New York City, the birthplace of hip-hop music, is thousands of kilometers away and, culturally, very different from northeastern Thailand. But for Thai rapper RachYo, the language of hip hop is universal.
The 18-year-old artist appears in a recent music video recorded in a rice field. RachYb is sitting on an old truck, rapping about trouble in a love relationship. The video has 57 million views on YouTube. "I rap about things that really happen to me," said RachYb. Based in Thailand's Nakhon Ratchasima province, the rapper says he mostly sings about girls.
The rising popularity of hip hop in Thailand has created stars that have drawn the attention of music industry leaders. Def Jam Recordings, a label of the world's three major music corporations, produces and publishes the work of some of the most popular hip-hop artists in the United States, including Rihanna, Chainz and Kanye West. Last year it opened offices in Thailand and Singapore. One of the first artists the company employed after expanding there was Thai rapper DaBoyWay, who has one million followers on the social media service Instagram, and is releasing a new album on Monday. Def Jam has also made agreements with five others from Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia.
Paul Sirisant heads the label's operations in Bangkok. He says Def Jam plans to employ four more Thai artists this year. Thai artists stand out from others in Southeast Asia because the language already includes sounds that rhyme in daily speech. So rapping in Thai sounds natural. The music has spread outside the nation's major cities.
Production agreements or record deals, are the dream for many artists, but not for RachYo. His recent video Nok, the Thai word for bird, received 80 million YouTube views, more than Thailand's population of nearly 70 million. He says he raps to express himself but he is not interested in a record deal with a label. "I like being home, in the country. I don't really like to go anywhere/5 he said.

C. Hip-hop was bom in New York by accident. D. Hip-hop has too many cultural differences.
5. What can we say about the Thai rapper
A. He usually lives in a city. B. His song tells about farmers 5 life.
C. His recent music video is well received. D. He largely sings about his own life and friends.

C. He will make records with Def Jam. D. He will develop abroad in future.

A 3,000-year-old ceremonial gold mask has become an unexpected social media hit in China after its recent discovery in Sichuan province. The artefact was one of 500 Bronze-Age relics found at the Sanxingdui archaeological site. Experts say the discovery could provide new insights on the ancient Shu state, which ruled the area before 316 BC.
But the mysterious half-faced mask has also brought about a popular meme and memorable videos on social media. As soon as the latest group of discoveries was announced on Saturday, users of micro-blogging platform Weibo started making pictures combining the mask with the faces of pop culture figures. The comment “Sanxingdui gold mask photo editing competition” has been viewed nearly 4 million times, and has brought numerous posts as netizens praised the "stunning" and "beautiful" mask. Officials at the museum for Sanxingdui — one of the most important archaeological sites in China — soon joined in on the fun. "Good morning, we've just woken up, apparently everyone's been busy doing some Photoshopping " the museum said in a recent Weibo post while sharing its own opinion about the meme. The museum also released a promotional animated music video starring the mask and other artefacts, while a rap song created by a TV host praising the ^intelligence95 of the ancient civilisation has spread widely.
It is not the first time a Chinese artefact has attracted the attention of social media users — in August, another relic was found to resemble the pig characters in popular video game Angry Birds. In addition to the gold mask, archaeologists at Sanxingdui have found bronze pieces, gold foils as well as artefacts made from ivory, jade and silk. The items were uncovered in six "sacrificial pits", said the National Cultural Heritage Administration, which the Shu civilisation used to offer sacrifices in prayers for prosperity and peace.
The Sanxingdui ruins were discovered by accident by a farmer in 1929. To date, more than 50,000 relics have been unearthed at the site, which is around 60km from the city of Chengdu.
8. What can we learn about the new discovery at Sanxingdui

