Though Walt Disney has held the majority of the public's interest for going on hundred years, there are countless other animation houses who have produced incredible work that goes underseen.Below,we list four of the best non-Disney animated films that you've likely never experienced, but absolutely must!
Fantastic planet(1973)
This Science Fiction masterwork from Rene Laloix has proven so influential to film and popular culture, but most people aren't even aware of its existence. An imaginative film that comments on human/animal rights and racism, the film was virtually the first to break out into fantastic and serious new horizons.
Flight of dragons(1982)
Based on a book of the same name,Rankin/Bass' Flight of Dragons may not be as well-loved or memorable as their holiday films, but it's beautifully old-fashioned adventure film with a dated sort of charm. With a fantastic voice cast, dialogue and visuals sure to inspire young minds, and an unforgettable title song,Flight of Dragons is a humble—though essential—Rankin/Bass one.
Pom Poko(1994)
Studio Ghibli, the famous Japanese animation house, has produced many artists worth the name. For instance,Isao Takahata, whose remarkably entertaining Pom Poko is not only the most culturally specific but environmentally conscious films the studio has ever produced.
The Triplets of Belleville(2003)
This Academy Award-nominated charmer tells the story of a brave old lady who must rescue her grandson from the mafia. This delightfully old-fashioned plot is told in a delightful old-fashioned way:with limited dialogue, and through song and pantomime.
21.Which of the following animated films calls on protecting environment
A.Fantastic planet. B.Flight of dragons.
C.Pom Poko. D.The Triplets of Belleville.
22.Which of the following share the similarity of being out of fashion
A.Fantastic planet and Flight of dragons.
B.Flight of dragons and Pom Poko.
C.Pom Poko and The Triplets of Belleville
D.Flight of dragons and The Triplets of Belleville.
23.What is the purpose of the text
A.To recommend four animated films.
B.To introduce some animation houses.
C.To talk about Walt Disney and its films.
D.To show the development of animation industry.

Marc Chagall, one of the most influential modernist artists of the 20th century, died in France at the age of 98 in 1985.Widely admired by both his contemporaries and by later artists,he created his artistic path despite the many difficulties and injustices he faced in his long lifetime.
Chagall's early life with his Hasidic Jew parents was a strong influence on his work throughout his life.He carried a Russian mysticism, and an essential understanding of and sympathy for his religious roots wherever he travelled. While staying in St.Petersburg,he studied under Leon Bakst at the Zvantseva School of Drawing and Painting from 1908--1910.
Paris was at that time the centre of the modern art world. In 1910,Chagall moved there, drawn to this centre of creative attempt.Paris was then popular with the new art of Cubism, and exhibitions of the work of Cezanne,Van Gogh and early Matisse. He became interested in,and integrated into his painting, elements of cubism, and also new trends of futurism and orphism.
It was during this time that Chagall had his first commercial successes. Some of his paintings from this period, like Paris Through the Window, show his very successful attempts to fit into his new surroundings, while others, like The Birthday, and I and the Village are filled with homesickness for his old life in Vitebsk.
Chagall travelled over the world as his reputation of a painter and illustrator of high repute grew. However, the terrible event of the Second World War put Chagall in danger. As a high-profile Jew,he was put on a list of artists whose lives were at risk from the Nazis, and fortunately,in 1941 he escaped to America. In New York,Chagall was a fish out of water, but still managed to create an artistic life here, where he did not yet speak the language. The war was an extremely dark period for Chagall.America was never home to him and in 1947 he returned to France.
Chagall's work shows a masterful understanding of colour, and a deep emotional resonance(共鸣),which is perhaps why his work is still so popular today. His contribution to 20th century art world is one only very few artists can claim to have made.

The idea of low material desire, low consumption and refusing to work, marry and have children, concluded as a "lying down" lifestyle, recently struck a chord with many young Chinese who are eager to take pause to breathe in this fast-paced and highly-competitive society.
Many millennials(千禧一代)and generation Zs complained to the Global Times that burdens, including work stress, family disputes and financial strains, have pushed them "against the wall".They said they hate the“involution(内卷),”joking that they would rather give up some of what they have than get trapped in an endless competition against peers.
"Instead of always following the "virtues'of struggle, endure and sacrifice to bear the stresses, they prefer a temporary lying do wn as relief and adjustment, said a scholar. It is no wonder that some young people, under the growing pressures from child-raising to paying the housing loan today, would try to live in a simple way and leave the worries behind."
Interestingly, the majority of millennials and Gen Zs reached by the Global Times, who claim to be big fans of the lying down philosophy, acknowledged that they only accept a temporary lying down as a short rest.It is true that with the great improvement of living conditions, some Chinese youth have partially lost the spirit of hardship and are not willing to bear too much hard work. But in fact, lying down is not entirely comfortable.Young people who lie down always feel guilty about their constant loss of spirits far beyond their reach.
"Young people on campus have both aspirations and confusion about their future, but most of us have rejected setting ourselves up in chains to waste opportunities and challenges,a postgraduate student told the Global Times."It's no use running away.I have to 'stand up' and face the reality sooner or later.”
28.What might have caused the “lying down" lifestyle among the young
A.Improvements in living conditions.
B.Increasing material desires from families.
C.Growing pressure from family and social life.
D.Temporary adjustment to failure in competitions.
29.What can be inferred about the young generation from the text

B.They never really escape their responsibilities.
C.They might find their dreams out of their reach.
D.They would rather give up than take challenges.
30.How is the passage developed
A.By presenting facts and causes.
B.By making a comparison.
C.By giving examples.
D.By making classifications.
31.What does the text mainly talk about
A.Fierce competition causes the problem of "involution".
B.It is useless for the generation Zs to escape from the real world.
C.The pressure and hardship of many millennials and generation Zs.
D.The phenomenon of lying down" and the youth's attitudes towards it.

