Running can be a polarizing (两极分化的) subject. Most people fall into one of two camps: those who love running every morning, and those who would sooner do anything to avoid it. For most of my life, I was planted in the second camp.
I always hated running. At age 12, I remember entering a neighborhood 5K with my dad; I also remember placing dead last, followed by only the police car driving patiently behind me. Three years later, I didn't make the junior volleyball team because I couldn't run a mile in under 10 minutes. Every time I ran, I felt as though failure—in some form or another—was the only possible result.
The summer after my freshman year, though, I took a job at a summer camp in Connecticut, where I got paid to be a kid again. I spent my days keeping an eye on different camp activities. When it came to exercise, running was my only choice. So, I made myself a promise: Every day, I would run for a while. By most runners' standards, it wasn't far; I guessed it was only about a mile. But I decided to do it every day, no matter how long it took. The exercise lasted for 61 days—the entire time I spent at camp that summer.
I started to feel better about myself. But to my great surprise, I learned to love running, too. I went from fearing the sport to loving it. I've finished seven marathons (马拉松) and more shorter races than I can remember, and now I am a running coach. These were the secrets I discovered to changing my way of looking at life.

26. What decision did the author make in the camp
A. To run every day. B. To do a part time job.
C. To fully relax himself in the camp. D. To take part in different activities.

A. It is a difficult thing to do. B. It has become a boring sport.

Don’t be locked to your smartphone
Do you find it difficult to put down your mobile phone
If yes, you’re not alone. These days, many people suffer from the stress of FOMO (fear of missing out). They reach for their mobile phones when they wake up in the morning, and for the rest of the day, they constantly (不断地) scroll down (向下滚动) the timelines of their social media apps to get the latest updates.
Despite the convenience smartphones bring, many people struggle with their digital habits.
As Sameer Samat, US tech company Google’s vice president of product management, said in his speech at the 2018 Google I/O developer conference on May 8, 70 percent of people don’t want to spend so much time on their phones.
This is why during the conference Google introduced an app called Dashboard for the new version (版本) of its Android operating system. This new app includes well-being functions that aim to help users manage the time they spend on their digital devices.
It all starts with a bird’s-eye view. Dashboard allows users to look at all the details of their phone habits. For example, a user can see how many times they’ve unlocked their phone and how many times they’ve checked their social media apps, as well as how much time they spend on each app every day.
Once the users see this information, they’ll be able to make some changes. With the App Timer function, users can set a time limit for how long they can use each app for every day. After they’ve hit the limit, they won’t be able to launch the app until the next day.
But even if users become more mindful of their usage, they’re still likely to be drawn in by notifications (通知). This is where the Shush feature comes in. It automatically (自动地) silences incoming calls and notifications when a user puts their phone face down.
If people truly want to make full use of their free time instead of losing hours using their smartphones, these new functions are just one way of doing that.
After all, who needs to use an app to stop you from using other apps when the easiest answer would be just to use your willpower
28. Who are the target users of Dashboard
A. People who know little about smartphones.
B. People who have trouble dealing with stress.
C. People who are slow at searching for things online.
D. People who wish to manage the time spent on their smartphone.
29. What can Dashboard do
A. Limit the time certain apps can be used.
B. Limit some apps to certain users.
C. Lock the phone at a certain time.
D. Silence app notifications at night.
30. The underlined word “mindful” in Paragraph 8 is closest in meaning to ______.
A. serious B. careful C. prepared D. creative
31. What does the author think of Dashboard
A. It’s not very useful. B. It’s perfectly designed.
C. It should include more functions. D. It may be helpful to some people.
D
Researchers all over the world have been dreaming of "lab-grown" or "cultured" meat, for years. Today, their dream took one step closer to reality as the cultured chicken meat from the US company, Eat Just, has been allowed for sale in Singapore.
Lab-grown chicken is made of real chicken cells(细胞), but it's grown in a lab instead of growing in a live chicken. (Cultured meat is different from plant-based meats like the Impossible Burger, Beyond Meat or Quorn, which use plant proteins(蛋白质)to create products that just taste very similar to the products made from real meat.)
To grow cultured chicken meat, cells are taken from a real chicken. These cells are then put in a special kind of water that encourages the cells to grow in the lab until they've produced chicken meat-without the chicken.
But many technical challenges of bringing lab-grown meat to the table are far from solved. No one has yet found out how to produce cultured meat even with the same texture(质感)and structure of real meat. Even replacing chicken products with lab-grown chicken products that are not very strict with such texture and structure would be a big success for the world.
The existing projects, like Eat Just's in Singapore, can only produce a very small amount of meat for special dishes, while the meat industry kills tens of billions of animals each year. Matching that will be a challenge.
The next challenge is cost. Lab-grown meat is much more expensive than factory farming. "Factory-farmed meat is unbelievably cheap," said Lewis Bollard, who researches animals at the Open Philanthropy Project. "The meat industry doesn't pay for the environmental and the public health problems they have caused. They have managed to produce a product that is just artificially cheap and hard to compete with."
Although there are still many challenges ahead, today's success in Singapore is cause for celebration.
32. Which company's product is made of animal cells
A. Quorn. B. Eat Just.
C. Beyond Meat. D. Impossible Burger.
33. What can we say about the cultured chicken meat
A. It has been grown in a live chicken. B. It has the same texture of real meat.
C. It still tastes different from real meat. D. It has been produced in huge amounts.
34. What does Lewis Bollard mean
A. Researchers have had a big success in Singapore.
B. There are many technical challenges to be solved.
C. Cultured meat still cannot compete with real meat.
D. Factory-farmed meat is very harmful to our health.
35. What can be a suitable title for the text
A. Cultured Meat Still Faces Too Many Problems
B. When Will Lab-grown Meat Become Reality
C. How to Grow Cultured Chicken Meat in a Lab
D. The First Lab-grown Meat to Be on Sale in Singapore

