If you are new to music lessons and wonder which instrument might be best for your children, please read the guidelines on choosing an instrument. The first thing for you to consider is whether the instrument is age-appropriate or not.
Under 4 years old: We highly recommend a group class over private lessons. In our decades of experience with thousands of students, we have found it to be ineffective to force young children into the private lesson setting. We suggest that children are lovingly invited to explore the wonders and diversity (多样性) of sound (before being taught musical rules, theories, and techniques). Parents can do this at home, or you can try one of our group music classes like Family Music Time. Please click here for more information about Family Music Time or click here to fill out our free trial request form.
4 to 6 years old: As children’s coordination (协调性) and communication skills develop, parents may be recommended, to try private lessons at age 4 or 5. We do not recommend learning music in a theoretical or technical manner yet. Rather, we accept the nature, curiosity and creativity of this special age through our “Meet Music” program, or through lighthearted musical play at home with the family. You might also like our unique group class for preschoolers & kindergartners, called “A Sound Experience”. We promise, from the bottom of our hearts, that another 6 months or year of “play” before formal education will not leave your children behind. In fact, we have seen just the opposite! Please click here for more information or click here to fill out our free trial request form.

Zhang Lin, 25, is from a village in the mountainous province of Yunnan, southwest China. She escaped from her first marriage, which she was forced into by her parents. Later on, she got married once again, this time for love. However, she had to leave this marriage too because her second husband could not accept her son from her first marriage. The only thing Zhang has never given up on is the attitude of being independent.
“I want to provide a good life for people I love,” Zhang said. “Women must be financially (经济上) independent. I will buy a car and an apartment by myself. I won’t depend on any-one. ”Standing tall—at under 1. 6 meters, Zhang makes her living as a truck driver. She usually starts driving at night from Wenzhou in Zhejiang Province, and drives for 8.5 hours all the way to Quanzhou, about 500 km to the south. Before she got the job, people doubted whether such a tiny woman could drive such a big truck. However, this job for Zhang is her best option to shake off poverty.
“It’s quite unusual. She is an inspiring young woman. She’s not going to take no for an answer,” Oscar-winning director Malcolm Clarke said. As a filmmaker, he wants to find people who are engaging, charming, interesting and entertaining. “Many Chinese women are quite reticent to talk about themselves. But she was not shy; she was very active; very open about her difficulties...She is really special and quite typical of many Chinese women who are very driven (发愤图强的),” Clarke said.
For Clarke, Zhang stands for many of those rural (农村的) Chinese who leave behind their hometowns and look for a better life. The documentary (纪录片) also explores several more persons who hold different views on what is a “good life”.
24. Why does Zhang take the job as a truck driver seriously
A. She doesn’t mind a boring job.
B. It makes her live independently.
C. It can help her shake off her marriage.
D. She wants to buy a car for her husband.
25. Which can replace the underlined word “reticent” in paragraph 3
A. Quiet. B. Warm-hearted. C. Outgoing. D. Helpless.
26. What can we learn about Chinese females from the words of Clarke
A. They can take over males, field.
B. They can control the society.
C. They are respectable.
D. They are always shy.
27. What is the best title for the text
A. How one tiny woman stands tall.
B. How women achieved a good life
C. An easy-going woman
D. An unfortunate Chinese rural female
C
It is difficult to give up smoking for two main reasons. First is the power of nicotine (尼古丁), found naturally in tobacco (烟草) leaves. Second, people often smoke as a routine or habit, and giving up can be hard because it requires a change of pattern. People smoke often when they’re stressed. There are luckily products people can buy to help them give it up, including nicotine patches (贴片).
Addiction is one of the biggest challenges for people to give up. Nicotine is a drug that is naturally in the roots and leaves of the tobacco plant, and its presence tells us why smoking these leaves is so popular: the drug makes people feel good, and can reduce one’s pressure, at least in the short term. People breathe in it when smoking cigarettes and other similar products, and from there it enters the bloodstream quickly. It travels through the heart and to the brain, where pleasant feelings are produced. Once these centers of the brain become used to the drug, people will begin to thirst for it. Over time most people build up a tolerance to the drug. In this sense, the longer a person waits, the harder it will likely be to quit.
Most people find that they can’t give up smoking unless they really want to, and it often takes a lot of willpower and determination (决心). Certain medicine can help reduce some worst side effects, and many also find that it helps to slowly reduce nicotine addiction rather than stop it all at once. Nicotine patches people can wear are often helpful, as these can deliver controlled amounts of the drug into a person’s blood.
28. What can we learn from the text
A. Tobacco can relieve stress completely.
B. People smoke only when feeling stressed
C. There are products to help smokers give up smoking.
D. It is the best way to quit smoking suddenly.
29. Why is smoking tobacco popular with some people
A. It helps people look cool.
B. It can make people healthy.
C. It smells and tastes good.
D. It makes people feel fine.
30. What may the author agree with
A. Stopping producing tobacco.
B. Quitting smoking as early as possible.
C. Buying much medicine to quit smoking.
D. Quitting smoking is easy for most people.
31. What is the last paragraph mainly about
A. Why it is hard to quit smoking.
B. What can be done to quit smoking.
C. Why it is impossible to quit smoking.
D. How to help others quit smoking.

