The playing field is never even or equal. Your skills and attitude play a major role in the outcome. Knowing what you can do to have an advantage can make the difference between success and failure.
My kids tell me it’s unfair to play with the big children. I tell them that’s right. Unfairness is a good thing. There is more to be gained by the effort when things seem unfair. It is true that many things in the world are unfair. But unfair things usually can be a boon to you. For example, the early bird catches the worm. It is unfair that the bird that sleeps in misses out on breakfast but it is nice to know that if it gets up early it is sure to get the worm.
I always try to explain to my kids that complaining about how unfair something is will get them nowhere. Instead, make the most out of it and get on the other side of it. Once you do that you are in the advantage. Above all, you have to focus on gaining that unfair advantage and in order to do that, build your inner strength, When you empower (武装) yourself, you are gaining skills or abilities, confidence and self-esteem (自尊).
You should look at your place in the world. Where do you want to be financially, spiritually, emotionally, and physically You are creating your own story when you empower yourself.
You can build all the advantages that you need to live the life that you want. If you haven’t yet, you need to make a list of all the things you want to experience in your new life. This will help you focus on building advantages so that you never have to say that it’s Not Fair. When you do this then you will be able to realize that unfairness is a good thing and you will want to teach those around you to see unfairness in this way too.
24. What docs the underlined word “boon” in Paragraph 2 probably mean
A. Something that is very terrible. B. Something that is very helpful.
C. Something that is very kind. D. Something that is very scared.
25. What is the best way to deal with unfairness according to the author
A. Make good use of it. B. Try to change it. C. Simply ignore it. D. Just accept it.
26. You are told to look at your place in the world in order to ________.
A. make yourself better B. be proud of yourself
C. have more confidence D. know others’ advantages
27. What is the text mainly about
A. The way to live a happy life. B. The right attitude to unfairness.
C. Being patient enough to succeed. D. Staying calm when treated badly.
C.
Earlier last month, when a young woman and a male friend were meeting up at a coffee shop in Tianjin, another man tried to chat her up and asked her for her WeChat ID.
The woman politely turned down the man’s request but a few days later she got to know that a video of her at the coffee shop had been posted on a short video-sharing platform. The woman was furious as the man who had tried to chat her up had not told her he was making a video nor taken her permission before uploading the video. She left a comment under the video, asking for its removal, and even reported the matter to the platform’s handlers. The account that posted the video was soon disabled.
But this case isn’t alone. Websites dealing in short-videos are filled with accounts that post such videos showing “how to chat up women”. Their purpose is to post such videos for money.
Taking a video of someone without their permission and uploading it violates(侵害) someone’s right to privacy, but such videos are being made and uploaded online with increasing frequency. It was only because the woman in this instance complained that the video of her was removed. What if her attention had not been drawn to the video One just has to browse these sites to find many such videos.
Obviously, there are loopholes in the supervision(监管漏洞)of some short-video platforms, as they are uploading contents that violate other people’s right to privacy.
Women need to watch out if a stranger tries to chat them up. If they suspect the person interacting with them might have a hidden camera somewhere, they should consider calling the police to better protect their right to privacy.
28. What is the writer’s intention for writing the first two paragraphs
A. Warning women of the possible harm.
B. Introducing the topic of violating privacy.
C. Stressing the seriousness of the phenomenon.
D. Commenting on the man’s unacceptable behavior.
29. What is the man’s most probable reason to upload the video
A. To impress viewers. B. To share the platform.
C. To contact the woman. D. To earn money.
30. What is the main idea of the paragraph 4
A. There are more and more privacy-violating videos on line.
B. It is wrong to take videos of people without their knowing.
C. It is of importance that we protect our right by complaining.
D. A number of people go to websites with improper materials.
31. What is the author’s attitude to the management of some short-video platforms
A. Positive. B. Satisfied. C. Negative. D. Doubtful.
D.
It’s been well over a year since COVID-19 first appeared. Although the virus continues to be a problem in many parts of the world, things are starting to turn back in our favor with the help of vaccines(疫苗).
Vaccine development started in February 2020, when it became clear to scientists that a solution to the pandemic would need a global effort to vaccinate as many people as possible. The CO—VAX(COVID-19 Vaccines Global Access)mechanism was then created to ensure equal access to safe and effective vaccines for all countries and regions, according to Business World.
