Each time Chinese New Year is approaching, preparations are underway around the world. Here are some Chinatowns for those outside of China wishing to mark the day.
London
Although it may not be as large or as long-built as others, having only become a center for the Chinese community during the 1950s, London’s Chinatown is perfectly formed little firework that knows how to see in the year with a bang. Decorated with red lanterns, previous years have seen shows with acrobatics(杂技), martial arts(武术),dance and opera nearby.

Bangkok
With an about 100-year-old history, the Thai capital’s Chinatown contains complex streets offering all kinds of tasty treats, clothes, toys and antiques. Sunday market days are such a good time to get the full atmosphere of the neighborhood. The area is also known for its gold dealers, whose shops line the road.
Mauritius
Found in Port Louis, this Mauritian Chinatown shows the island nation’s rich multicultural diversity. Established in the early years of the 20th century by settlers from China, its tiny shops and restaurants serve locals and visitors. During the Chinese Spring Festival, the most exciting sight is the Dragon Dances on Rue Royale when Chinese musicians and dancers perform the traditional lion dances through the streets.

My color television has given me nothing but a headache. I was able to buy it a little over a year ago because I had my relatives give me money for my birthday instead of a lot of clothes that wouldn’t fit. I let a salesclerk fool me into buying a discontinued model. I realized this a day later, when I saw newspaper advertisements for the set at seventy-five dollars less than I had paid. The set worked so beautifully when I first got it home that I would keep it on until stations signed off for the night. Fortunately, I didn’t got any channels showing all-night movies or I would never have gotten to bed.
Then I started developing a problem with the set that involved static (静电) noise. For some reason, when certain shows switched into a commercial, a loud noise would sound for a few seconds. Gradually, this noise began to appear during a show, and to get rid of it. I had to change to another channel and then change it back. Sometimes this technique would not work, and I had to pick up the set and shake it to remove the sound. I actually began to build up my arm muscles (肌肉) shaking my set.
When neither of these methods removed the static noise, I would sit helplessly and wait for the noise to go away. At last I ended up hitting the set with my fist, and it stopped working altogether. My trip to the repair shop cost me $62, and the set is working well now, but I keep expecting more trouble.

The endangered pandas in Qinling Mountains might face a new threat(威胁): the loss of their food, bamboo, which makes up 99% of their meals.
Adult pandas spend most part of the day eating bamboo and have to take in at least 40 pounds a day to stay healthy. However, a new study published in Nature and Climate Change warned that they may soon find their food gone because most of the bamboo in Qinling Mountains might disappear by the end of the century as a result of rising temperature worldwide.
A team made up of researchers from Michigan State University and the Chinese Academy of Sciences has studied the effects of climate change on the bamboo in Qinling Mountains. They have found that bamboo is very sensitive to climate changes. “80% to 100% of the bamboo would be gone if the average temperature increases 3.5 degrees worldwide by the end of the century.” said Liu Jianguo, one of the report’s authors.
He added, “This is how much the temperature would rise by 2100 even if all countries will keep their promises in the Paris Agreement. But you know what is happening around the world.”
In recent years, China has been trying its best to protect the endangered pandas by setting up more and bigger natural reserves.
“But it is far from being enough and the endangered pandas need cooperation from the rest of the world, because their future is not just in the hands of the Chinese,” said Shirley Martin from World Wildlife Fund but not a member of the team.
The Qinling Mountains, in the southwest of China, are home to about 260 pandas. That is about 13% of the China’s wild panda population. In addition, about 375 are living in research centers and zoos in China.
8. What can we learn from the first paragraph
A. Lots of the bamboo in Qinling Mountains will probably disappear.
B. Qinling Mountains cannot provide enough bamboo for the pandas.
C. Pandas in Qinling Mountains are just threatened by the loss of food.
D. Pandas have already eaten 99% of the bamboo in Qinling Mountains.
9. What does Liu Jianguo mean
A. China needs more help from World Wildlife Fund.
B. Bamboo is sensitive to the changes of temperature.
C. China is making great efforts to protect the pandas.
D It is difficult to control the temperature rise within 3.5℃.
10. How many wild pandas are there in China
A. About 260. B. About 635.
C. About 2,000. D. About 2,635.
11. Which can be the best title for the text
A. The Disappearance of Bamboo B. Necessity to Change Pandas’ Food
C. Efforts Made to Save Pandas D. A New Threat Faced by the Pandas
【答案】8. A 9. D 10. C 11. D

