Aswe all know,a number of excellent athletes performed well in the Tokyo Olympics. What
impressed me most was Quan Hongchan, the women’s 10m diving champion.
Born in an ordinary family, she trained so hard every day that she made a remarkable
achievement. Quan received perfect 10s by all seven judges on her way to winning the gold medal.
She had such astonishing dives, almost non-existent splashing! When watching her amazing
performance, I couldn’t help applauding her, feeling over the moon. Young as she is, she deserves
our respect.
Quan Hongchan’s achievements can be said to be the result of efforts. Just as the saying goes,
“Practice makes perfect”. Quan sets a good example for us.2021-2022学年河南省唐河县友兰实验高中高一上学期期中质量评估英语试卷

Originally built around A.D.70, the Arena of Nimes presents concertgoers with an interesting question: Should they enjoy the music, or marvel at the architecture The Arena is, after all, one of the world’s best-preserved Roman theaters. Many major touring acts plan stops at the Arena of Nimes, especially during the venue’s annual festival.
Sydney Opera House, Sydney, Australia

On November 27,1895, Alfred Nobel signed his third and last will at the Swedish-Norwegian Club in Paris. When it was opened and read after his death, the will caused a lot of controversy both in Sweden and internationally, as Nobel had left much of his wealth for the establishment of a prize. His family opposed the establishment of the Nobel Prize, and the prize awarders he named refused to do what he had requested in his will. It was five years before the first Nobel Prize could be awarded in 1901.
In this selected part of the will, Alfred Nobel dictates that his entire remaining assets (资产) should be used to donate “prizes to those who, during the preceding year, have conferred (带来) the greatest benefit to humankind”.
“All of my remaining realisable assets are to be used as follows: the capital, which is converted (换算) to safe securities, is to be a fund, the interest on which is to be distributed annually as prizes to those who, during the preceding year, have conferred the greatest benefit to humankind. The interest is to be divided into five equal parts and distributed as follows: one part to the person who made the most important discovery or invention in the field of physics; one part to the person who made the most important chemical discovery or improvement; one part to the person who made the most important discovery within the field of physiology or medicine; one part to the person who, in the field of literature, produced the most outstanding work in an idealistic direction; and one part to the person who has done the most or best to advance fellowship among nations, the abolition or reduction of standing armies, and the establishment and promotion of peace congresses. The prizes for physics and chemistry are to be awarded by the Swedish Academy of Sciences; that for physiological or medical achievements by the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm; that for literature by the Academy in Stockholm; and that for champions of peace by a committee of five persons to be selected by the Norwegian Storting. It is my express wish that when awarding the prizes, no consideration be given to nationality, but that the prize be awarded to the worthiest person, whether or not they are Scandinavian.”
24. What does paragraph 1 mainly tell us about the Nobel Prize
A. The background of the Nobel Prize.

Owning a home will make you 326,000 wealthier over a 30-year period than renting, before potential house price growth is even considered, a report has suggested.
The Equity (股本) Release Council, a trade body, found that nearly one in three homeowners saw their mortgage (按揭贷款) as an investment in their future. Nearly half of homeowners with a mortgage also agreed they were able to save more because their loan was cheaper than renting, thanks to unprecedented (没有先例的) low interest rates. About 40 per cent added that they believed having a mortgage in later life was becoming more acceptable and 57 percent said that they were looking at ways to release equity from their properties.
The report Home advantage: intergenerational perspectives on property wealth in later life examined trends that have changed the financial landscape for pensions and home ownership over the past three decades. The survey covered 5,000 UK adults questioned in May 2021. It compared the cost of renting privately with paying a mortgage on the average first-time buyer. It assumed that average rents rise by 2 per cent each year and that the homeowner takes a 95 per cent loan-to-value mortgage on a 220,000 home. It takes account of other costs of owning, such as maintenance. Owning a home is expected to become more critical to families’ financial security and wellbeing in later life, but the report also warned of lifelong inequality for those — generally younger people --- unable to buy.
David Burrowes, the Equity Release Council chairman, said: “For those who manage to buy their own home during their working lives, the extra confidence and flexibility this provides will be even more critical to their financial wellbeing than it is today.”
28. What is the first paragraph intended for
A. Being an evidence. B. Coming straight to the point.
C. Acting as an example. D. Being a detail.
29. Why does the author introduce the report in Paragraph 3
A. To show the difficulty for younger people to rent a home.
B. To explain why younger people own a home.
C. To voice his views on mortgage .
D. To show the difficulty for younger people to own a home
30. What effect would David Burrowes’ words have on homeowners
A. Encouraging. B. Disturbing. C. Discouraging. D. Surprising.
31. Which of the following can be the best title for the text
A. Cost of Renting Higher than Owning
B. Cost of Owning Higher than Renting
C. Owning Your Home Makes You Wealthier than Renting
D. Renting Makes You Wealthier than Owning Your Home

Videos and livestreams with beauty tips are quite common nowadays. But if the tutor is just 5 years old, we should think twice about accepting the trend.
In an age where online celebrities (名人) and influencers control so many social platforms, chances are children are being exposed online to endless beauty products. There, child celebrities are pushing lipsticks (口红), mascara, rouge and foundation in their makeup courses. “I just celebrated my 5th birthday, and now I am about to do this peach blossom makeup,” said a 5-year-old in a voiceover for her online video beauty tutorial.
Cosmetics for kids sends a negative message about self-worth by putting too much emphasis on outer beauty at too early an age. Sometimes, in some of the online beauty courses, makeup equals a hypersexualization (纵欲化) which can have dangerous long-term effects. On the other hand, there are a great number of beauty products across many categories. It takes a lot of energy for kids to get familiar with using a certain type of cosmetics, depriving (使丧失) them of time better spent studying or playing outside. Moreover, in many cases, social media gets addictive. Exposing children early on to makeup and “online fame” could become an unhealthy indulgence (放纵).
Many online influencers often say, “Your kindergarten peers are using these products, so ask your mother to buy them for you as well.” Upon hearing such guidance, children as young as kindergarteners are quick to follow the fashion. Seeing beauty trends at such a young age also means youngsters face the anxiety and self-esteem issues surrounding body image far too early in life. Though reminding children they are beautiful just as they are can’t always compete with the attraction of the steady stream of marketers and influencers promising virtual perfection, parents and schools should still serve as guides for kids, teaching them a more multidimensional perspective that instead gets to the heart of what real beauty involves.
32. Why does the author say “we should think twice about accepting the trend” at the beginning
A. We should be calm. B. We ought to be active.
C. We should think much. D. We ought to follow the trend.
33. What causes the young to value outer beauty according to the third paragraph
A. Social media. B. Beauty courses.
C. Child celebrities. D. Cosmetics for kids.
34. Which of the following may be responsible for children surrounded by body image
A. Kindergarten peers. B. Parents and schools.
C. Online influencers. D. Virtual perfection.
35. What can we infer about the author’s attitude to beauty trends at younger age from the text
A. Active. B. Indifferent. C. Objective. D. Pessimistic.

Autumn Equinox (秋分) lies at the midpoint of autumn, dividing autumn into two equal parts. 37 When the cold air heading south meets the declining warm and wet air, rain is the result. The temperature also drops frequently.
38

39
By Autumn Equinox, olives, pears, chestnuts, beans, and other plants are mature. It is time to pick and eat them.
Season for enjoying chrysanthemums
