Starter Unit 2 What’s this in English
The First Period (1a – 1c)
Teaching aims:
1. 学习map, cup, ruler, pen, orange, jacket, key, quilt八个表事物的名词。
2. 学会辨认物体:What’s this/that in English It’s … Spell it, please.
3. 学习a/an的初步用法:a jacket, an orange
Teaching keys:
1. 词汇:1)名词n. English, map, cup, ruler, pen, orange, jacket, key, quilt
2)代词 pron. what, this, that, it

Teaching steps:
1. Warming-up and revision
(1)Greetings
Good morning / afternoon / evening.
How are you I’m fine, thank. / I’m OK.
(2)Revise letters A – H
T: Can you say the letters from A to H S: Yes. A, B, C, D, E, F, G.
(3)Play a guessing game
T: (Shows a part of a letter ) What’s this S: I think it’s A / B.
T: (Shows the whole of the letter to let the students check they’re right or wrong.)

2. Presentation
Show some pictures and teach the students to learn the new words “map, cup, ruler, pen, orange, jacket, key, quilt” and the sentences: “What’s this/that in English It’s a /an …”
3. Work on 1a
(1)T: Open your books at Page 5. Look at the letters in 1a. They are big letters.
T: Sally, can you read them aloud S: Yes, …
(2)T: Good. Now please look at the picture and look for the small letters in the picture for these big letters. Check the ones you find. (While the students are doing, the teacher moves around to help the ones who need help.)
(3)Teacher shows PPT to check the students answers.
4. Work on 1b
(1)Play the recording for the first time. Students only listen.
(2)Play the recording for the second time. Students listen and repeat.
(3)Ask some students to repeat the conversations.
(4)Explain how to use a and an by playing PPT.
5. Work on 1c
(1)Students practice the conversations in the picture in pairs.
(2)Students practice their own conversations in pairs.
(3)Ask some pairs to present their own conversations.
6. Word competition
Show the things once as quickly as possible, have a competition between boys and girls. The ones who read them aloud and quickly are winners.
7. Group work
(1)Draw a picture of your own rooms and write down the English names of the things in your rooms.
(2)Talk about the pictures in groups by using
What’s this/that in English It’s a/an …
Teacher is ready to offer his/her help to those students who are in need of it.
7. Homework
(1)Read aloud the words on Page 5.
(2)Copy the new words and sentences.
(3)Get the students to finish the pictures of their own rooms and write down the English names of the things in their room.
The Second Period (2a – 2e)
Teaching aims:
1. 学会正确朗读和书写Ii – Rr 八个字母。
2. 了解缩略字母P、NBA、kg的含义。
3. 巩固所学的八个表事物的名词和句型What’s this/that in English It’s a/an ...
Teaching difficulties:
1. 字母J, K, L, M的正确发音2. 字母I i — R r 的正确书写
Teaching steps:
1. Warming-up and revision
(1)Daily greetings.
(2)Guessing games
a. Teacher prepares 8 pieces of paper with the words in the picture on Page 5. Put them in a box. Get one of the students to pick a word out of the box. The other students ask: What’s this The student answers: It’s …
b. Show some pictures of things by playing PPT and ask students to guess what they are.
A: What’s this in English B: It’s a /an …
(3)Check homework
Students show the pictures they have drawn to each other and talk about the things in their pictures by using “What’s this in English It’s a / an …”
(4)Letter Competition
Teacher shows the letters once very quickly and gets students to call them out.
2. Presentation
Present the letters by playing PPT.
3. Work on 2a
(1)Play the recording. Students listen and repeat.
Teacher: Listen to the recording and read after it, please. (老师每播放一个发音后,学生跟读,并教学生读出其升降调,学生读准确后继续播放。在跟读时尤其让学生注意难点中提到的那几个字母的发音。)
(2)Teacher shows some letter cards.
T: Read these letters, please. (老师利用字母卡,打乱顺序,让学生使用升降调朗读。)
4. Work on 2b
(1)Play the recording for the first time. Students listen.
(2)Play the recording for the second time. Students listen and number the letters.
(3)Play the recording for the third time. Students listen and check their answers.
5. Work on 2c & 2d
教师可以通过多媒体展示或以自己的方式来教学字母的书写Ii — Rr。注意书写体和印刷体的区别。
6. Work on 2e
(1)Present the letters and the meanings the students know.
(2)Present some new letters and their meanings. P, NBA, kg