C. It was the only Bronze-age relic there.
D. It could promote research into the ancient Shu.

C. culture figures D. numerous posts
10. Why did the Shu civilization use these relics as sacrifices

C. To wish for a better future. D. To reunite the whole family.
11. What is the passage mainly about

Leonardo da Vinci died 500 years ago at the age of 67. He was a universal genius who always enjoyed exploring ideas in many fields, including sculpting, drawing and pamting.
His surviving body of work as a painter is remarkably slim: Fewer than 20 artworks can be comfortably regarded as his, although two of them — the "Mona Lisa" and "The Last Supper” —are easily among the most famous in the world. “The Virgin and Child with Saint Anne," "St. John the Baptist" and the "Mona Lisa," now all hang at the Louvre in Paris. The French museum has two more Leonardos — one of which is currently lent to the Louvre Abu Dhabi—forming the largest collection in the world. Building on its collection, the Louvre will host a grand exhibition, starting in October, which it hopes will unite the largest ever number of Leonardo artworks under one roof. Organizers anticipate so much demand that a reservation will be required to attend, and tickets will go on sale in June.
Celebrations are already underway in Italy. Leonardo's hometown of Vinci is hosting a special exhibition featuring his earliest known drawing. In Milan, where Leonardo lived for over 20 years, celebrations will center around the Sfbrza Castle and the restored Sala delle Asse, where visitors can see original wall and ceiling decorations by Leonardo. In Venice, his most famous drawing, the “Vitruvian Man," will be on display until July—a rare occurrence, as the item's fragility means it's seldom exhibited.
In London, visitors will be able to see over 200 original drawings at the "Leonardo da Vinci: Life in drawing” exhibition, which opens at Buckingham Palace on May 24, though organizers say this is the largest exhibition of Leonardo's works in over 65 years.
The uncertainty that surrounds so many aspects of Leonardo's life and works has undoubtedly fueled the world's fascination with the Renaissance master. Five hundred years on it seems to be stronger than ever.
12. What does the author think of Leonardo Da Vinci
A. He was bored with art. B. He was curious about things.
C. He was dead despite achievements. D. He was intelligent in a certain aspect.
13. What can we infer about Leonardo's artworks from paragraph 2
A. The Louvre in Paris has four of his works. B. Only The Last Supper is regarded as the best.
C. More than 20 works are easily recognized as his. D. Their exhibition in Abu Dhabi may be quite popular.
14. Why is it rare for Vitruvian Man to be exhibited in Italy
A. It wasn't discovered until lately. B. It is the easiest to ruin while on show.
C. It is Leonardo's most famous drawing. D. Italy has difficulty renting it for the moment.
15. What is the best title for the text
A. The Life of Leonardo B. Leonardo's Artworks
C. Leonardo and Louvre D. Celebrations for Leonardo

Production agreements, or record deals, are the dream for many artists, but not for RachYo. His recent video Nok, the Thai word for bird, received 80 million YouTube views, more than Thailand's population of nearly 70 million. He says he raps to express himself but he is not interested in a record deal with a label. "I like being home, in the country. I don't really like to go anywhere/5 he said.

5. What can we say about the Thai rapper
A. He usually lives in a city. B. His song tells about farmers 5 life.

A. They will sure draw the attention of Def Jam. B. Neither of them come from the United States.

Five hundred years on, it seems to be stronger than ever.

故将what改为how。
根据句意可知,“this was a good chance to improving my spoken English as well when teaching him”是“I said yes happily”的原因,两个部分之间是因果关系,应用because引 导原因状语从句。故将but改为because。
a chance to do sth是常用搭配,表示“做……的机会”,其中动词不定式作后置定语修饰名词chance。故将improving改为improve。
5.考查动词时态。句意:所以我设法让别人明白我的意思。分析句子可知,manage是句中谓语动词,与主语I之间是主动关系,根据上下文可知,讲述过去的事情,应使用一般过去时态。故将manage改为managed。
6.考查代词。句意:当他能够熟练地使用筷子时,我也可以流利地说英语了,这出乎我的意料。根据上文可知,交换生James是男性,应用人称代词he。故将she改为he。
故将are改为is。
