This is a tale of two friends, Jia Haixia and Jia Wenqi-one is blind; the other has no arms. On their own, the two are“disabled(残疾的)". But together, they are a powerful team that has changed part of their village into a rich, green forest.
Their story began in 2000, when Haixia, who was already blind in his right eye, lost his left one after an illness. Wenqi lost his arms in an accident when he was just three. Neither could find a job, so the two decided to team up. They rented some poor land and began to plant trees. In return, the local officials paid them a small fee(费用). Haixia and Wenqi never imagined that they would end up creating an environmental paradise (乐园).
Their forest now has over 10,000 trees, hundreds of birds and many other wild animals. In addition, it saves the village from river flooding during the rainy season. When the friends work together, they focus on their strengths not their disabilities. Their day begins at 7 a.m. when the blind Haixia carries Wenqi across the river to get to their worksite.
Since they cannot afford to buy young trees to plant, the two use branches from existing (现存的) trees. Haixia climbs to the treetop and with Wenqi's direction, selects the perfect branch. He then digs a hole and carefully plants it. Finally Wenqi waters the area.
Though hard-working, the men don't make much money. But as Wenqi puts it,“We stand on our own feet so the fruits of our work taste sweeter."
Neither Haixia nor Wenqi cares about money.Together.hey already have everything they need—a perfect pair of eyes, two strong hands, and the best friendship in the world!
4. Why did Haixia and Wenqi start working together
A. Haixia needed someone to help him.
B. They both needed a way to make money.
C. They wanted to improve the environment.
D. They were required to do so by local officials.
5. Haixia and Wenqi's forest has helped the village by________.
A. stopping floods in the rainy season B. increasing the number of tourists
C. making the villagers richer D. providing more farmland
6. Why do Haixia and Wenqi plant tree branches
A. They are easy to get. B. They do not cost money.
C. They can grow very quickly. D. They are preferred by animals.
7. In Paragraph 5,when Wenqi says “We stand on our own feet, so the fruits of our work taste sweeter.",he means that________.
A. they hope to make the forest even better
B. the fruits from their trees are very sweet
C. they are proud not to depend on others
D. they are able to do any difficult work

【分析】本文为一篇记叙文,讲述了贾海霞和贾文其两位残疾人用树枝植树造林改变乡村风貌的故事。
【详解】1.细节理解题。根据文章第二段关键句“Their story began in 2000, when Haixia, who was already blind in his right eye, lost his left one after an illness. Wenqi lost his arms in an accident when he was just three. Neither could find a job, so the two decided to team up.”(他们的故事开始于2000年,当时已经右眼失明的海霞在一场疾病中失去了左眼。文其三岁时在一次事故中失去了双臂。两人都找不到工作,所以决定合作。)可知,贾海霞和贾文其开始一起工作是因为,他们都需要一个赚钱的方法。故选B项。
2.细节理解题。根据文章第三段关键句“In addition, it saves the village from river flooding during the rainy season. ”(此外,它还能在雨季防止河水泛滥。)可知,海霞和文其的森林帮助村庄在雨季阻止洪水。故选A项。
3.细节理解题。根据文章倒数第三段关键句“Since they cannot afford to buy young trees to plant, the two use branches from existing trees.”(由于买不起小树,两人就用现有的树枝。)可知,海霞和文其使用树枝种植是因为它们不需要花钱。故选B项。
4.句意猜测题。根据文章倒数第二段关键句“But as Wenqi puts it,“We stand on our own feet so the fruits of our work taste sweeter.””(但正如文其所说,“我们靠自己的双脚,这样我们的工作成果才更甜。”)可知,此处“stand on our own feet”表示自力更生,因此,文其想表达的是,他们以不依赖别人而自豪。故选C项。

When the explorers first set foot upon the continent of North America, the skies and lands were alive with an astonishing variety of wildlife. Native Americans had taken care of these precious natural resources wisely. Unfortunately, it took the explorers and the settlers who followed only a few decades to decimate a large part of these resources. Millions of waterfowl ( 水 禽 ) were killed at the hands of market hunters and a handful of overly ambitious sportsmen. Millions of acres of wetlands were dried to feed and house the ever-increasing populations, greatly reducing waterfowl habitat.
In 1934, with the passage of the Migratory Bird Hunting Stamp Act (Act), an increasingly concerned nation took firm action to stop the destruction of migratory ( 迁徙的) waterfowl and the wetlands so vital to their survival. Under this Act, all waterfowl hunters 16 years of age and over must annually purchase and carry a Federal Duck Stamp. The very first Federal Duck Stamp was designed by J.N. “Ding” Darling, a political cartoonist from Des Moines, lowa, who at that time was appointed by President Franklin Roosevelt as Director of the Bureau of Biological Survey. Hunters willingly pay the stamp price to ensure the survival of our natural resources.
About 98 cents of every duck stamp dollar goes directly into the Migratory Bird Conservation Fund to purchase wetlands and wildlife habitat for inclusion into the National Wildlife Refuge System — a fact that ensures this land will be protected and available for all generations to come. Since 1934, better than half a billion dollars has gone into that Fund to purchase more than 5 million acres of habitat. Little wonder the Federal Duck Stamp Program has been called one of the most successful conservation programs ever initiated.
8. What was a cause of the waterfowl population decline in North America
A. Loss of wetlands. B. Popularity of water sports.
C. Pollution of rivers. D. Arrival of other wild animals.
9. What does the underlined word “decimate” mean in the first paragraph
A. Acquire. B. Export.
C. Destroy. D. Distribute.
10. What is a direct result of the Act passed in 1934
A. The stamp price has gone down. B. The migratory birds have flown away.
C. The hunters have stopped hunting. D. The government has collected money.
11. Which of the following is a suitable title for the text
A. The Federal Duck Stamp Story B. The National Wildlife Refuge System
C. The Benefits of Saving Waterfowl D. The History of Migratory Bird Hunting
【答案】8 A 9. C 10. D 11. A

