一、阅读理解
China is going green. In order to reduce air pollution and oil shortages, automobile manufacturers have announced their plans to develop hybrid (混合燃料) vehicles for the Chinese market.
Any vehicle is a hybrid when it combines two or more sources of power.Hybrid cars run off a rechargeable battery and gasoline.Hybrid cars have special engines, which are smaller than traditional gasoline engines. They run at 99 percent of their power when the car is cruising (巡行).A specially designed battery motor provides extra power for running up hills or when extra acceleration (加速度) is needed.
Step into a Prius, and turn on the engine. The first thing you notice is how much quieter it is than a traditional car.At this point, the car's gasoline engine is dormant (休眠的).The electric motor will provide power until the car reaches about 24 km/h.If you stay at a low speed, you are effectively driving an electric car, with no gasoline being used and no waste gas giving off.
The onboard (车载的) computer makes the decision about when to use a gas engine, when to go electric, and when to use a combination of the two.If you go over 24 km/h, when you step on the gas pedal (油门), you are actually telling the computer how fast you want to go.
The electronic motor recharges automatically using a set of batteries. When driving at high speed, the gasoline engine not only powers the car, but also charges the batte ries.Any time you use the brake, the electric motor in the wheels will work like a generator (发电机) and produce electricity to recharge the batteries. As a consequence, the car's batteries will last for around 200,000 miles.

A.there will be more and more green land in China

D.the environment is getting better in China
2.What is the most important feature of hybrid cars
A.They are powered by both a rechargeable battery and gasoline.
B.They have smaller engines than traditional gas ones.
C.They only use 99 percent of their power to run up hills.
D.They are much quieter than traditional cars.
3.We can know from the passage that ________.
A.the gasoline engine charges the batteries as well as powering the car
B.using the brake suggests that the gasoline engine should work
C.the car's batteries will last for around 200,000 miles without being recharged
D.the batteries can be recharged at any time you want
4.The author writes this passage mainly to ________.
A.announce plans to develop hybrid vehicles for the Chinese market
B.let people know how to save their gas when driving a car
C.teach people how to drive a hybrid car
D.introduce a new kind of “green” car

A.The hybrid car is environmental friendly.

C.The hybrid car has been made in mass.
D.The driver can decide which power to use.
二、读写任务
阅读下面短文,然后按照要求写一篇150词左右的英语短文。
A small town in southwest Britain is banning plastic bags in an attempt to help the environment and cut waste—a step that environmentalists believe is a first for Europe.
Shopkeepers in Modbury with a population of 1,500 agreed to stop handing out disposable plastic bags to customers on Saturday. They said paper sacks and cloth carrier bags would be offered instead.
Internationally, laws to discourage the use of plastic bags have been passed in parts of South Africa and Ireland, where governments either tax shoppers who use them or fine companies that hand them out.Bangladesh already bans them, and so do at least 30 remote Alaskan villages.
Modbury, about 225 miles southwest of London, has also declared a bag amnesty (宽限期), allowing local people to hand in plastic bags that have piled up at home. They will be sent for a reveling.
The Modbury ban was the idea of Rebecca Hosking, who saw the effect of bags on mane life while working in the Pacific as a wildlife camerawoman. She said response in the town so far had been “really positive” “Modbury is quite an old fashioned town and a lot of people have wicker baskets to go out shopping anyway,” Hosking told Sky News Television.

二、参考范文:
Environmental Protection Needs A Good Attitude
Modbury, a small town in Britain, is taking mea sures to prevent people from throwing away plastic bags and those people in town including shopkeepers have good attitudes toward this action and support the go vernment.
Our town also has a similar situation. All the fast food restaurants are around our school.Every day, those who have their dinner are always throwing away the food plastic bags and boxes around our school, which does much harm to our health and our environment. In my opinion, we should take some measures to stop the bad behaviors if we want a harmonious society.
Sometimes, some shopkeepers in China ignore our laws and do something harmful to us, which shows that they have no awareness of environmental protection. And, to some extent, in Britian people may have a better attitude toward the public affairs than we do.