Jenny and Lisa are close friends. They're studying in high school now.
One day about half a year ago, Jenny found that Lisa was chatting on her cellphone. Jenny was surprised as she didn't know Lisa had gone downtown to buy a cellphone. So Jenny asked her, “When did you get your cellphone ”
“I bought it yesterday. Look! How lovely it looks!” said Lisa.
Jenny looked at the cellphone, which looked really lovely. Jenny wished she also could have such a cellphone.
That day, after Jenny came back home, she saw her father sitting on the sofa reading a newspaper. Jenny approached him and said, “Dad, could I have a cellphone Many of my classmates have their own cellphones now.”
“Of course, you can have one,” said Jenny's father.
“Thank you, Dad,” Jenny said happily. Then she asked, “When shall we go downtown to buy one ”
The father looked up hearing that. Then he said, “Oh, no, dear! I'm not going to buy you a cellphone. If you really want one, you should make money to buy one yourself.”
Jenny immediately became upset. But she knew her father was serious. She walked away and went to her own room.
The following day, Jenny went to school as usual. Lisa came to her and asked why she was wearing a long face that day. Jenny said, “I asked my dad to buy a cellphone for me, but he said I should work for one myself.” But Lisa didn't seem to be surprised at all, and she said, “Don't get surprised, because that's how I bought my own cellphone.”
Hearing that, Jenny remembered Lisa once told her she was helping look after the Smiths' one year old son in the past summer. Now she knew why she worked part time that summer. Lisa wanted a new cellphone and she worked to make money for it.
That day after Jenny came back home from school, she went to her father. She was no longer upset. She told her father that she had decided to find a job to make money. “Good,” said her father. Jenny started to look for part time work on the Internet. Lucky for her, some families in the neighborhood were looking for part time workers. One old couple needed someone to cut the grass. A young couple needed someone to look after their baby. Jenny called the families and she was offered the jobs.