【分析】本文是一篇说明文。本文讲述了美国鸭票的故事,由于美国移民的大量流入,对于农地和住房的急需大量的水禽栖息地被破坏导致美国水禽骤减,因此美国发行了鸭票,狩猎者只有购买了鸭票才能狩猎,而鸭票的部分收入进入到了用于购买水禽栖息地的基金,从而保护了水禽。
【8题详解】
细节理解题。根据第一段“Millions of acres of wetlands were dried to feed and house the ever-increasing populations, greatly reducing waterfowl habitat.”可知,上百万公顷的湿地被抽干用作农地或者修建住房,极大地减少了水禽的栖息地,故可知,栖息地的减少导致了水禽数量的下降,故选A。
【9题详解】
词义猜测题。根据前一句“Native Americans had taken care of these precious natural resources wisely.”可知,北美的土著人把这些珍贵的自然资源保护的很合理,本句中的“Unfortunately”可知,本句与上一句形成了转折,前一句陈述北美土著人做的好的地方,故可知,本句阐述移民者做的不好的地方,即移民者破坏了这些自然资源,故画线词意思是“破坏”。A. Acquire获得;B. Export出口;C. Destroy破坏;D. Distribute分配。故选C。
【10题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段“Since 1934, better than half a billion dollars has gone into that Fund to purchase more than 5 million acres of habitat.”
D
Students at Beijing’ s Yucai High School have to be very careful when playing football on the school’ s field. That’ s because there is a 100- year-old tree growing in the middle of it. And keeping their eye on the ball too much can result in a painful collision.
Building a football field around a tree sounds pretty stupid. But the school had no choice. It’ s reported that there are historic buildings all around Yucai High School, and this was the only space that could be used for a football field. Before starting working on the field, the school did ask to have the tree moved and planted somewhere else. However, they were told that it was hundreds of years old, and that it was a national treasure.
Having it moved and planted somewhere else was too risky—they might damage or kill the tree. So they were 1eft with no choice but to build the field around it.
Interestingly, Yucai High School is built on the grounds of Beijing’s Royal Gardens of the Ming and Qing dynasties. A reporter for the Beijing News believes that the strangely- located tree is the oldest tree in the Chinese capital. That information has not been checked, but other people think the tree is only 100 years old.
Playing a serious game of football on this field cannot be very pleasant. The tree could“catch” the ball and change its direction from time to time. But the students have no choice but to train on the playground with the tree. Luckily, they can play on a different field in competitions with other schools.
12. If students play football on the school field,________.
A. they might run into a tree B. they will have a good chance of winning
C. they will fall down more often D. they can control the ball all the time
13. Why did the school build a football field around a tree
A. Because the tree was as old as the school.
B. Because the school could only use that place.
C. Because students in the school liked the tree.
D. Because the tree had something to do with the city’s history.
14. Why was the school not allowed to move and plant the tree somewhere else
A. Because there was no other place for the tree.
B. Because it may have been dangerous for the tree and it might have died.
C. Because the tree was too big to be moved.
D. Because it was more meaningful to keep the tree where it was.
15. What do we know about the tree
A. It’s the oldest tree in the Chinese capital.
B. It was planted in Ming Dynasty.
C. Some believe it is only one-hundred years old.
D. Students will play on another field to protect it.
【答案】12. A 13. B 14. B 15. C

【分析】这是一篇说明文。主要说明了北京育才中学的足球场是围绕着一颗古树修建的,说明了其原因,介绍了育才中学的一些背景知识以及人们对这棵树的看法。
【12题详解】
细节理解题。根据第一段“Students at Beijing’ s Yucai High School have to be very careful when playing football on the school’ s field. That’ s because there is a 100- year-old tree growing in the middle of it. And keeping their eye on the ball too much can result in a painful collision.(北京育才中学的学生在学校操场上踢足球时必须非常小心。那是因为它中间长着一棵百年老树。过度盯着球会导致和树痛苦的碰撞)”可知,如果学生们在学校操场上踢足球时可能会撞到一棵树上。故选A。
【13题详解】

