I believe that people should stop texting while driving because it not only endangers themselves but others around them. Family members, friends and strangers can be hurt by a simple mistake; their lives can be overturned(倾覆) completely.
Before I participated in the Thumb Wars campaign, I used to put sticky(粘的) notes inside my car to advise any person that was within it not to text while driving. I posted a quote on my social pages that said, “Drive now text later.” The message especially caught my dad’s attention. Since he is on the road about three out of the seven days of the week, we are all worried about his safety. He decided to never use his phone while driving. When it comes to informing other people about the dangers of texting while driving, I usually bring up conversations about driving which then lead me to lecture them on why they shouldn't text while driving. Thumb Wars has given me a new way and opportunity to prevent people from texting while driving.
The era we live in today is all about technology, and there is always the urge to text. Thumb Wars is an inspirational campaign that fights against that. What I was trying to achieve was to not only change my life, but also try to influence the lives of others for the better. I believe that I can make people realize the consequences of texting while driving. They all know that it is not worth it and could change someone's life instantly. I believe that if there were more campaigns like Thumb Wars there would be fewer accidents because more people would be aware of the effects of texting while driving.
All a person needs is inspiration and efforts to avoid texting while driving. Thumb Wars is a good channel which makes it the ideal campaign to help with others and make a difference in this world.

A. it isn’t worth texting while driving

One day while shopping in a small town in southern California, it was my misfortune to be approached by a clerk whose personality conflicted with mine. He seemed most unfriendly and not at all concerned about my intended purchase. I bought nothing, and marched angrily out of the store. My hostility toward that clerk increased with each step.
On the outside, standing by the road, was a dark skinned young man in his early twenties. His expressive brown eyes met and held mine, and in the next instant a beautiful, dazzling smile covered his face. I gave way immediately. The magnetic power of that smile dissolved all bitterness within me, and I found the muscles in my own face happily responding.
“Beautiful day, isn’t it” I remarked, in passing. Then, I turned back. “I really owe you a debt of gratitude,” I said softly. His smile deepened, but he made no attempt to answer. A Mexican woman and two men were standing nearby. The woman stepped forward and eyed me inquiringly. “Sir, but he doesn’t speak English,” she volunteered. “You want I should tell him something ”
At that moment I felt transformed. The young man’s smile had made a big person of me.
“Yes,” my reply was enthusiastic and sincere, “tell him I said ‘Thank you!’”
“Thank you ” The woman seemed slightly puzzled. I gave her arm a friendly pat as I turned to leave. “Just tell him that,” I insisted. “He’ll understand; I am sure!”
Oh, what a smile can do! Although I have never seen that young man again, I shall never forget the lesson he taught me that morning. From that day on, I became smile-conscious, and I practice the art diligently, anywhere and everywhere, with everybody.

B. there’s nothing he wanted in the shop
C. the clerk didn’t speak English
D. the clerk didn’t treat him kindly
9. The underlined word “hostility” in the first paragraph probably means ________.

A. He did not want to smile.

11. The passage tells us that we should ________.

D
In today’s society , language plays a key role in defining gender (性别) by vocabulary, and also their non-verbal (非语言的) vocabulary. Each one of these different types of ways of communicating is obviously different between men and women.
Many different studies show that men tend to talk much more than women. It has also been proven that women tend to speak faster than men; this is due to the fact that women tend to be interrupted more often than men are, and also have the ability to speak more clearly, precisely, and more quickly than men. In one study it was found that women spoke for an average of three minutes describing a painting, as opposed to the thirteen-minute average it took men to describe it.
Men and women also tend to have a very different non-verbal way of communicating, which can also make it very hard for one another to understand what the opposite sex is trying to say. Men’s body language is much more reserved when talking to women. Men tend not to make as much eye contact and they generally stay farther away from women when talking to them. Men avoid other people’s body space while talking, and they also tend to sit back when talking. All of these have given off the impression of disinterest or boredom. Women are by far better listeners and much more enjoyable to talk with and they tend to raise more topics for conversation.
Women also make it clearer whether or not the conversation is going somewhere or just stuck in neutral. After learning about our styles of communicating with each other, I have decided that although men have not quite mastered communicating, what fun would it be if we all spoke the same “language” The little games men and women play with each other while conversing would be lost. The question everyone asks himself or herself after talking with someone of the opposite sex, “I wonder if there’s something there ” would no longer exist.
12. What does the underlined word “this”in Paragraph 2 refer to
A. The differences between men’s and women’s languages.
B. The different speed of men’s and women’s speech.
C. The ability of men’s and women’s spoken language.
D. The non-verbal vocabulary of men and women.
13. In what way do men and women differ according to the third paragraph
A. Speed of understanding.
B. Understanding of speech roles.
C. Politeness of communication.
D. Application of body language.
14. What is the author’s attitude to the differences between men’s and women’s communication
A. Cautious.
B. Favorable.
C. Ambiguous.
D. Skeptical.
15. What is the best title for the text
A. Women , born excellent talkers
B. Men’s and women’s social roles
C. Vocabulary and communication
D. Opposite gender, different language
B 13. D 14. B 15. D
Many different studies show that men tend to talk much more than women. It has also been proven that women tend to speak faster than men; 再根据第二段下文this is due to the fact that women tend to be interrupted more often than men are, and also have the ability to speak more clearly, precisely, and more quickly than men.
Men and women also tend to have a very different non-verbal way of communicating,
After learning about our styles of communicating with each other, I have decided that although men have not quite mastered communicating, what fun would it be if we all spoke the same “language” 可知,作者对男女之间的沟通差异是赞同的。
In today’s society , language plays a key role in defining gender (性别) by vocabulary, and also their non-verbal (非语言的) vocabulary. Each one of these different types of ways of communicating is obviously different between men and women. The question everyone asks himself or herself after talking with someone of the opposite sex, “I wonder if there’s something there ” would no longer exist.

根据上文“If there's a Spanish restaurant in your city, why not greet them with “Hola!” or try ordering in Spanish If that's unavailable where you live, the Internet still provides a lot of places to read the language, or listen to a podcast, or to find an online community where you can communicate with others.(如果你所在的城市有一家西班牙餐馆,为什么不用“Hola!”

一、先行词为不定代词,all, much, something, everything, anything, nothing, none, the one等。例句:Have you got something (that) he wanted
二、先行词被only, any, few, little, no, just, very, one of等词修饰时。例句:You can keep any books that you find.
When they talked about Wuxi, the first that came into my mind is Tai Lake.
She is the most beautiful girl in the world.
The writer and his novel that you have just talked about is really well known .
Yesterday my father caught two fish and put them in a basin of water .Now I can see the two that are still alive .
比如小题6,introduces high-tech hotels作限制性定语从句修饰先行词company,从句缺乏主语,由于先行词有the only修饰,故只用that,不用which。

4. What led to the author’s father’s decision to avoid using phone while driving
A. The notes inside the author’s car.
B. The author’s quote on his social pages.
C. The author’s joining in the Thumb Wars campaign.
