed. I was like a pond in which someone had thrown a stone and it had been spilled up. It was the most embarrassing time I had gone through. Soon afterwards, I left school and shifted to another one, because I thought no one had the right to laugh at me. Sally called me many times but I didn't answer. My heart was broken because the person whom I trusted most cheated me.
I made efforts to remove the scar from my heart. I started a new life, leaving all the bad memories behind, because they made me a person who often thought about the past experiences. Five years later, with the life going on, I made new friends and seldom thought about the past.

Dear medical workers,
On behalf of my school, I'd like to express my sincere gratitude to you all for
your devotion and really sacrifice in the battle against the COVID-19.
Since the outbreak, you have worked on the front line for several months,
desperately rescuing people from all walks of life, regardless of the shortage of
equipment and the potential of infection. But for your devoted care and selfless
contribution, the situation wouldn't have been controlled in such a short time. It is you

But one day I met Anna in the market, my former classmate, who told me
shocking news. Anna said that after I left school the gossip soon disappeared.
Everyone in our class missed me. Because I left without saying goodbye, Sally was
sad for a long time. And to my amazement, she told me that Sally was not the one
who brought my secret to light. It was Mary who had a big mouth and always wanted
to put her nose in other people's matters. She happened to overhear my conversation
with Sally. I was all at sea, feeling that the floor had slipped away beneath my feet.
Anxious and regretful, I asked Anna for any contact with Sally.
I immediately called Sally after learning of the truth. After getting through, I

sincerely apologized to her. She said softly:" Never mind. We are good friends." I was
in tears, guilt and joy. At that moment, I wished it had not happened. I wished time
could go back and I could overcome my mistake. From that I got a lesson in life that
we should learn to trust our loved ones, because a little mistake can lead us to ruin
what we should value. Trust is the foundational principle that holds friendship. Trust
is also the easiest thing in the world to lose. We need to be open and trust our friends.

Text 1
M: You look different, Laura. Is it your diamond necklace No, that’s not it. I know
— it’s that new blouse you’re wearing. You look good!
W: Actually, I wore this last Sunday. What’s changed is my hair. I just cut it myself!
(1)
Text 2
M: Who else is going to the pop festival at the park I have space in my car for one
more…
2
W: I’d like a ride, (2) Ed! Adam was going to take me, but he decided to go shopping
with Lisa at the last minute.
Text 3
M: I don’t like this. I feel like I’m sinking. Are you sure I’ll be OK
W: You’re doing just fine. Just keep kicking your legs, and pushing out with your
arms. (3)
Text 4
W: You did a great job today, Jack. I heard you made a very big impression on the
students.
M: Thank you for giving me the opportunity. I really like this school. Please keep me
in mind if you ever need someone again. (4)
Text 5
M: I wish I was an actor. They have the coolest job. Just think, if you had all that

but not be satisfied. (5)
Text 6
W: Finally, a scientific study with good results about coffee has been done! (6)

coffee can prevent some diseases. What else have they found
W: The best thing: Drinking coffee late in the day is good for some people,

M: It’s not only that. When I got to work, I was already 30 minutes late. By the time I
got up to the conference room on the 40th floor, my morning meeting was over.
My co-worker Paul got promoted instead of me. Hey, do you plan to finish that
piece of apple pie (9)
W: It’s yours. Well, you certainly don’t miss an opportunity when food is involved!

Text 8 (第 10题为总结题)
W: I think we should take a trip to Italy this year.
M: I’m not sure if I can take the time off work. My company is really busy right now,
and you know we need the money.
3
W: You always say that! We haven’t been on a trip in years. Don’t you want to go on
vacation
M: I do. But we’re still paying off those crazy medical bills from that accident in the
forest last year. (11) It might be more responsible to wait until next year.
W: I understand that it’s important for us to save money. What about a short trip
instead Just to get away for a couple of days…
M: Hmm, that sounds good. Why don’t we go camping in the mountains or near the
ocean It would not be expensive, but most importantly, we’d be close by, so it
would only be a two-day trip.
W: Come on, you know how much I hate sand! Let’s stick to the mountains. Some
fresh air will do us a world of good. What do you say (12)
M: Sounds awesome! (12) Let’s go next weekend.
W: Great!

M: Hello, there. Welcome to Delta Airlines. How can I help you today
W: Hello. Just a minute, my hands are full… I have my passport here somewhere…
M: No problem, ma’am. Why don’t you just give me your name And I’ll get your
ticket ready for you. (13)
W: It’s Laura Jones. (13) I’m on the 10:00 flight to Toronto, Canada. I’m running a
little late because of the traffic. Is there anything you could do to help me
M: I’ll certainly try my best. I’ll also need your baby’s passport.
W: Here it is. I’m sorry. I am in such a hurry. My daughter has been crying all
morning.
M: I completely understand, ma’am. Let me see what kind of seats are available for
you.
W: Actually, I would prefer a seat near the walkway because of my daughter. (14)
M: You know what, I have some very good news. Someone in first class has just
canceled their flight. I can move you into their seat. That will give you lots of
room, and you’ll be right beside the washroom, too.
W: Are you kidding
M: No, ma’am. But boarding begins at 9:30, which is 10 minutes from now. (15)
We’ll find someone to accompany you through security, and have you at the gate
in less than 20 minutes.
W: You are too kind! I really appreciate it! (16)
M: It’s my pleasure. Merry Christmas!

Model Museum at the age of 19. Starting from the first toy that he bought in 1973,
the collection has just kept on growing and growing. (18) Today, you can find
almost everything about toys here. According to Loh Lean Cheng, some of his
4
toys are limited editions. One of the most expensive things in the museum is a
1.8-meter tall Gundam robot from Japan. (19)
There are more toy collections to be added, according to the owner who receives
about 1000 to 2000 visitors per day. If you go to Malaysia, don’t forget to go and
have a look at the toys. The museum is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.,
