Most of us hope to live happily. But what is real happiness Real happiness is a matter of experience of the soul(灵魂). You don’t need to care about those people who have beautiful houses, nice cars and a lot of money. Why
Because those people who have big houses may often feel sad and those who have cars may want to walk on the country roads in their free time.
In fact, happiness is always around you. It makes you put your heart into it. When you have problems at school, your friends will help you; when you have some problems with your lessons, your parents will always look after your life and health well; when you do something wrong, people around you will help you to correct it. And when you do something good to others, you will feel delighted too. All these are your happiness.
Money cannot always bring you happiness. When you are poor, you can also say you are very happy. When you meet with problems, you can say loudly you are very happy because you have more chances to challenge(挑战) yourself. If you take every chance you get, you can be a happy and lucky person.

When asked why he or she wears clothes, some people will probably answer “to keep warm and to cover my body”. These are the basic reasons why clothes are worn, but people also want to look attractive and appear successful to others.
If people only wore clothes for warmth and to cover their bodies, most clothes would be simple and cheap. In most Western countries, however, clothes are sometimes very expensive. The main reason for this is not the cost of the cloth or the cost of making the clothes. The clothes are expensive because of fashion.
Successful businessmen, for example, often wear very expensive suits, shirts and ties. Sometimes they pay thousands of dollars for a suit and hundreds of dollars for a tie. It’s just a suit and a tie but they pay these prices because of the famous name of the designer. A suit costing much less would be just as warm and would cover the wearer’s body just as well.
Fashion is always changing, which means those who want to be fashionable have to buy new clothes every few months, even if last month's clothes have only been worn once or twice. Some people have wardrobes full of clothes that have hardly been worn but are no longer in fashion. Being fashionable, therefore, can be a very expensive pastime!
24. What do people basically wear clothes for
A. Keeping warm and covering bodies. B. Following the fashion.
C. Looking attractive to others. D. Appearing successful to others.

“I had no intention to adopt a cat that day. I just liked being around animals. ” Miranda says. But when she saw Nala in her metal cage, “We made eye contact and I couldn’t resist (抗拒) her big blue eyes.” At that point, “Nala was so small. I asked the shelter if I could hold her. Once I had Nala in my arms, Nala looked up at me and licked (舔) my face.” And that was when she knew she had to take this kitty home.
Still, Miranda never imagined Nala would become an Insta-star. “I started Nala’s Instagram account in 2012 as a way to share photos with my close friends and family in Thailand,” she explained. The possibility of Nala gaining attention beyond that small group of people hadn’t occurred to her until it happened.

Scientists have created a skin patch (贴片) that can communicate touch virtually. The soft wireless device sticks to the skin and produces vibrations (震动). Its creators hope it could one day be used to help people bring touch online, in phone calls and games.
The patch links up to devices like smartphones, enabling users to send sensations to the wearer. By making use of near-field communication, seen in electronic payment in smartphones, its designers were able to make the piece of tech wireless and battery-free. A set of 32 actuators (制动器) help to copy the sensation of touch on the wearer’s skin, while a link allows users to adjust the frequency and amplitude (振幅) of each actuator.
“We specially made the designs to increase the sensory perception (感知) of the vibratory force passed to the skin,” explained John A. Rogers, professor of Materials Science and engineering and Biomedical Engineering at Northwestern University.
Rogers, who is also professor of Neurological Surgery at the Feinberg School of Medicine, said in a statement that people have tried to make similar technology, but they involved problems like wires or batteries.
“We feel that it’s a good starting point that will go up naturally to full-body systems and hundreds or thousands of separate, programmable actuators,” he said. “We are expanding the boundaries and capabilities of virtual reality.
Rogers said the equipment “could be very powerful for social interactions, clinical medicine and applications that we cannot conceive of today.
“Virtual reality is a new rising area of technology,” Rogers added. “At present, we’re just using our eyes and our ears as the basis for those experiences. The community has been comparatively slow to take advantage of the body’s largest
organ: the skin. Our sense of touch provides the most profound, deepest, emotional
connection between people.”
32. What is Paragraph 2 mainly about
A. How the skin patch works.
B. What the skin patch is made up of.
C. What the skin patch looks like.
D. Why the skin patch is developed.
33. What does the underlined part “conceive of” in the last but one paragraph mean
A. Adopt. B. Prevent. C. Abandon. D. Imagine.
34. What does Rogers’ statement in the last paragraph show
A. He worries about people’s emotional connection between people.
B. He is doubtful about more virtual reality experiences.
C. He expects the further development of virtual reality.
D. He is curious about the community’s long-term planning.
35. What is the purpose of this article
A. To persuade. B. To inform. C. To argue. D. To advertise.

