【原文】M: I’m going to talk about an activity that I enjoy doing, and that’s fishing. Actually, I think someone said that fishing’s the most popular hobby in the world. So how do I get ready Well, if you go fishing, first you have to get up early. Then you need to pack all your equipment and that includes, er, like a long, thin stick, a box to put the fish in and some little things that you need to attract the fish. Also, you need to take some warm clothes. And lastly, you need to take something to drink and maybe a sandwich because you can get hungry. There are lots of places where you can go fishing. Some people go to rivers or lakes, but I live near the beach, so I fish in a small boat. I wear a life jacket (救生衣) ,because I usually boat out to sea alone—about a kilometer—so people can’t always see me. Sometimes it may be dangerous. However, fishing is really quite simple. You just sit and wait. I love it mainly because it’s so peaceful. Also, it’s very exciting when you catch something. All in all, it’s a wonderful activity—it’s like a sport, but you’re just competing with yourself or with the natural world.

阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。

Recently a growing number of foreign universities, such as the University of Cambridge, are accepting China’s gaokao results as one of their admission standards. Is the Chinese college entrance exam being recognized globally?Forum readers share their opinions:
Cecilia Zhang(China)
The gaokao is a really tough exam. If possible,it can be used as one of the indicators(指标)for foreign universities,in addition to other indicators, such as how well they speak the target language. The students, who perform well in the gaokao, also have the ability to successfully adapt to Western styles of education. I believe accepting the gaokao as an indicator is a win-win for Chinese students and overseas universities.
Wchao37(US)
In fact, gaokao is perhaps much more difficult than the SAT or ACT exams. You can get a perfect score of 1600 on the SAT but not in the gaokao, partly because the SAT is a machine-scored multiple-choice exam. Do you know anyone that has ever achieved a perfect score in the gaokao?
Harry01(UK)
Hundreds of students from China have entered universities in the UK using their gaokao scores, which requires that their knowledge of English be above a certain level. This measure has benefited specific groups of students from various backgrounds in China.
Mbursian (Canada)
In order to attend a university in an English-speaking country, a student needs to have an acceptable band score on the IELTS. Most importantly, students need an acceptable knowledge of the language spoken in any country they plan to study in. Now the Chinese gaokao is closer to meeting the requirements of different countries.
21. Who believes accepting the Chinese gaokao is a win-win
A. Cecilia Zhang. B. Wchao37. C. Harry01. D. Mbursian.
22 What is most important for Chinese students planning to study abroad
A. The IELTS score. B. Enough test preparation.
C. The Chinese gaokao score. D. Knowledge of the native language.

Jeremy Locke, who owns a roofing and construction company in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, had always been wanting to repair the roof of Jeanette MacDonald's home. Whenever he drove past the woman's home, he assumed that the roof was under repair because the job had already been taken on by another group of repairmen—but as the weeks wore on, the roof continued to worsen without any signs of repair.
“ I had it in my mind that if no one steps up to help this lady in our community, I’d be more than happy to,” Locke told CBC.
When Locke finally reached out to MacDonald about fixing her roof for free, however, she politely declined his offer because she did not like to accept charity. That being said, she had already applied for a government grant (补助金) to fix the roof and she said she was more than happy to hire Locke once her grant application was approved.
Unfortunately, MacDonald never received the approval.
As the stubborn (固执的) Canadian senior refused to accept any assistance from Locke, the sympathetic construction worker played an innocent trick in order to get her to accept his help. He invited MacDonald to enter a raffle (抽奖活动)that his business was holding for a free roof. After the grandmother — of — four accepted one of the raffle tickets, Locke told her that she was the winner—because she was the only one who had entered the raffle.
Thanks to his sweet little plan, Locke and his crew are starting work on the roof this week, which is expected to cost his company about $9, 000.
MacDonald, meanwhile, told CBC that she doesn't know how to express her gratitude to Locke, saying that he is her “guardian angel”.
"There's nobody out there like him," she added.

B. He invited her to enter his business.

Fear started taking over. I was walking into my first school in America. I had traveled a long distance from India in order to join my mother, who had been here for three years, hoping America would help my future. My father decided that I would be better off going to school here, so I enrolled (注册) in the local high school in my new town.
I had no idea what to do. I didn’t know anybody in my classes. On the first day, I went to my second period class after I had missed my first. I was already confused because in India the teachers change according to periods while most of the students have the same periods.
With concern on one hand and fear on the other, I opened the door slowly. Everyone’s eyes were on me as I entered the room. Without paying attention to them, I went straight to the teacher and asked if this was the right class. With a soft voice he answered, “Yes.” His voice made me feel a little relaxed. He gave me a piece of paper called Course Requirements, which I would never get in my previous school in India because we didn’t have anything like that. Then he asked me to choose where I would sit. I didn’t actually want to pick a seat. In India we had our own seat, so I never needed to worry about that. I spent the rest of the class taking notes from the pictures produced by the overhead projector (投影仪). In Indian schools, we didn’t use the technology we had. We had to take notes as the teacher spoke.
Since it was my first day, I was confused about which hallway to use, but I managed to get to my classes without asking anyone. Every confusion seemed like an obstacle (障碍) I had to get through to reach my goal. At the end of the day, I was on my way to the bus which we didn’t have in India either. I saw my bus and sat down inside happily. I was thinking, “today wasn’t so bad”. As time passed that year, I developed some friendships and started to love my school.