Can you imagine living without cars, computers or telephones Some people in the rainforest and mountains of Venezuela and Brazil do just that. One tribe, the Yanomami, has lived the same way for thousands of years. They only have numbers for one, two and more than two, and they have never invented the wheel. But they have also been called some of “the last free people on earth.”
In the late 1920s, researchers found a tribe of people untouched by modern society. This was the first reported meeting with the Yanomami, who were living deep within the South American jungle.
Scientists agree that their location deep in the forest helped their culture unchanged. Until recently, most Yanomami still lived in isolated regions. Everything they needed came from the rain forest. They hunted, fished and farmed the land. Then a discovery brought the outside world to them. And along with it came deadly changes.
Gold was discovered in Yanomami in the 1970s. By 1987, around 80, 000 miners had moved into the area. In a fight to take over the land, they killed some Yanomami. They also brought into new sicknesses, including the common cold and malaria. Today over 62 percent of Yanomami show signs of malaria.
Just as deadly were the results of mining, including polluted streams and cleared forests. Within just seven years their population fell by 20 percent.
Today governments and international organizations are looking for ways to protect the Yanomami. The Brazilian government has reserved a large area of land for the tribe. And in 1990, Brazil ordered all the miners out of Amazon region. Yet these things might not be enough. Gold is so valuable that miners keep going back and harming the Yanomami's way of life.

A. In the 1970s B. In the late 1920s C. In 1987 D. In 1990

A. The Yanomami is the only remaining "untouched" people on earth.
B. Most Yanomami know the exact meaning of the number 8.
C. The Yanomami learned to use wheels long before.
D. Before miners arrived, the Yanomami had never suffered from malaria.
14. Which of the following was NOT the reason for the sharp decrease of the Yanomami's population ________.
A. They starved to death B. They were killed in the fight
C. Their living environment was destroyed D. They were killed by the new illnesses brought by miners
15. What can be inferred from the passage?________.
A. The discovery of gold is beneficial to the Yanomami
B. Gold mining made no difference to the Yanomami
C. Miners are a great threat to the protection of the Yanomami
D. Nowadays no miners remain in Amazon Region
【答案】12. B 13. D 14. A 15. C

【分析】这是一篇说明文。旨在告知读者如何有效的制止网络欺凌。
【16题详解】
上文“If you are being bullied at school you can usually get away from the bullies when you are at home.”说明校园欺凌会因为回家不呆在学校而远离。后文“Cyber bullying can be done anonymously(匿名)…You might feel like it will never end.”说明网络欺凌可以是匿名的,你可能会感觉它永无休止。故可推断和校园欺凌不一样的是,网络欺凌不会消失。C项“But with cyber bullying there is no way out.(但网络欺凌无处可逃)”以“但是”作为转折,说网络欺凌不会消失符合前后文的语境。故选C。
【17题详解】
上文“You might feel like it will never end.”说明“你”可能感觉网络欺凌永无止境。后文“We want you to know there are things you can do to make it stop.”指出“你”可以做一些事来终止网络欺凌。故可推测出空格处为承上启下的转折句。D项“No one has the right to make you feel this way.(没人有权让你有这样的感觉)”与上文过渡自然,this way指代的就是上文的it will never end。故选D。
【18题详解】

【20题详解】
上文“.In addition, you must never give out any personal details on the Internet.”指出你不能把自己的个人信息细节泄露在网络上。选项G“Such information includes your real name, address, age or phone number.”指出上文说的个人信息包含真实姓名、地址、年龄和电话号码,前后过渡自然。故选G。

