For many of us, it is more pleasurable to look at pictures of beautiful sunrises than to get up at actually beautiful sunrises. However, Bugsy Sailor wanted to challenge himself last year. He decided to take a picture of the sunrise every single morning of 2020. He called the project “Year of the Sunrise”.
Sailor lives in Marquette and is the owner of the Upper Peninsula Supply Company. He describes himself as a “sometime” photographer. It had been Sailor's New Year’s Day tradition since 2013 to photograph the first sunrise of the year. But last year, he decided to step it up a degree. “It was exactly the day before, December 31, 2019, I was like well, what if I just watch every sunrise of 2020 ”The beauty of the sunrise on the first day of 2020 convinced Sailor that it was something he could stick with for the whole 365 days.
Most of the photos feature Lake Superior. There are plenty of photos featuring the beautiful orange horizons (地平线), but in others, the sun is clearly missing. But Sailor said, “Every morning was worth capturing (捕获), even when snow or clouds blocked the sunrise itself. It's still there. The sun is still rising, and that's part of the commitment. And I think the more cloudy days in a row, the greater the reward is once you have a clear, beautiful, orange day.”
As an almost daily visitor to the shore of Lake Superior, Sailor had a unique opinion on the lake’s record-high water levels. He said water levels in the Great Lakes last year caused significant beach erosion (侵蚀) and damage to lakeside homes. Recording each sunrise of 2020, Sailor said, allowed him to develop a deeper relationship with the lake and the surrounding nature. It also served as a moment of reflection on the year.
24. What's the purpose of the first paragraph
A. To introduce the main topic. B. To explain how to admire sunrises.
C. To introduce Bugsy Sailors challenge. D. To compare different attitude to sunrises.
25. What became Sailor's New Year’s tradition in 2013
A. Getting up earlier to challenge himself.
B. Watching and photographing every sunrise.
C. Taking photos of the first sunrise of each year.
D. Regarding himself as a professional photographer.
26. What do we know from Sailor’s words in Paragraph 3
A. Practice makes perfect. B. Man can conquer nature.
C. True knowledge comes from practice. D. Sunshine comes after clouds and storms.
27. What is Sailor’s view about Lake Superior’s high water levels
A. High water levels cause more bad weather.
B. High water levels are bad for local ecology.
C. Lakeside homes should be moved farther from the lakes.
D. Government needs to develop a closer relationship with nature.

On my first day at senior high, I arrived, and went to the gym for the pep rally (动员大会). I felt nervous because I didn't know anybody. I sat down and then made a new friend. Nick
After the pep rally, Nick and I walked out of the gym to our first class Mr. Maloufs ancient civilization (文明). We walked through the hallways looking for the classroom. As we were walking, I realized all the hallways looked like the inside of a hospital. I wasn't used to being in a school without much decoration (装饰). My junior high was covered with projects on the hallways walls.
When Nick and I met Mr. Malouf we saw that he was of average (平均的) height and had brown hair. The class could tell from his introduction that he knew how everyone in the class felt. We were comforted after Mr. Malouf said “Okay, I know that this is your first day at senior high, but I still want this to be a good first class of senior high even though you are all thinking. I’m so nervous because this is my first class!’” Afterwards, our classmates introduced themselves to the other members of the class. Next, Mr. Malouf told the class about his background. After the class, Nick and I verbally (口头地) exchanged schedules and went to our next classes wherever they happened to be.
I had pictured my first day at senior high would be like the ones you see in the movies, but it wasn't. The first day at senior high in the movies usually shows a lonely teenager who is sitting by himself at lunch. But my day was so wonderful. It made me realize that people should believe that wonderful things do happen instead of always worrying about the bad things in life. I'd like to thank my friends and teachers who gave me such a good first day at senior high.
28. What do we know about the author's senior high
A. It seems very simple. B. It is close to a hospital.
C. It has various gyms. D. It is similar to his junior high.
29. What impression might Mr. Malouf leave the author on the first day
A. He is a learned and strict teacher. B. He is a tall and brown - haired teacher.
C. He is a talkative and easy-going teacher. D. He is a caring and understanding teacher.
30. What does the author learn from his first day at senior high
A. Face the loneliness bravely. B. Expect the good things in life.
C. Keep learning and growing. D. Believe in the importance of friendship.
31. What is the author's purpose in writing the text
A. To introduce the people he met at his senior high.
B. To introduce the daily activities at his senior high.
C. To share his experience on his first day at senior high.
D. To share his plans he made on the first day at senior high.

Tears not only deliver oxygen and nutrients to our eyes and remove waste, but also contain various chemicals originally present in blood, some of which serve as markers of some diseases. That's a primary reason why doctors order blood tests. But it also means that physicians - and maybe in the near future, you - can look for signs of illness by looking at your tears.
Scientists have already found that markers of many serious diseases including cancers are found in tears. And recently, a technology named Tear Exo has been developed for breast cancer screening using tears collected by patients themselves. That could offer a cheaper way of testing and aid in the earlier detection of deadly disease.
But the potential advantages of tears as indicators of health go beyond occasional testing. One tear - based technology is a small contact lens (隐形眼镜) that continuously monitors a patient's biomarkers, significantly improving disease prevention and detection. It has attracted the attention of some major companies such as Novartis, and is currently under development in research laboratories around the world.
More recently, a smart contact lens has been successfully developed for continuous monitoring and treatment of diabetic retinopathy (视网膜病变). Such a product probably won't be ready for commercial use in several years. But according to Centers of Disease Control and Prevention, about 45 million people in the U. S already wear contact lens to correct their sight. Switching to a smart version would be simple for them.
This is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the potential in tears beyond crying. Tears can provide an inexpensive, rapid and easy-to-use choice to monitor health. Given the advantage of tear technology, such technology will almost certainly bring about more effective prevention of diseases—rather than having to deal with the difficulty of treating them.
32. In which way do people benefit from Tear Exo
A. Preventing breast cancer. B. Saving time for screening tests.
C. Reducing the costs of testing. D. Detecting some diseases earlier.
33. What can we infer about the smart contact lens
A. It has a promising future. B. It can improve patient's sight.
C. It is available on the market. D. It monitors eyesight continuously.
34. What is the author's attitude to tear technology
A. Doubtful. B. Positive. C. Negative. D. Cautious.
35. Which can be a suitable title of the text
A. What role do tears play B. Tears contain high levels of chemical.
C. How can we prevent tears D. Your eyes may save your life someday.

Early the next morning, the girls met at the jasmine bushes outside of Shanti’s house. Beautiful white flowers surrounded them with fresh scent (香味). They picked the flowers and dropped them into a basket. Then the girls sat under a tree and knotted (捆扎) the flowers into garlands. Shanti could already see herself hugging that beautiful doll.
“If we sell enough garlands, we can each get a doll, said Shanti.
Jodi shook her head. “My family is low on money this week. I’ll use my money to pay for Kiran’s medicine.” Kiran was Jodi’s little brother. “Is he sick ”Shanti asked. “He is. But when he gets his medicine, he'll be fine.” Jodi picked up her garlands. “My mother is expecting me. I’ll meet you at the market.”
