All I really want to do during the summer holiday is travel, teach, and learn languages (this is my hobby), see things, and build great friendships. I’d like people aged 17-20 to get in touch with me, both girls and boys. It’s better if you’re from Beijing or Tokyo. I’ve made 15 friends over the Internet. If you’d like to be one of them, send me an email at blink001@. My MSN is blink001@. I’d love to be your friend!

I’m fond of EHS because English is my favorite subject. Though that sounds like the beginning paragraph of a suck-up(奉承者), it’s true. I love reading and writing, and while I may not be the best at it, certainly try my hardest. I intend to run for EHS Vice President, along with Jordan Pincus, because I feel that’s the best position for me in this Honor Society. I want to be able to share my own ideas on how to better improve EHS without being the absolute top, and what better position for that than Vice President.
I feel I’m qualified for this position because I’m full of great ideas and love English. I actually get English, and get along very well with others, which is very important for a board member. As a team, Jordan and I work very well together. Despite some disagreeing from time to time, the two of us actually end up getting more done at a faster pace, and because we spend most of our time together, communication issues are not a problem. Nothing is better for Vice Presidents to have than two people who are always together. On top of that, we are both devoted to anything we start, so EHS will never be ignored by either of us.
I will contribute all I can to EHS whether in making sure meetings run smoothly or finding new projects/events for the club to do as a whole. I personally believe that I am fit for the job and will be able to perform tasks above the highest exceptions placed on me, which may sound a little prejudiced but I really think I'm fit for this! Thank you for reading this and taking me into consideration.
24. Why does the author want to be EHS Vice President
A. He is very good at English. B. He has a talent for leadership.
C. He is very willing to help others. D. He thinks he is fit for the position.
25. What does the author mainly tell us in Paragraph 2
A. The author and Jordan can cooperate well.
B. The author and Jordan are good friends.
C. Jordan often quarrels with the author.
D. Communication is very important for friends.
26. What does “that” in Paragraph 2 refer to
A. Being EHS Vice President. B. Being always together.
C. Communicating with each other. D. Having good ideas.
27. What can we know about EHS
A. It is short for “Honor Society”. B. It is a club related to English.
C. It can improve the students’ results. D. It often organizes some activities.
C
Their beautiful call suggests the arrival of spring, but the routes taken by cuckoos(杜鹃) during their annual migration(迁徙) have remained a mystery. Now, though, scientists from the British Trust for Omithology(BTO) have revealed the details of their remarkable 10,000-mile journey, with the help of tracking devices.
Five male birds were caught in Norfolk last May and fitted with satellite-tagged “backpacks’’ before being released. The scientists then monitored their progress over 12 months as they flew to Africa in the autumn, and returned in the spring.
The project was carried out to discover why every year fewer of the birds return to Britain. Between 1995 and 2010,the population of cuckoos spending summer here fell by almost half, and the number is continuing to decline. Previously, the lack of information about the cuckoos’ long migration has hampered the understanding of how to help conserve the birds.
Earlier this year, it was reported that cuckoos arrived in the UK much earlier than normal. Their call was recorded by ornithologists(鸟类专家) as early as February, a month ahead of their usual arrival.
Like all migrating animals, cuckoos respond to the changing seasons. They depend on lush plants to provide the fruit and food for insects that they feed on. This reliance on seasonal patterns means that a changing climate could make an already challenging journey impossible for them.
28. What is the main purpose of the project
A. To track cuckoos’ 10,000-mile journey.
B. To better understand the habits of cuckoos.
C. To find out what happens during cuckoos’ journey.
D. To discover why the population of cuckoos is declining.
29. The underlined word “hampered” in Paragraph 3 probably means________.
A. prevented B. deepened C. improved D. affected
30. When do cuckoos usually arrive in Britain
A. In January. B. In February. C. In March. D. In April.
31. Cuckoos arrived in the UK much earlier than normal probably because of________.
A. 1acking food B. changing climate
C. changing routes D. cold spring in the UK
D
You cannot judge a book by looking at its cover! That's what a group of parents and students in Hangzhou has found out this term.
When they came to school in September the students were shocked to learn that their class teacher was to be a P.E. teacher. How could someone who teaches table tennis and basketball know anything about academics Their parents were equally worried and pressured the school to replace ''Miss Muscle'' with a ''Miss Brain. '' However, the principal(校长) did not give in to the pressure and now the parents and students are happy that the school firmly insisted.
After three months, the P.E. teacher, whose name is actually Miss Su, has turned out to be a wonderful class teacher. She is intelligent, kind and helpful. She is a good leader who keeps her students active in their studies and participate in school activities. And she has won the parents over with her real caring for their children. In other words, Miss Su, the P. E. teacher, is ''pretty extraordinary. ''
The early negative reaction against Miss Su is an example of bias(偏见). A ''bias'' is wrong in thinking that has an influence on a person's opinions and decisions. For example, in business, tall men are more likely to be bosses. In the United States, anyone who is above 190 centimeters tall can expect to have a higher salary and to get more promotions than his shorter co-workers. Similarly, women have a difficult time climbing the career ladder because their bosses(mostly men!) think that women lack leadership skills and the necessary toughness to make difficult decisions. Neither of these opinions is based on facts or the talents of the individual. They're just bias.
32. What seemed to be the parents' early reaction to Miss Su
A. They were excited. B. They were amazed.
C. They were worried. D. They were interested.
33. Why is Miss Su considered to be ''pretty extraordinary''
A. She is an excellent P. E. teacher.
B. She was finally removed.
C. She really cared about her students.
D. The headmaster was proved to be wrong.
34. The examples are given in the last paragraph to show .
A. tall men are usually excellent B. people are often judged with bias
C. opinions should be based on facts D. women lack leadership skills
35. What's the author's attitude towards the bias
A. Disagreeable. B. Acceptable.
C. Careless. D. Curious.

