Teaching aims:
1. To get students to know about Chinese and Western paintings, famous artists and works of art.
2. To help students master some useful new words and expressions and let them learn effective ways to describe paintings.

Teaching steps:
Step 1 Warming up
Warming up by talking about students’ Art Festival and appreciate some pictures and paintings.
Art Festival → Art → paintings → Chinese paintings → the characters of Chinese paintings →Western paintings
Step 2 Pre-reading
Ask students how much they know about Western paintings.
Show some Western paintings to students and see if they can talk about them.
Step 3 Fast-reading
Ask students to skim the passage to get the key words and the general idea of each paragraph and answer the following questions:
