根据第一段第四至六句“In 1870, snails fell on Chester, Pennsylvania. Frogs rained on ancient Greece and modern-day Siberia. And fish are the most common kind of animal rain!”
通读第五段尤其是最后一句“So instead of falling from the sky, it is likely that these fish are being washed to the surface from flooded underground rivers.”

故选A。

Paragraph 1:
The doctor asked the boss to come again. So the boss visited the doctor once more, feeling happy for his progress on painting. But the doctor said, “You paint too many pictures at a time, which is not good for you. Now, forget what I have told you before, and I have some better advice to give you.” The boss thanked the doctor for his kindness. Instead of giving the boss advice, the doctor asked, “Do you have something that you hate or dislike ”
Paragraph 2:
The boss was puzzled, but still answered, “I don’t quite like classic music.” The doctor seemed satisfied with what the boss said, “That’s great. Classic music will be your new hobby. Go to a concert or play it at home every week. Make sure to concentrate, just as when you are working.” The boss left and called the doctor the next day. “That’s a terrible hobby, doctor,” he said. “While I am listening to classic music, I couldn’t stay focused and fell asleep halfway through!”

Text 10
M: Many people in the USA are really dependent on their cars to go to work or school. In fact, most American workers spend an hour driving to work each day. In order to drive in the USA, you have to go to your local Department of Motor Vehicles first, and take a written test to get your learner’s permit. If you pass this test, you can practice driving and then you can pass a road test and get your license. To prepare for the road test, you can take classes at a driving school. If you cannot, you can practice driving by yourself. If you are caught driving with only a learner’s permit, you may get into trouble with the law. Once you get your driver’s license in one state, you can drive in all of the states in America. Wherever you drive, you will see signs posted along the road indicating the speed limit. The local police use special equipment to test your speed. If they find you are speeding or driving over the speed limit, the police can stop you and give you a ticket.

A
The music world lost a rock and roll superstar this week when guitarist Eddie Van Halen passed away. He was only 65 years old.
Eddie Van Halen was a founding member of the band Van Halen. He formed the group in 1974 with his brother Alex, who played the drums. Van Halen released its most popular single, the song Jump, in 1983. Jump rose to the top of Billboard Magazine’s list of Hot 100 songs and stayed there for five weeks. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio lists Jump among its “500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll”. Eddie Van Halen released at least 15 record albums with his band over the years, selling more than 80 million around the world. In 2007, Van Halen entered the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
The Van Halen brothers were born in the Netherlands. Their father was a professional musician. Their mother was from Indonesia. In the 1950s, some Netherlanders did not approve of the mixed-race marriage, so the family moved to the United States. They settled in southern California. Eddie and Alex Van Halen had to learn English in their new land. Both brothers studied piano for years before getting interested in rock and roll.
As a child, Eddie was considered musically gifted. Eddie told a reporter he did not learn to read music. He said he would watch his teacher play and memorize his moves. He also said that he never took a class on playing the guitar, although he studied under Eric Clapton for a time. His father was among the first to recognize Eddie’s guitar skill. “You’ve got it, kid,” Eddie’s father said to him early on.
Eddie’s guitar playing was hard and fast. He was energetic while performing, often jumping like an acrobat (杂技演员) as he played. He was known for the way he tapped on the guitar strings with both hands. It influenced many musicians that followed.
21. What’s paragraph 2 mainly about
A. Eddie’s band.
B. Eddie’s Jump.
C. Eddie’s life story.
D. Eddie’s achievements.
22. Why did the Van Halen family move to the USA
A. To make a good living.
B. To escape racial prejudice.
C. To receive better education.
D. To experience different cultures.
23. What’s the author’s purpose of writing the text
A. To remember a famous musician.
B. To express sorrow for a superstar’s death.
C. To praise Eddie Van Halen for his contributions.
D. To show the excellence of Eddie Van Halen.
B
You’ve probably heard the expression “It’s raining cats and dogs.” Thankfully, our furry friends don’t actually fall from the sky. But what about other animals In 1870, snails fell on Chester, Pennsylvania. Frogs rained on ancient Greece and modern-day Siberia. And fish are the most common kind of animal rain! What’s really going on here
The most likely explanation is that spinning winds of a tornado act like a giant vacuum (真空吸尘器), sucking up fish and other life living in water. High up in the air, wind can bring them along for miles until they drop back to earth during a rainstorm.
Another idea is that it only appears that animals are coming down in the rain. Frogs and other creatures in beauty sleep can be flooded out of their resting places by a heavy downpour. When dozens of frogs are forced to the surface at once, it can look like they fell from the sky.
Of course, people don’t always use science to explain animal rain. Every spring, small fish are found on the streets of Yoro, Honduras, after a heavy rainstorm. According to a local tale, a priest (牧师) prayed for the hungry villagers for three days, and then fish rained from the sky.
Scientists examined the fish rain in Yoro for one year and discovered that the fish are blind. That was a clue! Sightless fish are commonly found in caves. So instead of falling from the sky, it is likely that these fish are being washed to the surface from flooded underground rivers.
While animal rain is unusual, it may become slightly more common. Whether fish and frogs are sucked up by tornadoes or washed out of their homes by floodwaters, as climate change warms the atmosphere, animal rain will continue to be part of our rough weather.
So the next time you witness a downpour, put out a bucket. You just might catch dinner!