High cholesterol(胆固醇)affects a third of American adults. But it's not just us! Recent studies have indicated that cholesterol is also on the rise in some animals.
"And in all of these studies the idea was, well, they assumed that it was probably due to interactions with people and eating our food, but they didn't actually show that," said Andrea Townsend,a bird ecologist at Hamilton College in upstate New York, who found that urban crows(鸟鸦)did have higher cholesterol than rural crows in her earlier research.
To determine if eating our fast food really does raise the birds' cholesterol,Townsend and her fellows randomly selected nests from 10 family groups in the Clinton,New York for supplementation and took the next logical step in their research. She went to McDonald's and would pick up 125 burgers at a time.Of course, she needed all those cheeseburgers to feed crows and to monitor their diet-They'd go to their nest trees and toss the cheeseburgers, three to five a day, under their nest trees. And the parents would immediately swoop down, pick up the burgers and bring them to their nestlings.
As is expected, crows that dined on cheeseburgers did have higher cholesterol than crows who did without. But surprisingly, higher cholesterol didn't affect crows' chances of survival over a three-year period. And in one population, birds with higher cholesterol were arguably in better condition than other crows, and at least, they were chubbier, possibly because of the fast food rich in high-calorie,high-fat.
Crows can live more than 15 years, and Townsend says maybe a high-cholesterol diet makes its mark later in life,as it does in humans.Despite this, she believes the findings will be important on our way to figuring out our dietary influence on the health of wild animals since lots of other species living in urban areas eat our food, including many endangered species.
32.Why did Townsend experiment with the nestlings
A.To test health condition of the crows.
B.To come up with effective ways to save wild animals.
C.To see whether our diet will affect the cholesterol level of the crows.
D.To determine whether urban crows have higher cholesterol than rural crows.
33.What does the underlined word chubbier" in paragraph 4 mean
A.Thinner. B.Fatter. C.Smarter. D.Healthier.
34.What do we know about the cholesterol from the passage
A.All animals are facing the problem of high cholesterol.
B.Rural crows have a higher level of cholesterol than urban crows.
C.High cholesterol reduces crows' chances of survival over a five-year period.
D.Raised cholesterol is not necessarily connected with poor health in the short term.
35.What is Townsend's attitude towards their findings
A.Negative. B.Positive. C.Confused. D.Doubtful.

Do your parents check your texts Snoop through your room Read your diary Now that you're getting older,it's natural to want to keep some things private.__36__ They may worry that if they don't know every little detail of your life.they'll "lose" you to that big, scary world. You know they just hope to assure your safety…but at this stage in your life, you need to keep some things to yourself.__37__ So here's our three-step process to help you.
Earn their trust.
Establishing trust with your parents is a major part of getting them to give you more privacy.Unless they trust you to tell them the truth and stick to their rules, they won't know they can protect you from any potential danger.Always sticking to your word will help you earn more freedom and privacy.
__38__
Keeping things from your parents will only make them want to pry more, because they will assume you must be keeping something bad from them…even when you're not. When parents sense that you're being secretive,__39__ The best way to keep their imaginations from going into overdrive is to volunteer some information about your life before they ask.
Speak your mind.
If you've proven that you're trustworthy and you let your parents into your life but they still snoop in your roo m or read every single text you send,it's not surprising that you feel frustrated and violated.__40__ Tell them you feel like you're being punished and you want them to ask you what's happening in your life rather than snooping.
If you present your case maturely and give examples of how you've played by their rules,it will help them see that you really are mature enough to deserve some personal space.Good luck!
A.Let them in a little. B.Have a heart-to-heart talk. C.Let them think what they want. D.they just want to keep you safe. E.they immediately start thinking the worst. F.It is hard to convince your parents to give you some space. G.However, your parents may find it hard to accept that you aren't so little anymore.

Before I turned 10,I lost my parents. My brothers left Hyderabad after relatives adopted them, but I insisted on staying back to continue my education.I lived alone in a room that a family member allowed me to use rent-free.To support myself,I began to deliver newspapers.
I would wake up every morning by 5 am and walk five kilometers to the newspaper office.By 6 am,I would collect 50 copies of Manzil(Urdu Daily)—the bundle(一捆)must have weighed over 5kilograms.My working area spanned 3 kilometers. After distributing the copies,I would rush home—another 3 kilometers—quickly eat and be off to high school.
One winter morning in 1945,I got home after my deliveries to find a boy my age at my doorstep. He introduced himself as Afzal and said his father wanted to see me.A bit puzzled,I followed him back to his home.I was greeted at the door by Afzal's mother,Naseem. She served tea and snacks as Afzal's father,Mr.Kader, joined us.She gently asked me about my daily routine and I told her about my morning job."How many miles do you walk every day " Naseem asked me."A little more than six," I answered honestly.
My reply shocked her and left her speechless.Patting on my shoulder,Mr.Kader added,"Your newspaper editor is a friend of mine.He gave me your address,so I knew you lived close by.Then Afzal told us more about you."
Confused,I asked Afzal how he knew so much about me.His reply surprised me."Everybody, not just in school but the whole of Kachiguda, does!" he said.
Later,as I was about to leave after thanking them,Mr.Kader asked me to wait.
One minute later,I saw Mr.Kader show up again,wheeling a new bicycle.It was a Hercules,quite expensive in pre-Independence India.
