Unit 2 Wildlife Protection
1. Animals are natural resources that people have wasted all through our history.
Animals have been killed for their fur and feathers, for food, for sport, and simply because they were in the way. Thousands of kinds of animals have disappeared from the earth forever. Hundreds more are on the danger list today. About 170 kinds in the United States alone are considered in danger.
Why should people care Because we need animals. And because once they are gone, there will never be any more.
Animals are more than beautiful or interesting or a source of food. Every animal has its place in the balance of nature. Destroying one kind of animal can create many problems.
For example, when farmers kill large numbers of hawks(鹰), the farmers' stores of corn and grain will be destroyed by mice. Why Because hawks eat mice. With no hawks to keep down their numbers, the mice multiplies quickly.
Luckily, some people are working to help save the animals. Some groups raise money to let people know about the problem. And they try to get the governments to pass laws protecting animals in danger.
Quite a few countries have passed laws. These laws forbid the killing of any animal or plant on the danger list. Slowly, the number of some animals in danger is growing.

Animals are more than... in the balance of nature."
根据第三段中的"Because we need animals." Every animal has its place in the balance of nature." Thousands of kinds of animals have disappeared from the earth forever." These laws forbid the killing of any animal or plant on the danger list."

Dear Sir or Madam,
I'm writing to give some suggestions to protect the wildlife living in and around our city. As we know, many species of wildlife are in danger of extinction. This is because the environment that they are living in has been destroyed greatly.
With the development of cities, water and air are seriously polluted. Their living areas are becoming smaller and smaller. They not only have little to cat, but also can be killed by human beings. These species of wildlife are important part of our life. Personally, more measures should be taken to protect them from being hurt. Firstly, more laws must be made to stop people from cutting down trees. Secondly, all the factories must clean the waste water before it is poured into rivers or lakes. Thirdly, more reserves should be set up so that they can live safely.
I hope my suggestions are of much help.
Yours sincerely,
