What is it that makes people happy Youth, health, a good job, good looks, a flash car None of these things, Spanish experts say.
The concept of happiness is thought to be determined by genetics, while the rest depends on childhood environment and the process of growing up. Perhaps the most surprising thing about happiness is coming under increasingly close examination in Spain.
As the nation rises to the club of the world's wealthiest countries, people are discovering that material things do not bring happiness.
"Most people use money as a measure of human value," says Jesus Ynfante, author of a book on Spain's 300 biggest fortunes. "Expensive products are regarded as the best. The rich are admired simply for being rich," Ynfante said.
Yet psychologists warn that happiness as a moment of ecstatic pleasure(狂喜)-something that, by definition ,cannot last-while others speak of it as peace and acceptance of oneself. Polls(问卷调查) in different countries indicate that between 65 and 85 percent of the world's population regard themselves as reasonably happy.
Around 40 percent of a person's happiness is that it has little to do with age, health, wealth, or other values thought to be important in Western society. For most Spaniards, happiness is linked with feeling close to other people. Happy people accept their limitations and set themselves reachable goals, experts say.
There are life-style choices that favour happiness, such as exercise, eating carbohydrates and exposing oneself to sunlight. But the main secret of happiness is to take pleasure in small things.
“If you are given a choice between eternal(永久的)happiness and a cheese sandwich, take the sandwich,” advises musician Julian Hernandez.

No more pencils. No more books. School's out for summer! Well, almost. While some of you might spend the next few months soaking up the sun or seeking out adventure, for others, it's time for those two dreaded words: summer job! But don't worry. Here are some tips for your summer job search.
What are the common mistakes people make when trying to get a summer job If they came in and had five other applications with them and they sat down and filled out those applications here and then asked for an application. That's number one: Act uninterested. Letting an employer know all you care about is a paycheck is a good way to ensure you won't get one.
Number two: Bring the drama. Employers don't want to hear about what's going on outside the restaurant or that they just got in a fight with their boyfriend. A lot of places will actually check up on the claims you make on your application. And that may include why you left your last job.
So number three Lie. That's one way to guarantee you won't be making any cash this summer. And if you want to start with a bad impression, show up unprepared. Let your pants hang down, wear flip-flops and leave a pen at home. You won't believe how many employers hate that. Also, try arguing with your interviewer.
61. If you filled out several other applications at the interview, it means ___.
A. you are good at looking for jobs B. you will not get the job in the end.
C. you are making the common mistake D. you are in good preparation for the interview.
62. Which is true according to the passage
A. It seems a terrible experience to find a summer job.
B. It’s a wise choice to make the application attractive.
C. All your experiences will be expected by interviewers.
D. You don’t need to be well-dressed for an interview.
63. What’s the meaning behind the underlined sentence “Also, try arguing with your interviewer” in the last paragraph
A. Interviewers encourage job-hunters to arguing with them.
B. The writer advised arguing with the interviewer.
C. Interviewers also hate job-hunter’s arguing with them.
D. Job-hunters should learn to argue with interviewers.
64. What does “Bring the drama” in the third paragraph refer to
A. Come along with a play to perform. B. Prepare stories about oneself.
C. Talk about work experience. D. Tell something off the point.
65. How does the writer introduce the tips for summer job search
A. By telling what you should do. B. By telling what you shouldn’t do.
C. By telling dos and don’ts. D. By telling what interviewers need.
IV. 任务型阅读(共10小题,满分10分)
请认真阅读下列短文,并根据所给内容在文章后表格中的空格中填入最恰当的单词。每空一个单词。)
Some people believe that greed and selfishness has become the basis of modern society, and we should return to the old traditions of family and community then we will have a better life. To what extent do you agree or disagree with the above opinion
In this fast-paced world, many values are undergoing major changes. While people traditionally prioritize caring, sharing and generosity in life and work, modern people seem to be more self-absorbed and self-concerned.
Modern people act selfishly to survive the harsh competition of life. They say that it is a jungle out there. To survive, you have to fight with whatever means that come handy. Obviously greed and selfishness go perfectly well with such ideas. In a company, employees do everything they can to get better pay and higher position, even at the cost of colleagues. We are in any way advocating any selfish conduct. It is just that people are pressured to act in a certain way due to outside influences.
In spite of common practice, it is hard to conclude that modern society is built on greed and selfishness, both of which are not newly invented vocabulary. In ancient times people also did greedy and selfish things though such behaviors were more condemned then. But we can not ignore the fact that people in the past lived a relatively more isolated life and faced less pressure compared with their modern counterparts.
Are we happier to share with others and be generous to them There is no fixed answer either. Some people take great pleasure helping and giving to others while others feel happy doing the opposite. But I personally think that people should not be too selfish. Caring for others can actually encourage the development of a mutually beneficial relationship.
In conclusion, modern people appear to be more self-centered than those in the past due to strong outside pressure. However, we should encourage people to know the importance of being caring and generous and to build a mutually beneficial relationship with others.