Healthy sleep habits are associated with a lower risk of heart failure. Adults with the healthiest sleep patterns had a 42% lower risk of heart failure regardless of other risk factors compared to adults with unhealthy sleep patterns, according to a new research published today in the American Heart Association’s flagship journal Circulation.
Heart failure affects more than 26 million people, and more evidence indicates sleep problems may play a role in the development of heart failure. This observational study examined the relationship between healthy sleep patterns and heart failure and included data on 408,802 UK Biobank participants, aged 37 to 73 at the time of recruitment (招募). Incidence of heart failure was collected until April 1, 2019. Researchers recorded 5,221 cases of heart failure during a follow-up of 10 years.
Researchers analyzed sleep quality as well as overall sleep patterns. The measures of sleep quality included sleep length, insomnia (失眠) and snoring (打鼾) and other sleep-related features, such as whether the participant was an early bird or night owl and if they had any daytime sleepiness.
“The healthy sleep score we created was based on the scoring of these five sleep behaviors,” said Lu Qi, director of the Obesity Research Center at Tulane University in New Orleans. “Our findings highlight the importance of improving overall sleep patterns to help prevent heart failure.”
They also found the risk of heart failure was independently associated: 8% lower in early risers; 12% lower in those who slept 7 to 8 hours daily; 17% lower in those who did not have frequent insomnia; and 34% lower in those reporting no daytime sleepiness.
Participants’ sleep behaviors were self-reported, and the information on changes in sleep behaviors during follow-up was not available. The researchers noted other unmeasured or unknown adjustments may have also influenced the findings. Qi also noted that the study’s strengths include its novelty and advanced study design.

Long long ago, there was a wealthy boss who paid a visit to the doctor whom he believed in and said he had trouble in sleeping at night. The doctor examined him carefully and then declared his decision. “Your problem is that you get stressed and need to learn to relax. You must concentrate on pleasant things. Your business is developing well. There is nothing to worry about. Have you got any hobbies ”
The boss thought for a few moments and then said, “No, doctor, I haven’t. I don’t have any time for hobbies.” That was a striking answer.
The doctor looked at the boss and said, “That is your main trouble, you see. You are not sparing time for anything except your work. No matter how hard you work, you should rest and have some hobbies. Why don’t you pick up some hobbies Perhaps you can go to some places of interest in Scotland, for example The scenery is beautiful there: high mountains, romantic valleys with streams and small rivers, a lot of flowers along the paths. Or you can also learn to paint pictures. If you don’t find some hobbies and don’t learn to relax with them, you will be buried in less than five years. Then there will be no point in working so hard.”
The boss was frightened at what the doctor said. “All right, doctor,” the boss thought for a while and agreed. “I’ll try to have a hobby.”
The next day he called the doctor and said, “That was a very clever idea, doctor. Thank you very much. I took your advice and I’ve already painted fifteen pictures since I visited you last time.”
The doctor now realized that his patient had misunderstood what he meant. Although the boss had found a hobby, he was still not taking time to rest. That would not be helpful towards his sleeping problem.
