The Great Barrier Reef (Grande Barriere de Corail), The world's largest and longest coral Reef group, is located in The southern hemisphere. It runs along The northeast coast of Australia, from The Torres Strait in The north to The south of The Tropic of Cancer.It stretches for 2,011 kilometers, 161 kilometers at its widest point.There are 2,900 large and small coral islands with a unique natural landscape.

The southern tip of the Great Barrier Reef is 241 km from the shore at most, the northern tip is closer, and the nearest point is only 16 km from the shore.At low tide part of the reef emerges to form coral islands.Between the reefs and the shore is a convenient sea route.When the sea is calm, cruise ships pass through here, and the continuous colorful and multi-shaped coral scenery below becomes the best undersea wonders to attract tourists from all over the world.

The Great Barrier Reef was listed as a World Heritage Site in 1981.
Scientists found in March 2017 that most of the reef in the pristine northern part of the Great Barrier Reef had been killed by overheated waters in 2016.Further south, reefs in the middle of the Great Barrier Reef survived 2016 but are bleaching, a potential harbinger of another mass die-off.
大堡礁于1981年被列入世界自然遗产名录。
