Dear John,
I’m sorry to know that you are having trouble in such situation. I understand quite well that you are anxious and feel terrible. In my opinion, it would be wise to take the following action.
Firstly, keeping a balanced diet can benefit your health a lot. You can introduce fruit and vegetables into your diet every day. Besides,it’s a good idea to do exercises regularly to keep fit because it can not only build your body but make you feel energetic and relaxed. Finally, why not join some new clubs to meet new people and make new friends which can make you more confident and will not feel lonely any more.
I do hope you will take my advice into consideration.
Yours,
Li Hua

How often do you exercise A new study found that most kids aged 12 to 15 weren’t getting enough physical activity. The results were based on about 800 kids. As part of the study, the kids reported on their own activity levels, and took physical exams. According to the study, only 25% of U.S. kids get enough physical activity.
"It's certainly worrying to see that our kids have such a limited amount of physical activity each day," said Dr. Stephen Pont. He is an expert on children's health.
Few kids in the study met the requirement on physical activity that raises the heart rate and makes people breathe harder. Overall, about 25% said they got an hour of that kind of exercise every day. Kids also reported on which activities they did most often outside of school gym class—basketball for boys and running for girls.
'There's always room for improvement," said Tala Fakhouri, who was the leader of the study. Fakhouri visits schools and holds exercise events. She also calls on schools to offer regular gym classes.

Ever heard of the words “one man’s waste is another man’s treasure ” Nabeel Alam has taken that idea to a whole new level.
He and 26 other high school students from Durham, east of Toronto, Canada, started a company that turns unused clothes into practical reusable bags.
Nabeel said the clothing they use is in good condition, but is being thrown away because it’s no longer useful or it’s out of style. By repurposing clothes (given by family and friends) heading for the garbage dump (垃圾场), Nabeel can work toward achieving his goal: cutting down on textile (纺织品)waste in Canada. “We give it a new purpose,” said Nabeel, the company’s president.
How does the company work The students take the clothes and put them in the wash. Then a team member cuts the clothes to match an outline. After that, the bags are sewn(缝制) together by a sewer who volunteers to help the company.
The team puts pictures of them on their website and Instagram so people can buy them for between $8 and $12. Nabeel said the goal of the company—named Vivlio Amet — is to let people know how much textile waste leads to climate(气候)change.
But Vivlio Amet will only last for a little while longer. That's because Vivlio Amet started in October 2019 as an 18-week Junior Achievement Program project. Through the program, volunteer advisers team up with students to help them start a temporary business from the ground up.
Though the program is completely separate from school, Nabeel said it doesn't feel like extra work. “I don’t treat it like a task. It’s something I like a lot,” Nabeel said. “If you want to be successful you need to work really hard at it.”
28. What does Vivlio Amet do
A. It runs a garbage dump. B. It sells reusable old clothes.
C. It makes bags with old clothes. D. It collects unused clothes for factories.
29. According to Nabeel, what is the purpose of Vivlio Amet
A. To make pocket money for him.
B. To try his luck at running a company.
C. To call on people to avoid textile waste.
D. To set a good example for his classmates.
30. What does the underlined word “temporary” in paragraph 6 mean

Researchers from the University of Western Australia recently studied 3,000 middle and high school students. Among them were 618 teenagers with one parent who lived away from home for long periods of time because of work. The researchers wanted to know how the work of these “fly-in, fly-out” parents might influence the health of their children.
A higher percentage (比例) of teenagers who experienced the long work absence of a parent had emotional (情感的)or behavioral problems compared with those whose parents worked more traditional hours. This supports earlier research finding high percentages of emotional problems in teenagers who often returned to an empty house after school or whose parents were seldom at dinner.
Findings also suggest that parents don't have to be home all the time to be present in their children’s lives, but it helps to be home at certain times. And the best parental presence for a teenager may sometimes be like a potted (盆栽的)plant.
Many parents of teenagers have known this to be true and find ways to be present without trying to start a conversation. One friend of mine quietly does housework each evening in the sitting room where her teenagers watch TV. They enjoy one another’s company (陪伴)without the need to talk. Another friend usually accepts his daughter’s invitation to work or read nearby while she sits and does her homework. Perhaps, that, at least for some families, is the best way for a teenager and their parents to stay close.
In fact, many years of research suggest that children use their parents as a safe base from which to explore the world. Studies tell us that young children quietly follow their parents' movements from room to room, even while carrying on with their own activities. Perhaps our teens, like babies, feel most at ease when their parents are still around. They don't want to stay away from parents who allow them freedom.
A new school year is at hand, so as parents we could offer our teenagers a “potted flower” as a gift, whose quiet and steady (稳定的)presence will give them a great day.
32. What did the study find about the 618 teens
A. They had more dinners with their parents.
B. They were more prepared to help themselves.
C. They were more likely to have trouble with their feelings.
D. They showed more dislike for traditional working hours.
33. What is the author’s attitude to her two friends’ practices
A. She doubts them. B. She supports them.
C. She is worried about them. D. She cares little about them.
34. What does earlier research say about young kids according to paragraph 5
A. They prefer parents' quiet company.
B. They want more freedom from parents.
C. They pay attention to parents’ behavior.
D. They show more interest in new activities.
35. What is the best title for the text
A. Teens want potted plant parents
B. Your kids still need conversation
C. Quiet families raise healthier teenagers
D. Parents know little about today's teenagers