A. developed a friendship on the first day
B. got used to the new school life at last

Many people have difficulty in getting up in the morning. This might be called laziness, but Dr. Kleitman has a new explanation. He has proved that everyone has a daily energy cycle.
During the hours when you work, you may say that you’re “hot”. That’s true. The time of day when you feel most energetic is when your cycle of body temperature is at its peak (顶峰). For some people the peak comes during the morning. For others it comes in the afternoon or evening. No one has discovered why this is so, but it leads to such familiar words as: “Get up, John! You’ll be late for work again!” The possible explanation for the trouble is that John is at his temperature-and-energy peak in the evening. Much family quarrelling ends when husbands and wives realize what these energy cycles mean, and which cycle each member of the family has.
You can’t change your energy cycle, but you can learn to make your life fit it better. Habit can help, Dr. Kleitman believes. Maybe you’re sleepy in the evening but feel you must stay up late anyway. If so, staying up later than you want to may counteract your cycle in some way. If our energy is low in the morning but you have an important job to do early in the day, rise before your usual hour. This won’t change your cycle, but you’ll get up steam and work better at your low point.
Get off to a slow start which saves your energy. Get up with a comfortable yawn and stretch. Sit on the edge of the bed for a minute before putting your feet on the floor. Avoid the troublesome search for clean clothes by laying them out the night before.
32. Dr. Kleitman explains that a person is difficult to get up in the morning probably because of
A. his own laziness
B. his own energy cycle
C. his own habit
D. his bad rest at night
33. According to the passage, people’s energy peak may come
A in the morning
B. in the evening
C. in the afternoon
D. at different hours
34. What does the underlined word “it” in the third paragraph refer to
A. The life.
B. The good habit.
C. The energy cycle.
D. The change.
35. If the finding is true, it’s best to
A. do your work at the energy peak
B. manage to control your temper
C. work at the bottom of energy cycle
D. manage to keep you clean all day
【答案】32 B 33. D 34. C 35. A

第二节(满分20分)
67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Everyone likes the beautiful Cinderella, but I like the ugly stepsister. The sidewalk was filled with shoppers as my mother and I hurried to the department store. I raised my neck for a look at the holiday window display, but at the age of six I was too small to see around the grown-ups with their winter coats and packages. When at last we reached the store, I stood with my eyes widened. “Look, Mother,” I shouted, pressing my hands against the glass, “Cinderella.” Before my eyes was the most beautiful doll I had ever seen! She wore a fairy princess suit made of shining red silk. I knew if I lifted her skirt I would find her crystal(水晶) shoes. The tiny tiara (冠状头饰) fastened to her silky golden hair shone.
“If only she were mine,” I dreamed. “We’d have tea parties, share secrets and dance with a handsome prince.” But to my disappointment, my mother guided me away from the window, explaining that she and my father could not afford such an expensive doll. “But there will be a very special gift under the tree for you on Christmas morning, Madge,” she said. “I promise.” Later that week I leaned against Mother’s sewing machine, watching the needle flash up and down. “Bet you don’t know what this is!” she joked, holding up the cloth for me to see. “My Christmas doll!” I yelled. It was still in the early stages but I could make out the head, neck and body. “So much to my surprise!” Mother laughed as I danced around the room, already pretending Cinderella and I were at the ball. It wouldn’t be long now.
My excitement grew with each passing day. Mother continued to work on the doll, and whenever I walked into the room she would hide it under a pillow. I could tell by her smile she was pleased with her progress. On Christmas morning I jumped out of bed, ran down the hall and quickly arrived at the living room where the Christmas tree was placed.
注意:1.续写的词数应为150左右;
2.请按下列格式作答。
There, underneath the tree, was a beautifully packed gift box.
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
But I could see Mother watching me, waiting for my response.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】There, underneath the tree, was a beautifully packed gift box. Inside it was the “doll” I expected. With butterflies in my stomach, I breathed deeply and then opened it expectantly. However, much to my disappointment, it was nothing like the one that we saw at the store. She wore a plain skirt with a simple face. Her black woolen hair was pulled back in a pony tail, with no shiny tiara at all, not to mention the crystal shoes. She was nothing like Cinderella; she looked more like the ugly stepsister.
But I could see Mother watching me, waiting for my response. I knew Mum would be sad if she knew what I really felt. Hiding my disappointment, I shouted with delight, “She’s hard to resist! Thanks, Mum!” A relieved smiled appeared on my mother’s face. From time to time, I would take the “ugly stepsister” out and admire it. It is a reminder of my mother’s love. Her love would make me special and happy even if things did not always tick all the right boxes.

A
Recently a growing number of foreign universities, such as the University of Cambridge, are accepting China’s gaokao results as one of their admission standards.
B. Wchao37. C. Harry01. D. Mbursian.
22. What is most important for Chinese students planning to study abroad
A. The IELTS score. B. Enough test preparation.

“ I had it in my mind that if no one steps up to help this lady in our community I’d be more than happy to,” Locke told CBC.

Many people have difficulty in getting up in the morning. This might be called laziness, but Dr. Kleitman has a new explanation. He has proved that everyone has a daily energy cycle.
During the hours when you work you may say that you’re “hot”.

D. The change.
35. If the finding is true, it’s best to
A. do your work at the energy peak
B. manage to control your temper
C. work at the bottom of energy cycle
D. manage to keep you clean all day

2.请按下列格式作答。