“Surprise!” was the first thing I heard when I opened the door. My family and friends were all smiling at me. There were colorful balloons all over the house, a big poster saying "HAPPY BIRTHDAY'', and of course a cake with 12 candles. It was a wonderful feeling. I knew that I had finally turned twelve and I might possibly get the thing I wanted most.
I saw my mom and dad coming towards me with a small box which seemed to be a birthday present. When I opened the box, I couldn't believe my eyes. I had really gotten a mobile phone! Throwing myself into their arms, I let out a cry of joy, “Thank you! I love you guys!”
“You're welcome. We knew this was going to make you happy but we didn't only get you this because you turned twelve, but also because you are doing well in school. We expect you to keep getting good grades."
“Of course I will." I said confidently.
As soon as I got to school the next morning, I was showing off my phone and asking everyone for their number. It was cool how I got so many contacts on the first day.
It felt like I didn't even exist in that class anymore. I wouldn't pay much attention to the teachers because I was too busy on my phone. However, I didn't get caught using it.
I am pretty sure that the teacher did notice that I stopped paying attention to her because a week later we took a test and I failed. What was worse, my mom had to sign the test.
It was hard to show my mom the test. She was used to seeing A's and B's on my tests. Finally, I showed it to her, and she couldn't believe it. She was angry but most of all, she was disappointed.
注意:
1.续写短文的词数应为150左右;
Paragraph 1:
Realizing the reason for my failure, my parents started to dislike the fact that I had a phone.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Welcome to On the Town from BBC, I’m Neil. This is the program where we visit some of the most interesting places in London. Today we’re at the British Museum.
Firstly, I’d like to brief you on the history of this world-famous museum. It was founded by King George II in 1753 to house the collection left by Sir Hans Sloane.
It contains collections throughout time, across the globe. You can see Egyptian mummies, ancient Greek statues and even Terracotta Warriors borrowed from Xi’an Museum under one roof. Financed by the UK government, it is free to visit the permanent collection. You’ll need tickets to visit some rooms, though.
As for recommendation, you can visit the great Reading Room, round in shape in the center of the museum. You might also see the Lewis Chessmen. It is a large group of chess pieces carved from whale bone. See the chess set in Room 40. And you can see the huge head of Egyptian pharaoh in Room 4 as well as the Easter Island Statue in Room 24.
If you want to learn more, please go to our website.
Hope you enjoyed this program and see you next time.