It’ s reported that there are historic buildings all around Yucai High School, and this was the only space that could be used for a football field.(围着一棵树建足球场听起来很蠢。但学校别无选择。据报道,育才高中周围都是历史建筑,这是唯一可以用作足球场的地方)”可知,学校要围绕一棵树建足球场,因为学校只能使用那个地方。故选B。
【14题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段“Having it moved and planted somewhere else was too risky—they might damage or kill the tree. So they were 1eft with no choice but to build the field around it.(把它移到其他地方种植太危险了——他们可能会损坏或杀死这棵树。所以他们别无选择,只能在它的周围盖一块地)”可知,不允许学校把树移到别的地方去种,是因为这可能对树有危险,它可会死掉。故选B。
【15题详解】
细节理解题。根据倒数第二段中“That information has not been checked, but other people think the tree is only 100 years old.(这个信息还没有被核实,但其他人认为这棵树只有100岁)”可知,有些人认为这棵树只有一百年的历史。故选C。
第二节 七选五(共5小题,每小题2.5 分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选功。
In English, we have a saying that goes, “Use it or lose it.” It means that if you do not continue to use a skill, you might lose the ability to do so.
We can say this about language learning, including learning new words. ____16____
Our reader Banin has a question today. Here is the question: how can I improve my vocabulary
It is a great question! The answer will help many English learners. Here are four things you can do.
Read, read, read
Read a lot! Look for new stories, websites, magazines and books on subjects that you enjoy. While reading, try to guess the meanings of new words from their context. ____17____ If there are television shows or films that you love in English, watch them with English subtitles to learn new words and hear how we say them.
Write about it
But, don’t just read. Write! A great way to practice what you read is to write about it. ____18____ Another thing you can write about is what you did today. If you spent time with a friend or family member, went to an event, had a delicious meal or did something else, write about it!
Learn word forms
____19____ When you learn a new word, learn its other forms. For example, the word “sleepy” is an adjective. But it has noun, verb and adverb forms. You can make a word form chart in a notebook or wireless device and write a sentence example for each form.
____20____
Another powerful memory tool is word association: use your imagination to create mental images linked to new words. For example, when I say “tasty”, what food image do you see in your mind Keep that food image in your mind and always mentally connect it to the word “tasty”. Then, the next time you try to remember the word “tasty”, the mental image will appear.
A. Use word families.
B. Use word association.
C. Here’s another great technique.
D. If you do not use the new words often, you might forget them.
E. Then, you can check the meanings in a paper dictionary or online.
F. For example, if you read a web story about the best fitness apps of 2019, write about it.
G. Writing can be a great way of properly learning the kind of vocabulary you need to describe
your own life and interests.
【答案】16. D 17. E 18. F 19. C 20. B
【解析】
【分析】这是一篇说明文。作者就如何提高词汇量提出了几点有效的方法。
【16题详解】
由上文“We can say this about language learning, including learning new words”可知,这也适用语言学习,包括学习新单词。所以小题1是对上文“Use it or lose it.”在学习新单词中的具体解释。故D选项If you do not use the new words often, you might forget them.(如果你不经常使用这些新单词,你可能会忘记它们)”符合题意。故选D。
【17题详解】
由上文“While reading, try to guess the meanings of new words from their context”可知,阅读时,试着从上下文中猜测生词的含义。既然是猜测的含义,就存在着错或者对,所以小题2处解释通过某种手段来核对含义是错还是对。E 选项Then, you can check the meanings in a paper dictionary or online. (然后,你可以在纸质字典或在线上核对它的意思)”符合题意。故选E。
【18题详解】
由下文“Another thing you can write about is what you did today。If you spent time with a friend or family member, went to an event, had a delicious meal or did something else, write about it”可知,你可以写的另一件事是你今天所做的。“如果你和朋友或家人一起度过一段时间,去参加一个活动,吃一顿美味的饭,或者做点别的事情,就写下来。所以判断出小题3也应该是写某个事情的具体内容。故F选项 For example, if you read a web story about the best fitness apps of 2019, write about it. (例如,如果你读了一篇关于2018年最佳健身应用程序的网络故事,你就可以写下来。)”符合题意。故选F。
【19题详解】
由下文“When you learn a new word, learn its other forms.”可知,当你学习一个新词时,学习它的其它形式。所以小题4是为了介绍“当你学习一个新词时,学习它的其它形式”。 C选项 Here’s another great technique. (这有其它的好的技巧)符合题意。故选C。
【20题详解】
由“Another powerful memory tool is word association..... the mental image will appear.”可知,另一个强大的记忆工具是单词联想……心理形象会出现。整个段落都在讲如何进行单词的联想。小题5为本段的小标题。B选项 Use word association. (使用单词的联想)符合题意。故选B。

C. The Benefits of Saving Waterfowl D. The History of Migratory Bird Hunting

Luckily they can play on a different field in competitions with other schools.
D. If you do not use the new words often you might forget them.