47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Dad and Mom had got to go on a four-day business trip. They taught their elder son Daniel and younger daughter Jane how to feed and look after their dog, Spot, how to take good care of themselves—learning to cook if they could, or ordering pizza—with money left on the table—if they were busy, and told them to keep their rooms clean and tidy. They asked Daniel to be in charge.
On the very morning when the parents left, Mom kissed them and said to Daniel gently, “Young man, do take care of Spot and Jane.” Daniel promised, “I will, Mom.”
Too excited to fall asleep again, Daniel and Jane jumped out of bed, calling out each other to get up. Their pet dog, Spot, heard the similar voice and rushed in, with a ball in its mouth. Jane stuck(伸) her head into Daniel’s room,“Spot got up an hour earlier. Let’s walk it.” Daniel said excitedly, “I’m coming, but, Jane, don’t forget to keep your room clean and tidy.” “I will.”
They ran with the dog in the yard and threw the ball away for Spot to bring it back. They had fun playing with Spot the whole morning. Washing Spot was slow and tiring as it was the first time they had done it. Then Daniel settled down to his homework while Jane did her reading with interest.
The following day, Jane begged her brother to order pizza for lunch. Daniel agreed excitedly, “We haven’t tasted that for long and we behave ourselves, right ”After a while, he added, “We should save money, too.” Within half an hour, they treated themselves to a big pizza. However, in the afternoon, Spot looked sick, lying lazily and unwilling to move. Daniel was concerned about the dog and took it to the pet clinic immediately with Jane as their parents had done.
注意:(1)续写词数应为150左右;
(2)请在答题卡的相应位置作答。

【答案】When Dad and Mom arrived a day earlier, they were amazed to find everything in a mess. Mom was angry and shouted, “Listen to me, young man—I left you in charge. We thought you would act like an adult, but look at the mess. The money for food has been used up but why does Spot still look hungry What did you do with the money we left ” Jane explained anxiously, “Mummy, Spot is sick, so we spent the rest of the money taking it to the pet clinic.”
Daniel ran into his room, with tears in his eyes,“Jane, there is no need to explain and Mom won’t trust me any longer.” Comforting Mom, Dad said calmly, “There is probably a good explanation for everything.” Hearing the little daughter’s words, Mom understood that the reason why they had no time to clean the house was that they waited for Spot at the clinic all day. Mom regretted acting so angrily and was satisfied that Daniel learnt to be responsible for others. She apologized to Daniel sincerely and hugged him in her arms, saying that “you are really growing up into a young man.”

San Francisco
San Francisco’s Chinatown is perhaps the most famous in the United States. The city was the main entry-point for Chinese who had crossed the Pacific to the USA during the early 19th century. Between the Grant Avenue and the Stockton Street, this historic area is a local treasure, attracting more visitors per year than the Golden Gate Bridge.

4. Why did the author say he was fooled into buying the TV set
A. He got an older model than he had expected.
B. He couldn’t return it when it was broken.
C. He could have bought it at a lower price.
D. He failed to find any movie shows on it.
5. Which of the following can best replace the phrase “signed off” in Paragraph 1
A. ended all their programs B. provided fewer channels
C. changed to commercials D. showed all-night movies
6. How did the author finally get his TV set working again
A. By shaking and hitting it. B. By turning it on and off.
C. By switching channels. D. By having it repaired.
7. How does the author sound when telling the story
A. Curious B. Anxious
C. Cautious D. Humorous

D. It is difficult to control the temperature rise within 3.5℃.
10. How many wild pandas are there in China
A. About 260. B. About 635.
C. About 2,000. D. About 2,635.
11. Which can be the best title for the text
A. The Disappearance of Bamboo B. Necessity to Change Pandas’ Food
C. Efforts Made to Save Pandas D. A New Threat Faced by the Pandas