(1)听读背诵字母A—R。(2)抄写字母I i —R r三遍。(3)抄写并熟记第5页上的词汇。
The Third Period (3a- 3d )
Teaching aims:
1. 复习字母 Aa — Rr
2. 巩固已学的表事物的名词和句型 3. 学会使用新句型:Spell it, please.
Teaching keys:
1. 词汇:动词v. spell, please 2. 句型:Spell it, please.
Teaching difficulties:
怎样记住单词的拼写。
Teaching Steps:
1. Warming-up and revision
(1)Greet the students.
(2)Have a dictation. Students write the letters that the teacher reads. Ask two students to write on the blackboard and check their handwritings.
(2)Revise the letters and the words that the students have learned by playing PPT.
(3)Play a BINGO game
Students draw a chart like the following and write down 9 words on Page5 in the boxes. Then the teacher reads the words out of order.
T: Please draw a chart like this. Write down 9 words on Page 5. You can write down one word in any box as you like.
T: Now I’ll read 9 words and you check what you hear. If you check three words that in one line, you can say BINGO and put up your hands. If you are the first to say BINGO, you are the winner.
2. Presentation
(1)Play a guessing game: What’s the word
Teacher thinks of a word that the students know. Draw a dash on the blackboard for each letter. Get a student to suggest a letter. Then another student says another letter until they get all the letters of the words.
T: I have a word. It has three letters. The second letter is e. What letter is before it and what letter is after it e.g. __e__ (pen)
(2)Get individuals to give their own words and go on playing the guessing game.
3. Work on 3a
(1)T: Please open your books and turn to Page 7. Look at 3a. What can you see
S: I can see a ruler, a map, …
(2)T: Please listen to the recording and number the pictures [1-8]. I’ll play the recording twice. The first time, you just listen. The second time, you can check your answers.
4. Work on 3b
(1)Play the recording for the students to listen and complete the words under the pictures in 3a。
T: Now please look at the pictures in 3a again. There are some uncompleted words under them. You can listen to the recording and complete the words.
(2)Check the answers.
5. Work on 3c
(1)Listen and repeat.
T: Close your books and listen to a conversation. And then repeat.
(2)T: Open your books and turn to Page 7. Look at the conversation in 3c. Let’s listen and repeat.
(3)Ask a pair to practice the conversation.
(4)T: Now you can practice some more conversations with your partners, using the pictures in 3a.
(5)Ask some pairs to present their conversations.
6. Work on 3d
(1)T: Look at 3d. Let’s listen to some conversations and number the word you hear [1-4].
(2)Play the tape twice for the students to listen and number.
(3)Check the answers.
7. Play a guessing game.
Teacher shows a picture of a room. Cover the things first, and ask students to guess what they are. After that, get students to spell them.
8. Work on 3e
(1)Students look at the picture in 3e and practice the conversations in pairs.
(2)Ask some pairs to present their conversations.
(3)Get students to write down two conversations.
9. Homework
(1)熟记本单元词汇,每个抄写两遍。
(2)背诵3a 和3e 的对话,并抄写在作业本上。
The Fourth Period (4a- 4d )
Teaching aims:
1. 巩固所学的字母、单词和句型
2. 学会元音字母A、E、I、O在开音节和闭音节中的基本发音。

Teaching Steps:
1. Warming-up and revision
(1)Greetings
(2)Show some letters quickly and get students to read them out.
(3)Play a guessing game.
Teacher thinks of a word and draws some dashes. One dash represents a letter.
T: What’s this word
S: (Teacher helps students to say) Is there a / an ...
T: Yes. (Write the letter in the proper dash.)
S: Is there a / an ...
T: .... (直到学生把该单词的每个字母说出来。)
(3)Playing a BINGO game
a. Students write down 9 letters in 9 boxes. Listen to the teacher and check what they hear.
b. Students write down 9 words in 9 boxes. Listen to the teacher and check what they hear.
2. Work on 4a
(1)T: Open your books and turn to Page 8. Fill in the missing letters.
(2)Ask one or two students to read aloud the letters.
(3)Check the answers.
(4)Get students to recite the letters A to R in the order.
3. Work on 4b
(1)Students number the words in alphabetical order [1-15].
(2)Get students read the words.
4. Work on 4c
(1)Play the recording for the first time. Students only listen.
(2)Play the recording for the second time. Students listen and repeat.
(3)Ask some students to read the letters and words.
5. Work on 4d
(1)Revise the letters and words in 4a, Page 4.
(2)Students read the words in the first column.
(3)Help students to read the words in Column 2.
(4)Get some individuals to read.
(5)Get students to turn to Page 71. Look at the words in Starter Unit 2 What’s this in English Listen and read. Pay attention to the vowel four sounds.
6. Homework
(1)Read aloud the letters and words in 4d.
(2)Try to read some more words. e.g. Kate, fat, need, spent, bike, dig, nose, boss
