Lose weight just by thinking about being slim. Sounds wonderful, right British
sports psychologist, Pete Cohen, explains how losing weight could be all in the mind.
Cohen has studied the habits of slim, healthy people for more than 10 years and has found that dieting doesn't work. It just makes you anxious about food. So, stop your diet plan for a while and think like a slim person.
Change your focus
Imagine yourself as a slim person. Getting slimmer involves having a more positive picture of yourself. If you imagine yourself looking good, you're much more likely to behave like that. It will encourage you to stop over-eating or eating unhealthy foods.
Think about what you eat
When you are hungry, don't just put the nearest food into your mouth. Stop and ask yourself how the food will make you feel guilty Think about different things you might eat, how they'd make you feel, and then make your choice.
Treat your body better
Your body wasn't designed to sit at a desk all day and in front of a TV set all night. It was designed to move. Slim people are naturally more active. That doesn't mean they go to the gym every day. It just means taking little steps. Perhaps you can walk or cycle to work instead of taking a bus. Whatever you choose, the key to getting results is to build more activities into your daily life.
24.We can learn from Cohen's research that ________.
A. slim people are strict with themselves in life
B. dieting does work in the long run
C. dieting makes you desire for food
D. losing weight has nothing to do with food
25.According to Cohen, you should ________.
A. do physical exercises whenever possible
B. work out every day
C. try to refresh yourself whenever possible
D. do body-building every day
26.Which of the following is NOT true if you want to have a slim body
A. You should have a right attitude to your body.
B. You should think about what you eat before eating.
C. You should think of yourself as a slim person.
D. You should have a strong determination.
27.What is the best title for this passage
A. How to Be Slim B. Lose Weight
C. Idea about Slimness D. Stop Dieting

His parents may have named him Edson Arantes do Nascimento, but to the rest of the world, he is known as Pelé. Without doubt, Pele is the greatest soccer player ever.
Born in a small village in Brazil, Pelé grew up playing soccer like most other children of his age. Too poor to afford a soccer ball, Pele and his playmates often made one by tying together a bunch of rags. Their playing field was usually a sidewalk. Old tin cans marked where the goalposts should be. Pelé and the other boys from his neighborhood often dreamed of one day becoming professional soccer players. At the age of eleven, Pelé was discovered by Waldemar de Brito, a former professional player. Waldemar de Brito was then the coach of the Bauru Soccer Club and he signed Pele to play for the junior Bauru team.

In 1957, Pelé was selected to play on Brazil's national team. He scored the only goal for Brazil in the first game and another goal in the second game. Then in 1958, Pelé helped Brazil win its first World Cup.
Between 1958 and 1970, Pele played in four World Cups. He is the only person who won three World Cups. Pelé played his last game with the Brazilian national team in 1971, but he continued to play for the Sanlos team for three more years before calling it quits.
Throughout his career, Pelé had an amazing ability to touch people. Once a war was suspended for two days because the Santos team had been invited to play there and people on both sides were so eager to see Pelé play.

Last Sunday the elephant keeper at London Zoo, Jim Robson, was killed by one of the elephants he loved. This was terrible, and it could be a big problem for the future of London Zoo-and maybe for all of Britain's city zoos. London Zoo said that it would move its three elephants to a wild animal park outside London. Its director-general, Michael Dixon, said, “We are sorry that the elephants are leaving. There have been elephants at London Zoo since 1831.”
London Zoo is not only losing its elephants. The tigers will also leave soon and most of the bears have already gone. Outside the elephant house at London Zoo, a woman called Mary said she hoped the zoo could keep big animals. “This is the only way the young people can see animals without travelling to other countries,” she said.
Zoos are not very good places for animals, but they can help to keep them well. Children can also learn a lot about the animals when they visit zoos.
Another visitor, a man called Alan, was very angry. “If we send them back to the wild they will die. If you take away big animals, people will stop visiting London Zoo. It can survive at the moment, but it won't survive in the future.”
However, Mary Rosevear, director of the Federation of Zoos, believes that city zoos can survive without keeping large animals.

A. the elephants in the zoo will be killed
B. the elephant may also kill other people
C. it may have fewer visitors in the future
D. no one would like to be an elephant keeper any more
35. Which of the following is NOT true
A. The writer hopes that big animals except elephants should be kept in London Zoo.
B. London Zoo and the public have different ideas about where to keep the big animals.

七.写作(满分25分)
Dear Andrew,
How nice to hear from you again! I think it is natural for you not to get used to the life there. Here I have some suggestions for you.
First of all, you should respect the local customs there and try to involve yourself in the natives’ lives. Just as the saying goes,“When in Rome, do as the Romans do.” Secondly, don’t be afraid to communicate with American students and make friends with them. Friendship will bring you happiness. What's more, it is better for you to join in more outdoor activities with your friends, which may help you relax and have fun. Finally, mind your own manners and remain modest and honest when getting along with your friends.
I do hope my suggestions will help you. May you adapt to your new life and enjoy your stay there.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua
