Four Family-friendly Autumn Walks in the UK
With the coming of autumn, we have decided to make a list of autumn walks for you and the whole family. These places will include historic buildings, wonderful scenery and wildlife for all to enjoy.
Formby Nature Reserve, Liverpool
Formby is a coastal town just north of Liverpool and is luckily one of the few places in Britain where there are a large number of red squirrels(松鼠). Children will love the excitement of getting to see these cute animals. The paths are well protected, meaning they are fit for pushchairs. And dogs are allowed, too.
Hadrian's Wall, Newcastle
The 73-mile-long Hadrian's Wall was completed by the Romans in 128 AD after 6 years' building. Autumn walks along Hadrian's Wall are an excellent way to educate children on the history of the British Isles and really get up close to the styles of Roman buildings rather than just see it in a textbook!
Lyme Park, Peak District
Not only is Lyme Park home to many trees, it is also home to a group of medieval(中世纪的)red deer and a huge Edwardian country manor(庄园). This Peak District walk is quite fit for families, and along the way are playgrounds and tree houses, making sure that the little ones that you are with will never feel bored.
Lakeside Walk at Stowe, Buckinghamshire
This place is on the outskirts of London and provides people with perfect chances to escape from the busy city lifestyle. The flat and wide path around the river makes it more than fit for pushchairs or wheelchairs. This walk is short in length, meaning it is a great way to introduce any young one to walking as a hobby. The walk is great all year round.

My school appeared on the news last week because we had made an important change in our local area. Our class had planted a large garden in what was once only a vacant lot. It was a lot of work but it was all worth it. I got blisters(水泡)from digging, and we all got insect bites, too.
I learned a lot about gardening and teamwork, and then I learned about the media. Our teacher telephoned the TV station and informed them of what we had done. She spoke with the producer. The producer checked with the directors, but they said there were plenty of stories similar to ours. They wanted to know what was special about our garden, because many schools plant gardens.
The teacher explained that, after going on the Internet to learn about the prairie(北美草原). we had made a prairie garden. We had been to a prairie and gotten seeds from the plants, and then we planted them. We did not water the garden, but we did weed it. We decided to let nature water it with rain, because that was how prairies grew in the past. We sent a picture of the garden to the news station. In the picture, the grass was so high that it stood taller than the fourth grade students.
As a result, the producer sent a reporter to our school. He interviewed the headmaster and asked him many questions about the garden. After that, the headmaster interviewed us, and we explained to him what we had learned through this project.
That night, we watched the news, and there we were. The news reporter told our story. It was only two minutes long, but it was us. We were famous All that work, all those blisters, it was worth it. We knew that when we saw the garden every day, but now we knew that the whole city thought so, too.
24. What seemed to be the TV directors' initial reaction to the garden
A. They were excited. B. They were surprised.
C. They were worried. D. They were uninterested.
25. What is special about the garden
A. Weeds were allowed to spread naturally. B. The grass grew faster than common grass.
C. The seeds came from the plants of a prairie. D. Underground water was used for the plants.
26. What does the underlined word “that” refer to in the last paragraph
A. Our hard work was worthwhile. B. We got blisters on our hands.
C. The garden would be famous. D. The project would be finished.
27. How did the author feel about the project
A. Annoyed. B. Proud. C. Curious. D. Regretful.

There are many ways to travel within a city. We can walk, cycle, or take a bus. But no matter which way we travel, we have to stick to the route(线路)the city planners laid down for us.
Parkour practitioners(跑酷爱好者),however, see the city in a completely different way. To them, there are no fixed routes. There are no walls and no stairs—since they jump, climb, roll and crawl to move across. Through, over and under anything that they find in their path. The city is their playground.
The International Gymnastics Federation(FIG)has noticed that this activity is drawing more and more people to it—there are 100,000 people taking part in parkour today in the UK alone, according to the Guardian—and how it is helpful for people to be much stronger: It trains coordination(协调性)and balance. So the organization is thinking about recognizing parkour as a new sport and adding it to the Olympics by 2024.
But parkour practitioners themselves don't seem to be happy with the idea. They see parkour as “a lifestyle”, wrote the website NextSportStar. “It's a competition against the conditions rather than just a sport.”
Indeed, many do parkour just to “escape the daily routine(事务)and experience the city in different ways”, wrote reporter Oli Mould on The Conversation. They see parkour as a way to express themselves through relaxing moves and creative routes while freeing themselves from the pressure.
It's great that the FIG wants to develop new sport and stay close to a new cultural form. But it would be greater if they knew that not everything in life is a competition.
32. How do the parkour practitioners do parkour
A. They move on as they wish. B. They plan the way themselves.
C. They run faster than others. D. They stick to certain routes.
33. Why does the FIG want to add parkour to the Olympics
A. It's a special way of life. B. It draws their attention.
C. It's good for people to keep healthy. D. It needs some rules and instructions.
34. What is the author's idea on parkour
A. It is more formal than other sports. B. It helps people to be creative.
C. It's worth adding to the sporting event. D. It calls on people to work as a team.
35. What is the best title for the passage
A. A new sports competition B. Parkour practitioners
C. Training in a different way D. Making the city their own

Some people might say, “It's not a big 53 ; it's just Venice. Thousands of people go there every day.” But it was more than that to me. It was about having a 54 and when it was time for it to come true, don't be afraid to let it 55 .

第二节(共10小题;每小题1.5分,满分l5分)
阅读下面短文,在空白处填入1个适当的单词或括号内单词的正确形式。
As an old saying goes, “Friends are like wine, the older, the 56 (good).” Many people consider old friends 57 (be)more important than new ones. For example, if two pieces of advice 58 (give)to solve a problem, one from a new friend and the other from an old friend, people would prefer 59 later one to the former one, even though the new friend's advice may be better. 60 , I disagree with the old saying, believing that new friends are not necessarily worse than old friends. 61 is not always right to determine your friendship by the length(长度)of time.
Once you call someone a friend, he must be a person who is reliable and whose 62 (interest)are in common with 63 (you). It is mainly his character(性格)and interests that make him your friend. It 64 (actual)has little to do with time. People's appearance may change, but their character usually 65 (stay)the same. Therefore, on this point, there is no difference between old friends and new friends.

(Text 10)
Today, our lecture is about how some American states got their names. Each state was named in a different way. For example, the first 13 states along the Atlantic coast were usually named for British rulers, such as North Carolina and South Carolina.
The early British explorers named some areas by adding the word “New” to the name of a town or place in Britain, for example, the eastern states of New Hampshire and New Jersey.
Other states were named by Europeans who were not British. For example, Spanish explorers in the 16th century gave the name California to an area they discovered. They did this because they thought the area was an island. California was the name of an island of gold in a well-known Spanish book of the time.
Other names of places show the influence of American Indians. For example, French explorers called a river in the midwest “Missouri”. They named it after the Indian tribe that lived along the river. They also gave the name Missouri to a place along the river, which later became a state.
