The man who lived next door came to his house and told his parents about the boy and the stones. "I would like Jack to come to my home so I can show him some things," the man said. Jack's parent, ashamed of and disappointed by their son's behavior agreed to send their son to the neighbor's house. Jack followed the man into his house, through the back door, and out into the yard. There, next to the fence, was a greenhouse. The neighbor led Jack into the greenhouse, and Jack, imagining all manner of punishments, felt he was going straight to hell. What was the man going to do

Some students get so nervous before a test. They do poorly even if they know the material. Sian Beilock, a professor at the University of Chicago in Illinois, has studied these highly anxious test-takers. The students start worrying about the results. And when they worry, it actually uses up attention and memory resources.
Professor Beilock and another researcher, Gerardo Ramirez, have developed a possible solution. Just before an exam, highly anxious test takers spend ten minutes writing about their worries about the test.
The researchers tested the idea on a group of twenty anxious college students. They gave them two short math tests. After the first one, they asked the students to either sit quietly or write about their feelings about the upcoming second test.
Professor Beilock says those who sat quietly scored an average of 12% worse on the second test. But the students who had written about their fears improved their performance by an average of 5%. Next, the researchers used younger students in a biology class. They told them before final exams either to write about their feelings or to think about things unrelated(不相关的)to the test. Professor Beilock says highly anxious students who did the writing got an average grade of B+, compared to a B for those who did not.
"What we showed is that for students who are highly test-anxious, and who'd done our writing intervention(干预), all of a sudden there was no relationship between test anxiety and performance. They were performing just as well as their classmates who don't normally get nervous in these tests."
But what if students do not have a chance to write about their fears immediately before an exam Professor Beilock says students can try it themselves at home or in the library and still improve their performance.
28. What do the students start worrying about before an exam
A. Whether they can pass the exams. B. What other students do during the test.
C. Whether they have remembered the materials. D. What kind of problems they will meet on the test paper.
29. What is the solution developed by researchers
A. Making the students focused on the test.
B. Asking the students to sit quietly before the test.
C. Having the students write about their worries about the test.
D. Asking the students to direct the attention away from the test.
30. In the research, those who thought about things unrelated to the test ______.
A. became less nervous before the test.
B. were better at controlling their feelings.
C. did better than those who wrote about feelings.
D. did worse than those who wrote about feelings.
31. What can be inferred from the last paragraph
A. Writing about our worries before an exam can work a bit.
B. We can only write about our worries right before an exam.
C. The best place to write about our worries is in the test room.
D. It doesn't matter where we write about our worries before an exam.

Health experts have long known that vitamin D is important for healthy bones and teeth. It may also help to protect the body against diseases such as diabetes and cancer. And now, researchers say vitamin D might help fight brain diseases called dementia(痴呆).
Dementia is a brain disease that damages thinking and memory processes, which scientists call "cognitive(认知)abilities" . Dementia is difficult to treat. Taking care of someone who has dementia is extremely demanding. And the disease is very frightening to sufferers. Chris Roberts suffers from dementia. He says the worst part of living with this disease was getting lost while driving. "The worst thing that I found was getting lost in the car, not just forgetting where I was going I wouldn't know where I was." More than 47 million people around the world suffer from dementia. The World Health Organization reports that 60 percent of them live in low-and middle income countries.
We get vitamin D from some foods like nuts, lentils(扁豆)and fatty fish. We also get vitamin D from the sun. But that is not dependable. In some parts of the world, there is not enough sunlight to provide enough vitamin D. Also, sun block prevents the vitamin from entering the body. To add to the problem, the skin's ability to process vitamin D weakens as a person ages.
Researchers at Rutgers University in New Jersey are exploring the relationship between vitamin D and dementia. The team recently measured vitamin D levels and cognitive ability in older people. Nutritional sciences professor Joshua Miller led the team. He said cognitive abilities differed among the study subjects. He said tests showed that about 60 percent of the group were low in vitamin D.
32. Which of the following is true about vitamin D
A. Vitamin D can decrease people's risk of heart diseases.
B. Vitamin D helps the body fight against cancer.
C. Vitamin D is mainly obtained from the sun.
D. The need for Vitamin D decreases as people age.
33. What does the underlined word "demanding" mean in Paragraph 2
A. Boring but rewarding. B. Disturbing and frightening.
C. Disgusting and stressful. D. Hard and tiresome.
34. What does Paragraph 3 mainly talk about
A. How vitamin D affects people's health. B. Whether sunlight can produce vitamin D.
C. Where people get vitamin D. D. Why people's age influences the production of vitamin D.
35. Where can we most probably read the passage
A. In a travel brochure. B. In a literature magazine.
C. In a science journal. D. In a commercial advertisement.

范文1.As the smog frequently hits our city, the importance of protecting environment can never be ignored. Now I appeal to you to start from now.
The first thing we can do is to reduce waste as possible as we can. Buying things more than we can use is not a good habit. Besides, it is necessary to turn off the light when we leave the classroom. Finally, it would be better if we walk or ride to school, which not only reduce the traffic pressure but also reduce the harmful gases.
Let's join our hands and take action immediately in an environmentally friendly way. Only in this way can we make the world a better place to live in.
范文2. When Mrs. Meredith heard of the idea, she thought it was a good one, too. Then Mrs. Meredith searched the Internet and ordered a household popcorn machine. After that, Mrs. Meredith, together with her three children, paid another visit to the family and told them about the popcorn plan. Text 10
Life in the city and the countryside is very different. When John lived in the city, he put his garbage in a big trash can in his building. He didn't care when the cleaners collected the trash, and he never thought about what happened after he threw things away. But when he bought a house outside the city, he discovered that trash was only collected once a week there. (17) (18) This was one of the big differences between living in the city and the countryside. He had one very small trash can, and it wasn't big enough. The countryside would not let him have a bigger one. "If only they would pick up my garbage twice a week," he thought. He started saving all unwanted mail to throw away at the office. When he bought groceries, he sometimes took the food out of its boxes before carrying it home. Now that he knows how much trash he throws away, (19) John doesn't do any needless shopping. (20)
