Ⅰ.Fast Reading
Chinese people have been celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival and enjoying
mooncakes for centuries. Mooncakes are in the shape of a full moon on the
Mid-Autumn night. They carry people's wishes to the families they love and miss.
There are many traditional folk stories about this festival. However, most people think that the story of Chang’e is the most touching. Chang’e was Hou Yi’s beautiful wife. After Hou Yi shot down the nine suns, a goddess gave him magic medicine to thank him. Whoever took this could live forever, and Hou Yi planned to take it with Chang’e. However, a bad man, Pang Meng, tried to steal the medicine when Hou Yi was not home. Chang’e refused to give it to him and took it all. She became very light and flew up to the moon. Hou Yi was so sad that he called out her name to the moon every night. One night, he found that the moon was so bright and round that the could see his wife there. He quickly laid out her favorite fruits and desserts in the garden. How he wished that Chang’e could come back!
After this, people started the tradition of admiring the moon and sharing mooncakes with their families.

Section A 3a-3c
Good morning, dear judges
I am No. X .It’s my great honor to have this opportunity to talk about my teaching ideas. Now I’m going to talk about my teaching plans of section A from Unit 2 “I think that mooncakes are delicious!”, Grade 9. My presentation consists of the following parts: Teaching material analysis, Analysis of students, Teaching aims, Teaching procedures and so on.
Part 1 Teaching material analysis
This lesson is from the reading part in PEP English Go For It Grade 9 Unit2 Section A. It is about the Mid-Autumn Festival. Students can learn it from a traditional folk story Chang’e flying to the moon. It is related to students’ life. Students understand it easily. However, the past tense is used widely in this passage. It’s necessary to use the objective clause and exclamatory statements. This is a little difficult for students, so they need to pay more attention to it. As we know, Reading is a very important part, and it belongs to the input, and the input has a great effect on output.
If the students can master it well, it will be helpful for students to learn the rest of this unit. Therefore, this lesson plays an important role in the English teaching of this unit.
Part 2 Analysis of students
The students of Grade 9 are not very active, but they have certain vocabulary and reading abilities and skills. Students have learnt some traditional and western festivals before this unit, and they can use the objective clause to talk about festivals. So I will make them finish the reading tasks by themselves as much as they can.
Part 3 Teaching aims
1. Knowledge aims:
Students can master the usage of the important words and expressions, such as folk, whoever=no matter who, lay out, desserts, garden, tradition, admire, refuse to do.....Students can learn the objective clause and exclamatory statements in this unit.
Ability aims:
Students can develop their abilities of listening, reading, speaking, writing, watching and translating by talking about and retelling the story. Students can learn to find some details in the passage. Students can use a mind map to remember and retell the story quickly.
3. Emotional aims:
Students’ interests of learning English will be inspired and they will understand that where there is a family, there is a festival, and they will love our traditional festivals and culture.
Part 4. Teaching key and difficult points
(1)Key point
To develop students’ reading ability.
(2)Difficult point
Students can remember and retell the story by using a mind map, and then students’ emotion will be inspired. And students can express their own ideas and can give a personal reaction about some festivals with the sentences they have learnt.
Part 5 Teaching and learning methods
As we know, the aims of learning English in the junior middle school is to improve the students’ abilities of listening, reading, speaking, writing ,watching ,translating and good sense of the English language . There are different teaching methods. In this lesson I’ll mainly use “Task-based Teaching Method”. That is” learning by doing” “doing things with the language”. I’ll give the students some tasks and arrange some activities: watching pictures, talking, pair/group work.
Part 6 Teaching procedures.
Before teaching, I will divide the whole class into several groups. So I designed the following 5 steps. They are Leading-in, Pre-reading, While-reading, Post-reading, Summary and Homework . Now let’s go to the first step:
Step1. Leading-in
Greet students and talk with the students simply while listening to the English song .
(The purpose is to increase the students’ interest of study and create a relaxing atmosphere.)
Step2. Pre-reading
Show the pictures one by one and let the students answer the questions to lead out the new words and expressions about this passage while listening to the English song.
Q1.Which festival do you think of(the Mid-autumn Festival)
Q2.What do people usually have (mooncakes)
Q3.What do they look like (in the shape of a full moon)
Q4.What do we do to celebrate the Mid-autumn Festival (lay out the fruits and desserts, admire the moon, share happiness with families)
Q5.Do you know any traditional folk stories about Mid-Autumn Festival
Q6.Who is the girl in the picture What story is the reading about What’s the meaning of “Full Moon, Full Feelings”
(The purpose :This step can arouse students learning interest, and help them to learn the new words and phrases, which they may come across while reading, and make the students get the general ideas of the text. So I can lead the whole class to today’s reading naturally.)
Step3. While-reading
1.Fast reading
Reading the passage quickly while listening to the tape of this passage to get the main idea of each paragraph. Then match the main idea with each paragraph by listening to the tape of this passage.

(The purpose :Through these activities, develop the spirit of cooperation and train the ability to solve problem by themselves. In class the teacher is just a guide, while the students are the center, where, the teacher can join them, give some suggestions, and offer some help when the students need.)
Step5.Summary and homework
