Unit 2 This is my sister.
The 1st period ( Section A 1a—2c)
Teaching aims:
1. Get students to learn how to greet people, introduce themselves and make new friends.
2. Practice introducing family members.
3. Get students to learn to identify people.
Teaching keys:
New words: mother, father, parents, brothers, grandmother, grandfather, friend and sister.
This is my brother. These are my two brothers. And that’s my sister.
Teaching difficulties:
This is my brother. These are my two brothers. And that’s my sister.
Teaching methods:
Task-based Language Teaching,Visual teching method, situational teaching method
Teaching steps:
I. Warming-up and revision
1. Play the tape, enjoy the “This is my brother” song or Hello song, get the Ss to sing together.
2. Revise unit 2. Show some key sentences in Chinese on the screen, have students translate them into English, get a student from each group to come to the front and write down their answers on the blackboard, then check the answers, each correct sentence will earn a point for the group.
Ⅱ.Presentation
1. Ask students look at the picture and say something about it.
2. Show pictures and teach the new words one by one, and ask students to spell them.
3. Finsh 1a and check the answers.
Ⅲ. Listening drills (1)1b
1. Read the instructions to the students .
2. Play the tape recording and ask them to circel the words they hear in 1a.
IV. Pair-work.
1. Tell students that they will be talking about the members of Dave’s family shown in the picture. Call attention to the example conversation in 1c. ask a student to read the words to the class. Then ask the students to repeat the sentences and point to these people in the large picture. Ask pairs to work together. Have them take turns pointing out various family members using sentences beginning with This is or these are.
V. Listening drills (2) 2a and 2b
1.Do Section A, 2a. Listen and circle each name of a family member they hear in the conversation..
2. Do Section A, 2b. Listen again, match the letters next to the people in the picture to the correct names in the box. Check the answers.
Ⅵ. Practice
1. Let two students read the sample conversation to the class.
2. Give them 3 minutes to make conversations about the photo in 2b.
3. Ask some pairs to act out and give them help if necessary.
Homework::
1. Listen and read after the tape for thirty minutes.
2. Recite the sentences in the bubble of 1a and the sentences in1b..
3. Write down the Chinese meaning of the new words and key sentences, then translate them into English.
The 2nd period ( Section A 2d – 3c)
Teaching aims:
Get the students to learn to identify people.
Teaching keys:
1. Master the usage of this and that, and their plurals form these and those.
2. Master the usage of verb “be”, especially is and are.
Teaching difficulties:
How to identify people correctly.
Teaching methods::
Task-based Language Teaching,Visual teching method, situational teaching method
Teaching steps:
I. Dictation
Have a dictation of the words learned in the last lesson.
Ⅱ.Warming-up and revision
1. Play the tape, enjoy the “This is my brother” song or Hello song, get the Ss to sing together.
2. Revise the word by asking students to read them one by one, and then ask some pairs to read the conversation in 1c.
Ⅲ. Pair-work.
First ask students to read the dialogue by themselves, then read atfer the teacher.
Listen to the tape and repeat after it.
Say the instructions and give them some minutes to practice with partners.
Ask some pairs to act out and give them help if necceary.
IV. Grammar Focus
Write the sentences on the blackboard and ask them to read.
Explain the sentences and point the key grammar.
Single forms: this / that Plural forms: these / those
Who’s she She’s my sister.
Who’re they They’re my grandparents.
Ask students read them together and recite after class.
V. Work on 3a
Read the instruction to the class and them to finish it by themselves.
Ask some students to speak out their answers and check them.
Give students some time to practice the conversation and then ask some pairs to practice.
VI.Work on 3b
Call attention to the picture and ask students to make sentences with the words in the boxes.
Eg: This is my brother and he is playing basketball.
After some minutes, ask some to read their sentences and check them.
Ⅶ.Groupwork
Divide the students into small groups. Have students talk about the photos they broght.
Homework::
Copy Grammar Focus and translate them one by one.
The 3rd period (Section B 1a – 1d)
Teaching aims:
1.Teach the family tree.
2. Have the students know the names of the various members of a family.
Teaching keys:
New words: aunt, uncle, cousin, grandpa, grandma, daughter,picture
Teaching difficulties::
How to analysis the family tree.
Teaching methods::
Task-based Language Teaching,Visual teching method, situational teaching method
Teaching steps:
I. Warming-up
Daily greetings to the students
Ⅱ.Revision
Show some pictures and revise the names for family members.