China’s new bullet train is now the world’s fastest land vehicle (交通工具) China Rail-way Rolling Stock Corporation showed the production version of its magnetic levitation (磁悬浮) bullet train in Qingdao on Tuesday. State media says the train has a top speed of 373 mph. That speed doesn’t just make it the fastest train in the world, but makes it the fastest land vehicle. The bullet train is able to travel at such high speeds because of magnetic levitation. The technology uses electro-magnetic force to levitate the body of the vehicle less than two inches from the rails and drive it forward along the tracks. By riding on a cushion of air, friction (摩擦力) is completely reduced, allowing it to travel faster than traditional trains where wheels and rails are constantly in contact. Although China has made use of the technology for a couple decades now, it’s only ever been used at very limited areas.
China Railway says its bullet train will greatly help cut down travel time. At top speedy the vehicle will be able to complete the 754-mile trip between Beijing and Shanghai in just two and a half hours. That same trip takes just over three hours by plane, five and a half hours by current high-speed rail options or 12 hours by car. That could make the train an especially attractive travel option for business travelers in the country. It’s unclear when the new bullet train will go into operation. The vehicle that the company showed off on Tuesday is the finished article.
Of course, the train’s record might not stand for long. The Central Japan Railway Company is testing a maglev train. It will be able to top out at 375 mph, according to New Atlas. But that isn’t expected to be shown in public until 2027 at the earliest. That gives China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation plenty of time to refine and upgrade its bullet train and push its top speed even higher.
What can we know about the China’s new bullet train
A. It is the fastest land vehicle.
B. It is close to the speed of sound.
C. It has gone into operation widely.
D. It has taken the place of the traditional train.
33. What challenge might China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation face
A. The poor management of it.
B. The lack of money used to improve the train.
C. The competition from Japanese company.
D. The shortage of creativity from its engineers.
34. What is the attitude of the author to China’s bullet train
A. Objective. B. Doubtful. C. Unconcerned. D. Unfriendly.
35. What is the text mainly about
A. The world’s most costly train. B. The China’s new bullet train.
C. The China’s modem trains. D. The world’s fastest vehicle.

In 1968, I was a student at the Sophia Hagopian High School in Beirut, Lebanon. One day, I went to the head teacher’s office and told him that my parents could not pay the tuition (学费). Although I was the top student in my class, I was sent home because of being short of money. This was a heartbreaking experience for me, as I really wanted to continue my education.
I went home and spent my day at my father’s tire-repair shop. One day, a very old man saw me in the shop and wondered why I was not in school. I told him the reason. He offered to help by calling the head teacher of the Hovaguimian-Manougian High School and asking him to accept me without tuition. The next day, I took a city bus to the school and went to the head teacher’s office. However, when I told the head teacher the reason for my visit, he shouted at me that there was no free tuition. I immediately turned around and rushed back to my home.
On the third day, one of my classmates from Sophia Hagopian High School came to inform me that the head teacher had sent him to tell me that I should come back to school and register (登记). When I arrived at school, I told the registrar that I could not pay the tuition. She said that my tuition had been fully paid. I asked the registrar who paid for my tuition so that I can thank him, I was told that the kind person wanted to remain unknown.
I went to my classroom, but kept wondering who was the person that gave me the golden opportunity to continue my education. I went back to the head teacher's office after classes and begged the registrar to tell me the name of the kind person. Last year we were asked to do science experiments. Chemistry, physics and biology are among the choice. Our teacher suggested looking for more ideas in science magazines and books, but I preferred to get the information from the Internet. I often helped my father grow vegetables. So my team decided to study how the weather influenced the vegetable’s growth. We had to make our experiment as exact as possible, so we decided to think about whether the rain made a difference to the vegetable size. Then we began to do our experiment. Our teacher pointed out that a single experiment wouldn’t be enough. He suggested doing the experiment at least three times, but in the end we only had time to do the experiment twice. When we had written up each part of the
growth, we had to design a display for all the experiments. We tried our best to present our information as well as we could. What’s more, we had taken lots of photos, but none of the other teams did that! I learned so many new things.

Notice
Dear fellow students,
A winter hike will be organized by our school to arouse students’ health awareness.
The activity will take place in the Wood Park at 8 am next Saturday. All the students who are interested in it are warmly welcomed. Starting from Season Farm, along Lake Road all the way to the Central Park, the hike will last about 2 hours, during which we can not only build up our body but enjoy the beautiful scenery. Don’t forget to wear a pair of comfortable shoes.
Looking forward to your coming.

参考范文:
A year later, I came to the United States and finally received two Master’s degrees. However, I never forgot the kindness of Ms. Balian. Almost 30 years later, I returned to Beirut and donated a total of $1.5 million to the schools there. While handing the head teacher the donation, I advised him never to keep any student away from the school for lack of money, because one never knows what that student will become in the future if he or she continues receiving education.
After visiting my former high school, I really wanted to see Ms. Balian and thank her for her generosity (大方). Ms. Balian had retired from teaching and lived in an apartment. When I found her place, Ms. Balian was very happy to see me. Sitting next to her, I was finally able to thank her. However, she didn’t want to talk about it. I offered to assist her anyway possible, including financial help or special contributions for her devotion to education, but she refused all offers. Even though, I felt very happy because I was able to express my thanks after all those years.