Sure, this would take great effort, since vaccines typically take years to develop. However, COVID—19 needed faster development. The first COVID vaccine—the Pfizer vaccine—was approved by UK health authorities on Dec 2, 2020, according to science journal Nature.
This was made possible through the use of mRNA (信使核糖核酸). Vaccines developed with mRNA use the virus’ spike protein (刺突蛋白) to create antibodies (抗体) that can fight the panies like Moderna and Pfizer have created their own mRNA vaccines, according to the BBC.
However, these vaccines must be stored at very low temperatures, which is not possible everywhere. In response, Chinese companies like Sinopharm and Sinovac have developed vaccines using dead viruses instead of spike proteins. These vaccines can be kept at regular temperatures.
Although there have been rumors about vaccines being unsafe, the majority of people seem to realize the importance of vaccination for building mass immunity in order to stop the virus from spreading.
Zhang Wenhong, China’s leading expert on infectious diseases, said it’s good that the world has come to understand that the vaccines will protect us, according to Global Times. Zhang added that human beings belong to one family. Vaccines are a kind of medicine that we all must share in order to stay safe and healthy.
32. Why was COVAX created?
A. To create more COVID—19 vaccines. B. To protect people with COVID—19.
C. To help countries produce their own vaccines.
D. To make sure more people can get vaccines.
33. What is Paragraph 4 mainly about?
A. Who made the first COVID—19 vaccine.
B. How to prevent COVID—19.
C. How mRNA vaccines work.
D. Why scientists use mRNA to make spike proteins.
34. What is the difference between the Pfizer vaccine and Chinese vaccines?
A. Chinese vaccines can be kept at a normal temperature.
B. Chinese vaccines use viruses from spike proteins.
C. The Pfizer vaccine is based on a Chinese vaccine.
D. The Pfizer vaccine is suitable for children.
35. Which of the following might Zhang Wenhong agree with?
A. Medicine is the only way to deal with infectious diseases.
B. Some vaccines might be unsafe.
C. Mass immunity can't stop the virus from spreading.
D. Vaccines can keep all of us safe from COVID—19.

Robert and Henry were two friends in the same class. They always played together and went home together. One day, Robert and Henry were going home from school. On turning a corner, Robert cried out, “A fight! Let’s go and see!”
“No” said Henry. “Let us go home quietly and not meddle with (管闲事) this quarrel. We have nothing to do with it and may get into trouble. Also our parents are expecting to have dinner with us together and I don’t want them to worry about me.”
“You are a coward (懦夫), and afraid to go,” said Robert, and off he ran. Henry went straight home, and in the afternoon went to school as usual.
But Robert had told all the boys that Henry was a coward, and they laughed at him a great deal. From then on, they looked down on Henry and didn’t want to play with him together.
Henry was sad but he wasn’t angry with Robert for his rude behaviour, because he knew that they misunderstood him, and that they ought to be afraid of nothing but doing wrong. Thus, he just ignored the other boys’ laughter and continued to go to school and study as well. However, Robert didn’t invite Henry to go home together with him anymore. Instead, he had some other boys who also thought Henry was a coward. Every day after school, they didn’t go home directly but went to the river or somewhere to play games and had a lot of fun.
A few days later, Robert was bathing with his new friends in a river, and got out of his depth. He struggled and cried for help, but he failed. The boys who had called Henry a coward got out of the water as fast as they could, but they did nothing to help him.

Dear Jim,
Glad to hear from you. Thank you for your concern about my senior high school life.
Honestly speaking, the greatest challenge I have ever met since I entered high school is the English learning. Our English teacher speaks English the whole class, which is hard for me to follow. I knew I had to find a way out. So I referred to my deskmate’s notes after each class. At the same time, I spared some time every day to practise listening skills. To my relief, I have made some progress. Do you have any good suggestions for me
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节(满分25分)
One possible version:
Part 1:
It seemed as if Robert would be dying. Just at that moment, Henry happened to be passing by. Hearing the screams, Henry ran to the riverside, threw off his clothes and jumped into the water without hesitation. He reached Robert just as he was sinking the last time. By great effort, and with much danger to himself, he brought Robert to the shore.
Part 2:
Thus, Robert’s life was saved. Robert and his new friends were ashamed of having called Henry a coward. They realized that Henry had true courage. They said sorry to Henry for their rude behaviour and asked for forgiveness. Henry forgave them happily. He and Robert were friends again and they went home together as usual. From this, Robert learned what true courage was — never be afraid to do good, but always fear to do evil.