Have a review of the Grammar Focus by asking some questions.
Point out the keys in the last lesson and ask students say something about their families.
Ⅲ. Pair-work.
Ask students to practice 3a in pairs.
Choose some pairs to practice, and correct their pronuciation if they make mistakes.
Ⅳ.Presentation: the family tree
First, ask students read the words in the box together and get the meanings.
Say this is the family tree, and explain the meaning of it.
Give students some minutes to finish it and check the answer.
Ⅴ.Listening drills 1b,1c
1. Read the instructions to the students .
2. Play the tape recording and ask them to check the words they hear in 1a.
3. Listen to the tape again, choose the correct picture they talked about.
4. Check the answers and play for another time.
Ⅵ. Groupwork
1. Ask each student to draw a picture of their families and friends.
2. Introduce the pictures to their partners.
3. Ask four students to introduce in front of the teacher’s desk and give them help.
Ⅶ. Exercise
1. Finish exercise in page 24: Translate the sentences into English.
2. Walk around the class and give help if possible.
3. Check the answers and teach some translation skills.
Homework:
1. Listen to the tape for at least 30 minutes.
2. Copy the words learned this lesson. (each 3 times)
3. Preview page 11 and try to finish 2b and 2c.
The 4th period (Section B 2a – 2c)
Teaching aims:
Train students’ reading skills.
Teaching keys:
How to train students’ reading skill.
Teaching difficulties::
How to improve students’ reading level.
Teaching methods::
Task-based Language Teaching,Visual teching method, situational teaching method
Teaching steps::
I. Warming-up
Greet the class as usual.
Ⅱ. Dictation.
Have a dictation. (10 words)

Ⅲ. Revision
Show a family tree in the blackboard.
Ask students some questions and consolidate the knowledge learned last time.
Read the new words together.
Ⅳ.Practice.
Ask students find the male and female first names in this unit and write them down.
Male: Dale, Frank, Bob, Eric, Tony
Female: Gina, Grace, Alice, Jenny
Check the answers and then read together.
Ⅴ. Reading
1. Ask students read for the first time and circle the names referred in the passage.
2.Explain the passage sentence by sentence, and ask single student to translate them.
3.Explain the key grammars and write them on the blackboard.
Inversion sentence proximity就近原则 Here are two nice photos of my family.
Eg: Here is a map of China. Here are two maps.
There is a desk and two chairs. There are two chairs and a desk.
Ⅵ. work on 2c
1. Read the passage for another time.
2. Finish the task and complete the sentences.
3. Check the answer. and listen to the tape.
Ⅶ. Practice
1. Listen to the tape and students repeat.
2. Free reading for themselves at least 3 minutes.
3. Ask single student to read the passage and correct their pronuciation if possible.
Homework:
1. Read the 2b three times and copy it.
2. Listen for at least 30 minutes and remember the words in this unit.
3. Finish exercise page 24.
The 5th period (Section B 3a – Self-check)
Teaching aims:
Train students’ writing skills.
Teaching keys:
How to write about the family photo.
Teaching difficulties:
How to describe the family photo and introduce the family members.
Teaching methods::
Task-based Language Teaching,Visual teching method, situational teaching method
Teaching steps:
I. Greeting
Greet the class as usual.
Ⅱ. Dictation.
Have a dictation of the words learned last lesson .(10 words)
Ⅲ. Revision
Review the new words first.
All the students read 2b together.
Free talk for 3 minutes.
Ⅳ. Work on 3a
Read the instruction first, and then ask students to read the words in the box.
Give students some time to fill the blank with the words.
Check the answers and draw the picture of Paul’s family.
Practice reading the short passage together.
Ⅴ. Practice. (Writing)
Ask students to take out the photos the brought.
The teachre choose one photo and describe them.
Student write a short passage to describe their photos, and the teacher give them help.
Ask three or four students to read theirs’ out.
Ⅵ. Work on Self—check 1
Point out the different between male and female, and then explain the meaning of both.
Give students some time to group the words.
Ask some to read and check them.
Ⅶ. Work on Self—check 1
Finish the dialogue first and then check it.
Ask students to practice this dialogue.
Find some pairs to act it out, and correct their pronuciation if they make mistakes.
Homework::
1. Remember the word in unit 2 and make preparation for tomorrow’s dictation.
2. Finish the exercise in our books.
3. Listen to the tape for at least 30 minutes.