How to Be Productive During Difficult Times
When we have a hard time, we may turn to others for help.___36___Well, today we offer you some advice.
You had better turn yourself into your own hero. That is the idea behind Kendra Levin’s self-help book The Hero Is You. He studied stories from many different time periods and many different cultures. He found that many stories had something in common: a hero who goes on a journey. ___37__Making ourselves the hero in our own story, Levin explains, is of great significance.
___38___In stories, heroes also have a mission—what they want to accomplish—and a vision—what they see for themselves. Levin suggests that we write out our mission and vision, not just for a project but for our lives as well. With a clearly defined mission and vision, events in our lives no longer feel like separate events. They become a part of our larger story.
It’s essential to know your strengths and weaknesses. Levin explains that when we know our strengths, we can use them fully. In difficult times, we can make our lives easier by focusing on our strengths.___39___All heroes have them. On their journey they face their weaknesses and learn from them. The more we know about ourselves and the better we understand ourselves, the better we can figure out what to do to make the most of who we already are.
You might as well have small goals within a larger goal. Levin reminds us that the hero’s journey is not a one-time thing. It is a journey you are on your entire life. So, she suggests having small goals that you can measure in some way. And that's especially helpful if you have a large goal. ___40___
A. We may even wish we had a hero to help us.
B. It's recommended to write out your mission and vision.
C. It is even more important, she adds, to identify weaknesses.
D. She reminds us to be realistic with our goals and to be kind to ourselves.
E. In stories, writers often give their hero, the main person in the story, a purpose.
F. On this journey, the hero overcomes a great challenge and changes for the better.
G. To feel a sense of accomplishment, it’s so important to break it down into smaller pieces.

One pleasant New-year morning, Edward rose, and washed and dressed himself very quickly. He wanted to be first to wish everyone a happy New Year. He looked in every room, and shouted the words of welcome. He ran into the street, to repeat them to those he might meet. When he came back, his father gave him two bright, new silver dollars. His face lighted up as he took them. He had wished for a long time to buy some pretty books that he had seen at the bookstore.
He left the house with a light heart, intending to buy the books. As he ran down the street, he saw a poor German family, the father, mother, and three children shivering with cold.
"I wish you a happy New Year," said Edward, as he was happily passing by. The man shook his head. "You do not belong to this country " said Edward. The man again shook his head, for he could not understand or speak the English language. But he pointed to his mouth, and to the children, as if to say, "These little ones have had nothing to eat for a long time." Edward quickly understood that these poor people were in a very difficult situation and required some help. He took out his dollars, and gave one to the man, and the other to his wife.
How their eyes sparkled with gratitude! They said something in their language, which doubtless meant, "We thank you a thousand times, and will remember you in our prayers."
When Edward came home, his father asked what book he had bought. He hung his head a moment, but quickly looked up. "I have bought no books," said he, "I gave my money to some poor people, who seemed to be very hungry."

Dear Daniel,
I'm sorry to hear that you had an argument with your mother.
In my opinion, you should apologize to your mother, as she has done nothing wrong to prevent you from Internet addiction. Although the internet plays an important role in modern life, we can’t ignore its harm to us. Many students spend most of the time playing computer games or chatting aimlessly with others, which may not only result in poor health and decline in study, but also loss of communication in the real world.
As students, we should devote our energy to study. When available, you may as well walk outside with your friends or take some exercise to keep fit instead of playing computer games. Only in this way can you live and study happily and healthily.
67.【范文】
“I think I can wait for my books till next New Year,” continued he.His father looked at him with a blank look. He explained that it was a German family that was badly in need of help. They even didn’t have enough clothes to wear. Edward’s explanation made his father understand what had happened and he expressed that he couldn’t agree more with him. In order to recognize the work Edward did, his father bought the books, saying, “God invariably puts someone in a very difficult situation. Never can we turn a blind eye to those in need. What you have done will make a happy New Year.”
Hearing what his father said and holding the books his father gave him in his arms, Edward felt he was the happiest boy in the world. He felt the sweetness of helping others. A few days later, Edward met the family again, and they still thanked him a thousand times. It seemed the city was bathed in brilliant sunshine because of Edward’s feelings. Additionally, he knows that help means under any circumstances, we all can give a hand to people in a dilemma. Maybe bare words would be enough for them.