I will contribute all I can to EHS, whether in making sure meetings run smoothly or finding new projects/events for the club to do as a whole. I personally believe that I am fit for the job and will be able to perform tasks above the highest exceptions placed on me, which may sound a little prejudiced but I really think I'm fit for this! Thank you for reading this and taking me into consideration.
24. Why does the author want to be EHS Vice President
A He is very good at English.
D 25. A 26. B 27. B

that是远指,由前面的“Nothing is better for Vice Presidents to have than two people who are always together.(对副总裁来说,没有什么比两个人总是在一起更好的了。)”可知,“that”指的是“总是在一起”,即Being always together。故选B。

D 29. A 30. C 31. B

根据第三段“the lack of information about the cuckoos long migration has hampered the understanding of how to help conserve the birds.”(关于杜鹃鸟长期迁徙的信息的缺乏hampered人们对如何帮助保护这种鸟类的了解)可知,信息缺乏肯定会阻碍人们对这种鸟的了解。
根据倒数第二段“Their call was recorded by ornithologists(鸟类专家) as early as February,a month ahead of their usual arrival.”(鸟类学家早在2月就记录下了它们的叫声,比它们通常到达的时间提前了一个月)可知,平常鸟类飞到英国是三月,而今年在二月份就飞到了英国。
根据最后一段“Like all migrating animals, cuckoos respond to the changing seasons. They depend on lush plants to provide the fruit and food for insects that they feed on.This reliance on seasonal patterns means that a changing climate could make an already challenging journey impossible for them.”(像所有迁徙的动物一样,布谷鸟对季节的变化做出反应。

B. Acceptable.
C. Careless. D. Curious.
C 33. C 34. B 35. A

B. people are often judged with bias
Neither of these opinions is based on facts or the talents of the individual. They're just bias. A.

故填behavior/behaviour。
根据空格前动词短语be eager有动词短语be eager to do sth.(渴望做某事),故填to learn。
故填in。
故填what。
分析句型可知,此处“____10____ is a necessary basis of setting up a good teacher-student relationship.” 故填which。

One possible version:
Dear Tom,
I’m sorry to know that you have trouble adapting yourself to senior high school. I’m writing to offer some suggestions.
First of all, why not communicate with your teachers frequently By doing this, your teachers will know your inner thoughts and help you solve this problem. What’s more, if I were you, I would be engaged in different kinds of activities held by class actively. More importantly, it would be a good idea if you make some friends with common interests. If you do this, you can share happiness and sadness with them, and they can also help you get rid of loneliness at high school.
I hope you will find these suggestions useful.
Yours,
Li Hua

注意:
1.续写短文的词数应为150左右;
Paragraph 1:
Realizing the reason for my failure, my parents started to dislike the fact that I had a phone.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 2:
Then I started to wonder if I was wrong.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Realizing the reason for my failure, my parents started to dislike the fact that I had a phone. They said they had noticed that I never paid attention to them. It was like I had my own little world. So they thought we didn't communicate as much with my phone. They regretted having given me a phone, which made me ignore the family and study.
Then I started to wonder if I was wrong. A week later I tried going a whole day without a phone and it didn’t go that badly. I had so much fun because I was actually spending time with my family and paying attention to them. From that day, I had a different opinion towards phones. Phones really take you away from the rest of the world. I' m not saying that phones are bad and not to use them, but you do have to spare some time to spend with your family and not get stuck with your phone all day.
